I really hope this isn’t how the expac begins.
Anything but tedious dialogue scenes and the most annoying company of ‘heroes’ please….
That is a stress test, you just stress the servers, nothing else

They basically just used the demo and made it the beta.
As for the story, in the demo they altered the story a bit for demo-ing purposes. Presumably it’s not mandatory upon entry.
Speaking personally… I rather like the dialogue. Well if S2 is anything to go by the first instance or two usually have more talking while the later have more action.

The problem with your argument is that it isn’t beta. It’s a stress test to test the servers. You are there so they can see how the servers do under a full load. Your time is appreciated.
Well good to know someone who got the opportunity to participate in the beta has no appreciation for that exclusive privilege.

Do they ever have that kind of appreciation?
Half the people going to think it’ll be Revenants and Specializations and new WvW map testing 24/7 :P
For what it’s worth, you can get through the story and move on to a few events and the introduction of masteries.

Stress Tests are early versions of a game. Please don’t judge something based on a stress test. In fact, I have tested a lot of games over the years and I’d highly recommend you not judge the release version of the game on the beta tests, either. (For, looking back, I’d have gone into StarCraft with some really unfounded concerns about balance, given that the game was tweaked between beta and launch, as is intended with the beta test process.)
Basically, it’s too early to judge the story so please hold on that until release.

I enjoyed the story. I liked the maps and the fight with the wyvern. I didn’t like the glider as much as I hoped. I couldn’t reach the orbs….qq. I am still not sure about the Revenant. Some things I like, some I don’t. It was fun.
Again, this was a rehash of the demo…so I think people’s expectations are a bit much. I liked the story and I thought the fight at the end was good. Looking forward to what’s next with the Beta!

I enjoyed the entire experience and loved getting a preview! TY!!! I am only hoping gliders will perform better in real game time!

I must say i liked it, first glimpse….
And for a stress test it is supposed to be crowded at a certain point, else there is no stress now is there?

Just want to say the dragon fight was fun, getting to the different area’s lead by the npc story guides easy to follow. Got a little lost after the story though as I saw an area on the overview map that I couldn’t get to. I guess that was a different story mode or something. The weapons given were awesome took a few minutes or two to figure out the combinations and the f1/f2 functions but playing around with them easy to follow & defend or attack the beasties. Was surprised however we came in at level 80. I do hope even though we don’t keep progress and such that we can at least keep the weapons an armor given to our created beta characters. Anyways I had fun thanks for the invite. The new character class will rock.

I just hope revenant gets a few beat downs with the nerf bat before launch lol. Otherwise what I saw looked pretty good overall.

I have tested a lot of games over the years … StarCraft …
I like the way you worked your gamer cred into that post. Well done!
I enjoyed the Story. I thought it was very focused on the Player Character, which to most is very important. It also felt more like it blended with the environment more and what was happening around the Player. Good job. Look forward to seeing more content in the future. Keep up the good work!
I liked the story that we got, but it felt very much like a tiny snippet, not really enough to get a proper idea of what’s going on, other than semi-chaos after the Fleet was destroyed.
It might be too early to judge the story but don’t those lines need to be recorded? I’d be surprised if you brought in voice actors just for the demo and weren’t planning on using those lines in the final product, and I’d be surprised if this was a scenario that didn’t exist at all in the final product (specifically, ‘Braham does something dumb as a pretext to get the player to follow’).
Personal story in the core game didn’t change a whole lot from beta to release, either.
Wow it was Awesome!!! short but Awesome. Loved that Dragon That is what it should be like fighting a fire breathing Drake. Only thing I didn’t like was no ranged weapon for the Rev. Cant wait to buy the full version

So, not to derail the thread, but are you allowed to play other games? Like, is it a conflict of interest or something? Or was this before you worked for A-net? Or are you totally allowed to play anything that suits your fancy?
I am sorry if this is a random question, but it got me rather curious…
:)

They are, of course, allowed to play other games in their own time.
Not only does the company not have the authority to restrict that, but sometimes playing other games gives you good ideas for your own. (Or warns you away from ideas that sound good, but don’t work as planned for that other game.)

Enjoying the first look. Stress test or not it is interesting. Can hardly wait to see more of the area. The flying is a little awkward to figure out for the first few times but has some good possibilities. Back into the testing zone.

Welp, thanks for answering…I know it was a pretty silly question, but still…

Loved the environment design—plenty of variations to work with——-at least on land.
Didn’t try flying like a squirrel—was more afraid of looking like an A-220. s far as the combat went—————-soso. Yes. it’s a Beta, but the foes——mostly—-are pathetic. I ran a Ranger—had NO trouble blowing away anything in my way (using a LB and a SB). Group combat was ok— confusing, scattered, disjointed————just what REAL battles look like——as a combatant, you see ONLY what’s in front of you—-react to threats against YOU, wonder where all of your “friends” are, and worry about where all of your foes are.
I’m going to be REAL interested to see what the final version looks and feels like!!

I didn’t even get to play so you should be happy you at least got the chance to test it.
I think the scenery was beautiful! This is but a tiny sliver of the pie and I look forward to more exploration when HoT comes out. I realize this was a stress test so I know it was just our job to test the servers but it sure has me drooling for more! If this is any indication on what is to come, I’m ready. Mordremoth must die!

Oh, feedback? Thanks. Much unlooked for…
I shall cogitate. The forced story, however, is my greatest fear.
I shall pay regardless for aesthetics and the hope of non-linear flexibility. After all, the story was meant to be ‘personal’.
Cheers.
The brief story we got to play made me really look forward to what they have planned for us.

Cause it was just a stress test I didn’t expect to have fun with it, but actually I had.
I was a bit confused by celestial sets (wasn’t able to immediately understand condi and physical damage and needed to log in with ele to make comparisons) but events were fun, vyvern was great and flying around the zone was astonished good.
the map seemed to be really interesting with the avatar style plants and the idea that deep below there would have been a lot more …
For me well done. I ejoyed my stress test. thank you for have let me do it.

Personally I had a blast though it will take some getting use to the gliding, more than once I plunged towards the jungle floor. The boss fight was fun. When timed right we were able to pull the dragon back down to keep it from taking off, makes me wonder if this will work on other dragons as well like The Shatterer . All and all it was a great experience.
Will there be a stress test on stronghold and wvw?

This is why I skipped the story parts (exited the first one and skipped the green star on map the whole time). I don’t really want to know the story until I can go through it completely.

.. Hammer is ranged. Quite long range. I could stand well outside the wyvern’s fire field and blast away.
I was amused that the 3 skill did however give me the aoe effect at the wyvern’s feet. I mean, I used it and then burst into flames since I’d been standing in fire for the split second of the misty teleport even though my camera kept me back at my position.
As to the story I did pay attention to it since it wasn’t really very spoiler-full. I even decided to take the plunge and play the path of not helping Laranthir, since most of my alts are unlikely to be that mean come live. Lo and behold, that path is disabled for beta, they’re keeping it as a fresh thing to experience in HoT per the text box info for it. (I should have screenied that, I really wasn’t thinking in terms of screens for most of my play, sorry).

For one thing, they did say it was picking up where we left off. So yes I believe it will be thank the six!
Another, don’t take it for granted, what other payers wouldn’t give to be in your spot!?
Enjoy it while you can because it goes quickly and then we will all relish in the HoT
I have to agree with Gaile. I have been on tons of betas. The final version is always better. Stress tests and betas are just glimpses into the basics of the game. The final release always knocks my socks off unless of course its a game that never makes it out of beta…….seen too many of those in the past.

True. & you’d never hear Anet saying “don’t judge the game off this stress test” to someone who says they enjoyed every last bit of the experience.
Also, feedback when the story & game are complete is feedback that cannot change the completed story & game.
I would have loved to test it out, just as I did testing beta when the game first when live….
