Suggestion: Defeated players become Mordrem

I have a suggestion. When players die in maps where there is a heavy concentration of Mordrem, the player character will become “corrupted” of sorts, where his corpse will roam the land obeying the bidding of Mordremoth (similar to other Mordrem creatures). Not all characters, but randomly selected characters will have their likeness roam the map as a corrupted mordrem. The enemies will have names such “Corrupted Hex Mex Tex” or “Corrupted Shia Le Beef”. This will happen randomly and not all players that die will have their likeness be replicated. Lore-wise, what’s happening is that Mordremoth has released parasitic pollen that will grow inside people, and when the person dies or weakened severely, the parasite will grow and take control of the body of the infected person. For Sylvari characters, they will lose control of themselves to the whisper of Mordremoth. This can also be used a mechanic for faction based map wide battles. For example, the pact alliance versus the corrupted horde.
I imagine this will be fairly difficult to code.
Imagine running around as a guild group and death bombing innocent players by jumping off high cliffs on top of them, boom 20 mordrem spawned right on top of you.

@Nate, They could use generic auto-attacking creature AI, but uses the character, armor, and weapon models of the defeated player.
@Fox, Yeah, that could be a problem. A solution would be to have an internal counter along with a trigger rate, and the clone mordrem would be summoned elsewhere, not exactly on the same place the character died.
they could make it happen as they already did it in the past, was pretty fun for sometime not sure if it would work permanent because pvp is not ok for everyone
but maybe they could add it into the map night cycle ?
“the Beta Weekend finale took place on June 10, 11:20pm PST, where the branded minions of Kralkatorrik invaded the Plains of Ashford. If a player was killed by one of the branded, they would turn into one themselves. Subsequently, characters would receive a set of five skills to use and had their affinity changed to hostile, allowing them to attack unaffected characters. Your right, if HoT was a forced pvp map, i would not play it much,if at all. Some do not want pvp forced on them. I left a game for that reason. Areas where you needed to get something accomplished were pvp zones. It was maddening when you just wanted to be left alone to gather your crafting materials. One reason i like this game, I can pvp when i want to.

They’ve already said they’ll never do PvP in open world content, so this wouldn’t work. If I died, I would not want to turn mordrem, I’d want to be able to WP and continue my mission/gameplay.

“Corrupted Shia Le Beef”
But you know jiu-jitsu…
Seriously though, it’s a decent idea, but I’d rather keep PvP to the Mists.
(Also that should be Shia Le Salad D:)

But your leg, it’s caught in a bear trap!
The idea also reminds me of the undead plague event that preceded the launch of Wrath of the Lich King in WoW. I had a blast with it, but I know a lot of other people hated it, too.

I think it could be really fun if it was a temporary thing that only happened every so often, that way if you needed something one the map but didn’t wish to participate you could just go in after the event was over. As for the branded event…..I can’t believe I missed that! T^T

I like the idea that if you die, a cloned corrupted npc version of yourself starts walking the world in the place, but that IS far more fitting of Zaithan than Mordre. (and things like that that make you “feel” the power of the dragon via environment special circumstances)
Mordre is more about mind-kittening with you than corrupting your cadaver. Still, things like an event where he does that kind of things (presents allies like enemys or enemys like allies) changing what you can attack or not would be fun if confined to certain specific special event/battle/place.
Reminds me of a raid mechanic used in EQ, Dead players spawn nasty skeletons to attack. Made some raids initially require near perfection to complete, any dead = wipe.
Love to see that as part of the new challengeing content. Crazy mechanics like these are what makes that stuff fun.
snip
This is different to what he’s asking though. He wants NPCs to spawn that resemble players that recently died.
I mean I think it’s a cool idea, I just think it’s difficult to implement and most people probably won’t even notice.

Yeah it’s more of an atmospheric effect for the game, that there is real danger to the game, and you see this tragedy that your fellow brother in arms is now one of the enemy and you have to kill him to end his misery. But personally it could be a cool mechanic for faction based warfare, I’d like to be the bad guy once in a while. I remember now there was a DLC for Dragon Age: Origins where you play in the point of view of a darkspawn in an alternate version of the game. http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/The_Darkspawn_Chronicles

I could see this in a PvP/Activity map, and it could be a lot of fun. But not in the main game.

Once a player releases, a mordrem spawns from their corpse.
No PvP in PvE. Added survival feel. Promotes group play ( as in helping other players).
I imagine this will be fairly difficult to code.
Warcraft did it with the zombie event years ago.
Yes please. I enjoyed the WoW, SWTOR, and Gw2 bwe events that did this.

They aren’t going to suddenly change the PvE-only philosophy to set up PvP in PvE-only maps.
I could see them doing it in certain maps for limited periods of time.
