Took me a while to figure out what my race was. A suggestion: in the character panel where you see your name, level and profession >>> add the race to it?

The race is displayed along with the profession on the character select screen. The same wouldn’t actually fit on the hero panel, though they could simply shift it down or instead show the racial icon along with the profession.

But really, only human and norn females have similar looks.

As Healix said, the race is shown on the character select screen. It’s on the left. Right under the character name along with the level and the profession.

You’ll eventually learn to determine what race your character is by looking at it on screen.
