I’m constantly getting lost in the HOT zones trying to find vistas and POIs. I would like arrows on screen like Tom Tom that point players in the general direction of waypoints, vistas, and POI whenever to get close to them. These arrows would only point you in the right direction; for example if you get close to a POI that’s above you an arrow appears pointing up. This is much better than the map indications; they’re too small and hard to read.

If I’m angling for a map improvement, I’d want the ability to set my own map markers. The map itself is muddy and insufficient, and it’d actually be a little fun to do my own sort of cartography.

Some example markers I’d like to have:

  • Elevation changes / Tunnel ingress/egress (Up and Down arrows)
  • Dashed lines for underground pathways
  • Jumping Puzzle / Vista start points
  • Map transition points (why are these not marked by default?)
  • Special vendor locations (handy for marking Pact vendors or frequently visited vendors)

With the arrival of HoT we definitely need a more 3D capable map. You can;t tell what level events are.

As for markers, I’d love to have 10 or 12 personal markers that I can place anywhere in the world and attach a very brief note to. Places that you happen across by accident and want to explore at a later date, or good farming spots, or whatever.

Really like your suggestions gentlemen. I’ve changed the title to better reflect these ideas. I’m hoping this thread can be used to provide more map improvement feedback. We definitely need it in HOT. The flat 2D map isn’t helping. It really needs to be a 3D isometrical map.

I wish I could remember the player who had a really awesome prototype of the thing I’m talking about. It only had one style of data point, and it would be visible through terrain (not necessarily a great idea at all times), but it kept a separate log area where one could store their map pins.

It’d be a huge boon for the game as it continues to promote vertical space in its gameplay.

At least add basic indicators of inclination to the roads, and somehow mark when a poi, hp or vista is inside a separate instance.
