Hello ’erryone!

So with the promise of new legendaries coming up with HoT, and most people demanding legendaries that look “serious” to compensate the current silly ones coughpistolshortbowstaff, figured I should share an idea I’ve had for a long time now.

About me:
I’ve played a thief since launch, its the only class I play seriously, I dont even consider my other classes as alts seeing as I just stick to my thief.

Having crafted legendaries and always refrained from making that god-awful shortbow. the whole concept of it could have been applied to something much better, even the Quip is more acceptable with her pretty purple aura

My idea:

To make a “Arachnophobia-like” legendary shortbow!

I’ve always LOVED this shortbow, everything about it, but something’s missing and I feel it should be more epik than it already is!

So here’s the plan:
- with the introduction of the legendary mastery line, obtaining a precursor for this would include the actual exotic Arachnophobia as a crafting “material”;
- this would then “transform” it into a new weapon altogether, precursor to the actual legendary;
- it would then be crafted like any other legendary.

How would it look like?
- pretty much like the current one, with some visual upgrades of course;
- maybe make the spider move? O.o
- when using ground area-of-effect it would place a web-like area on the ground;
- when shooting it would shoot lil’ spiders with a web-trailing to it, as if an arrow;
- other projectiles would be a slightly bigger spider – think cluster bomb.
- as for aura, I can’t really think of anything, but if you were to add foot prints my vote would be on webby-looking things.

The name? Black Widow.

I would love to see a Short Bow with this Theme:

Name: Shooting Star (or if this name is too generic, name it then Star Ocean as a little homage to the awesome Tri Ace RPG Series )

Effect when shooting:

• Turns Arrows from Auto Attacks into Light Rays that look like Shooting Stars
• The Explosion Animation of Cluster Bomb changes into a kind of small Supernova Animation
• The Animation of Infiltrator’s Arrow is changed to a shining flash for the Shadow Step.
  Running Effect: The Character will receive a glittering Aura, that will be like a Trail of tiny shining stars behind you

Precursor: Star Dust or something new

Shooting Star could look lke this for example: (as an inspiration)

Something like this, with shining ends, shooting powerful channeled looking rays of light

And that thing looks like idea taken out of another game that “competes” with this one, shoo it away asap.

Personally I think arachnophobia looks just as “silly” as the dreamer, outside of the projectiles.

I do agree that a darker or nature-ish shortbow would probably be the best idea though, what with the dreamer already fitting the role of shiny/pretty.

When you don’t like competition, you should have said that and shouldnt have used such a generic thread title then, that simply leaves it open for others to add ideas for new legendary shortbows.

When you want just to discuss your own idea only (what is kind of selfish), while doing so, as if other ideas would ruin your thread’s “glory” cough, thats not my fault, when your thread isn’t clear about that … a forum is still for everybody

And no, that inspirational picture isn’t taken from any game at all, its just something what I found from the internet while surfing and googling around for “bow artworks” while searching something, that fits to my description.

The Dreamer is the Fun/Pretty-Role., theres nothing “shiny” about it, unless you see the unicorns as shiny

My Shooting Star/ Star Ocean clearly would take on the role as Shiny/Epic-Role as a Legendary

I don’t think any of the new legendaries should look anything like any weapons we already have… upgraded or not.
Also I really never liked that bow… but thats just opinions and everyone has their own.

I definitely agree that a darker theme would be very nice.

This is a thread crated by me, to discuss my idea. Like you said, this is a forum, everyone is entitled to their ideas and opinions, but thats why EVERYONE can make their OWN thread. Maybe you’re new at this?

Furthermore, that piece of art is depicting a draenei holding Thoridal the Stars Fury, legendary WoW bow. Dont go trying to hide the fact that you knew it.

PS: the dreamer is pretty much the definition of shiny.

I am no WoW game, have never played it and will never play it, so I absolutely don’t know any weapons from this game, nor its races and whatever else… so please no drawing of preemptive accusations … as if everyone and your mum would play and know everything of WoW…

No offense meant, but there are a huge number of threads suggesting new legendaries, so whilst these threads are nice to read – you have to know they’ll never amount to anything.

Anyway, I highly doubt anet will ever make a legendary that is even remotely similar to Arachnophobia, simply because it is already very unique and tbh I think your suggestion isn’t very imaginative as it just builds on an existing skin, and I never really considered Bifrost to be one of the silly skins, just because it has rainbows doesn’t mean it’s silly – it can look very epic and serious with the right combo of armour skins.

And I agree with Orpheal, if you wanted to only discuss YOUR idea, you should have made the thread title a little more specific.

I’m pretty sure John Smith kibosh’d another thread like this which had existing exotic weapons becoming legendaries. I will try to find that forum. To link it here.

I love current shortbow (and staff also). It’s colourfull, it’s projectile effects really are special (like it or not, but that is a fact), and because the projectiles of thief are so special they are really unique (like exploding cluster bomb, or bouncing auto attack, in conjunction with the projectile). Footsteps are very nice also.

I think you are the kind of person that likes incinerator more? Well lemme tell you, that’s the kind of weapon I don’t like. There’s groups on both sides. I’ll be glad for you if there comes another legendary that you like. However posting your opinion as fact, that legendaries like Bifrost are ugly as hell (and not serious – how do you even determine that), stop it. That’s just your opinion.

Why not just make a legendary then reskin it to that spider bow that already exists?

I totally agree. bifrost gives me that celestial glowy kind of feel, like a weapon an angel would use.

So when i read the suggestions, there is no chance of a really serious legendary, right?
I dislike all this candyland-lollipop-style. Vote for a realistic bow, like my favorite in GW1 the naga longbow
Or just give me the skin as a white worthless weapon. So it is easier to catch this nice skin.

there are already basic looking longbow skins. they’re called low level weapons. just salvage them and skin them over your exotic/ascended/legendary if that’s what you’re looking for.
