Suggestion-New Gemstore Item
I have better idea, waypoints should be account-wide and level locked, so for example you need to be level of area -5 to get to certain waypoint. Rest of objectives like Vistas, skillpoints, points of interrest and hearts should be obviously still character based. Basically world map should be uncovered for entire account, not character because honestly speaking after 3 times done just to have freedom of teleporting, it became too much of a hassle and im crying in corned when my class XYZ have small map uncovered despite being lvl 80 coz of tomes and whatnot…
“He will improve everything that ArenaNet added to infinity and beyond.”
How would this handle people who buy this then change their mind about crafting onr of the old Legendaries or new Legendaries come out and they want to craft one? They can’t make a new toon and get a gift of exploration. Are they forever locked out because of a decision they made and then the situation changed?
ANet may give it to you.

“It would only be available to people with at least one character with 100% map completion”-so you already have 2 gifts from your first character, plus more if you have multiple 100% map completions. Or you could just start a new character and do it again.

Well, they can’t make a new character and do it again to get another gift of exploration if they already bought and used this item.
It may be extremely rare for someone to lock himself out of crafting future Legendaries but rare among a population of an mmo may still be hundreds to thousands of players. While it may be a convenience item for many players it’s possible that ANet won’t want to sell something that permanently locks people out of future content.

Oh, you’re misunderstanding me. The 100% map completion would be for one character only. I’ll edit that in my OP.

This. It would still allow ppl to do map completion and those of us with enough pve exploration under our belt could get to places on our alts without having to run through everything again.

/sign that would be a kitten great feature …
I disagree.
It would thin out the player population.
Maps would be wastelands.
I agree with Machiavell’s waypoint idea.
Alternative idea:
A service that allows you to convert any other heavy armor character to Revenant of the same level. Everything else would stay the same, with trait and skill points (in skills) re-funded.
OP’s problem is addressed by converting an existing Guardian or Warrior to Revenant, while keeping map completion.

Player population shouldn’t be affected by this much ever since the introduction of megaservers. At least in my experience, people who have done map completion multiple times aren’t going to devote as much time to it as newer players, so all it’s doing is removing a small amount of the veteran playerbase from the map.
I doubt they ever add something like this that would allow players to skip the content they created.
Is there any benefit to having 100% map completion other than the rewards you say people wouldn’t get with this?
I don’t see any value in legendaries so have never bothered to get this one.
This would be a little silly if every character got 100% map completion with a brand new character seeing as U need to go and u lock certain traits with a new character but I get what you mean.
Alternatively they could just do a waypoint Unlock at all dungeon and world boss locations but this should be a soul bound change not an account bound change
I personally like doing some map completion it’s a nice break up when I get bored (and I have a character with 100% and 2 with 80%+ im still not that bored)
Map completion is a nice way to level a new character up especially if you have no experience with it.
I do like the idea however but If it is ever done should be soul bound not account bound and should only Unlock waypoints on 1 account per purchase.
i would rage if anet would do sth like this. map completion should be time-consuming
None of these are reasonable options for a variety of reasons. I’m sorry that map completion is such a difficult chore for you and that I can’t be bothered, but suck it up.

For starters: experience, money and karma. Map completion consists of a lot of xp, at least a couple gold and a lot of karma from all the hearts. When you pop your world compete potion do you just instantly get all those things, because that sounds more pay to win than anything else that has ever been on the market. If you do not get all those things, then that is a massive waste of resources for a minor convenience.
The game isn’t intended to be skipped so heavily, just because you’ve done it before. Unlocking every WP in the game all of a sudden is also extensively pay to win, under those circumstances since you no longer have to explore the areas to gain access to them, you can just pop a potion and away you go.
There are any number of other reasons this is bad, but those are good enough.

I said you wouldn’t get any rewards associated with unlocking maps (that includes hearts and Gift of Exploration). You may think it’s a waste of resources, but I like having everything unlocked.
And how is unlocking all waypoints in the game suddenly pay to win? I’m not gaining a stat advantage over nonplaying players, just time advantage on an alt for something that I’ve already done before.

Yes, a new character that can skip content is a character that has an advantage and can level faster and has access to everything faster. That is an advantage. Pay to Win isn’t only related to gear.

By that logic, boosters and the unlimited harvesting tools are also pay to win because they can level faster and have access to all nodes without going to a merchant. Same with revive orbs, utility primers, expresses, Home Portal Stone, or bag/bank expansions; they all give things to a paying player than an unpaying player doesn’t get (except with login rewards).
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but gemstore items are pay for convenience, which is what this item would be.

And wouldn’t you know, some people do actually consider some of those things to be P2W. But no, my logic is specifically about bypassing content in order to level. Pay to Win means that instead of doing content you spent money and suddenly that content is done. Usually that content is some super powerful weapon. Other times it’s just leveling up by using an item. In this case it’s map completion.

Most people define pay to win as a process where you fork over money in order to advance or gain an unfair advantage over other players. But we’ve already done map completion. In some cases, multiple times. THE CONTENT IS ALREADY DONE. We’re in essence transferring over our completion from one character to another.
If we’re done arguing semantics, please give me an alternative idea like some of the other people in this thread have done instead of explaining why your opinion is so much more reasonable than mine.
Pretty sure I already did give an alternative. My alternative was, “Suck it up.”

Pretty sure I already did give an alternative. My alternative was, “Suck it up.”
An alternative that is constructive or helpful, not being a pompous kitten.
An alternative I want is the ability to queue in dungeons anywhere in the world and instantly join a friend anywhere in the world without paying the RNG box.
Guild missions happen randomly everywhere in the world.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
To those saying it’s p2w. A person who does this is actually losing a lot on that char. That char will not be able to get a gift of exploration or get map completion rewards (which is the loss of 12 rares and 12 exotics, black lion keys/transmutation charges and crafting materials from completing the maps) or the karma from doing the hearts if it unlocks all the hearts also. What that char gains is the opening up all the maps and waypoints.
Since that char is giving up a substantial amount it balances out the gain of waypointing.
ANet may give it to you.

I will be the devil’s advocate here, I do like the idea but not getting the gift of exploration makes it pointless, I would gladly pay gems to get 100% world completion and get my gifts of exploration that way, I already did 100% world once and it was the most boring thing I’ve ever done in gw2 ever. I would never do it again EVER ! this idea totally solves my problem.

Then why not put the gift of exploration in the gem shop and sell it directly, if you can buy 100% and get it. It would be the same thing.

Gift of Exploration, materials for zone completion, Transmutation Charges.
There really are too many mechanics in the game directly dependent and linked to zone/world completion to ever make this be a thing.
I don’t give a “constructive” alternative because I do not believe there is one. I believe this is a bad idea that can’t be effectively implemented, shouldn’t be implemented in any way, and most likely will not be implemented.
