Whats the best part about salvaging? Getting Ecto, Ore, Wood and Cloth
Whats the worst part about salvaging? Getting Runes and Sigils

Now, i’m not saying runes and sigils are bad, i’m just saying when you are mass salvaging from a world boss run, or dungeon, your inventory can quickly fill up with runes and sigils. You could use a lower quality kit, but then you lose out on the higher chance to get materials from them.

Here are a few options I think we could do:

1) Make Runes and Sigils stowable like any other crafting material
Pro: Easily hit ‘Store All’ to free up inventory space
Con: You might get 250 very fast and run out of storage space

2) Make a Special Salvage kit
Pro: You could make several. One that sacrifices runes and sigil recovery for higher chance to get rare mats, or a kit that sacrifices material recovery for chance to salvage higher quality or quantities of runes and sigils.
Con: You loose recovering one or the other.

Thoughts?

Side Bar: Ascended runes and sigils? Legendary ones even?

I think runes already are pretty usfeful, although mostly the major ones.
Players already make money putting them in the mystic forge.
A better way to store them could be in order though, but is not a top priority imho

Right click → Sell on the trading post →??? → Profit (and inventory emptied)

It’s not like the game showers me with Superior runes/sigils and the major runes and sigils can be sold very easily on the TP.

I always do this… but it takes hours. The ones that will not be sold at TP are too many, and you have to separate them to sell to a trader… The whole process is quite slow and stupid.

Maybe ANet could simply let you sell them on bulk, separating the ones that go to TP and the ones that should sell at NPC vendor automatically?

Or just quickly sell those runs / sigils on TP already…
That’s an extra 4s I would like to keep, so short answer : no
Just use “sell instantly” instead of set a price.

I usually mystic forge them. Given the extremely high number acquired from salvaging, it’s probably one of the best regular uses of the mystic forge’s RNG.

What we started doing is just putting them on a bank page and every once in a while people would run stuff through the forge. Whoever is inclined to do all the forging is generally entitled to keep the results, and leftover 3-sets go back in the bank to help others MF their runes/sigils.

Man, that’s exactly what I do. Always “sell instantly”. Always a bunch that don’t sell because they are underpriced. Always an incredibly long time just sorting things.

The OP’s suggestion is certainly a viable, easy-to-implement one. It would also increase build diversity by encouraging people to store their runes in a whole new holding area. +1

i would like to have a storage location for runes/sigils. They could also make them salvageable.

Hm. What kind of return rate are you getting with the mystic toilet? I did it briefly and got crap, decided it wasnt worth the time.

Not great, obviously, but the trick is volume. The runes and sigils are basically worthless, even to a vendor, so unlike mfing rares there’s not really much of an opportunity cost to chuck ’em in there.

Occasionally you end up with a free dungeon rune (soulbound, which is kinda annoying) or valuable meta rune/sigil you can sell.

It resulted in a pretty large bank bage of exotics after a year or so that I eventually liquidated on the AH for around 240 gold, and a savings on runes for guild members of maybe twice that based on what people kept to use for themselves.

Not great, but in my opinion a better fate for all those spare runes and sigils than the vendor, and if I did the math I probably made more money than vendoring them. On you get used to doing it maybe once a week, with stacks of runes from your entire guild the law of averages starts to kick in and you end up with a little treasure for your time sifting all that thrash.

Oh boy, stop this already.
Adding lv80 runes/ sigils basically = gear treadmill.
Basically all existing lv60 runs/sigils will be inferior and useless, and everyone got to buy the new lv80 runes/ sigils. Really bad idea.

hm. Maybe I’ll consider doing it then. But I swear, it seems like such a time sink. I suppose my gamer ADHD is my own worst enemy in that regard lol

Runes and Sigils need to become Accountbound, once unlocked for your Account.
That way would become all Runes and Sigils alot more worth, because all players would need to have them only once and then would have them forever, with the same easy and better management system, that PvP already has, which should be done the same way like that for PvE and WvW too, where you can quickly change out your runes and sigils, without havign to fear about it, that you will lose them, if you exchange a rune with an other one or a sigil out with an other sigil.

Doing so it would even allow anet to remove that cponcept around minor, major and superior runes and just remove minor and major runes and let the game have only the superior versions under the simple term of Runes and Sigils…

No obsolete differences anymore.
Yes, that would mean naturally a little buff for early players, unless ANet would keep the Level lock for Runes high, in this case it would be a slight change for new characters as they would simple move from the runes over to the real beginner upgrades, that are talismans, seals and marks, Anet would have to reduce for these items just the level locks or remove them, because the low level runes are in most cases half way nothign else than stat boosts anyway.

imo not having the special effects of runes and sigils early in the game wouldn’t make the game much harder, because you would have therefore instead more stats early.

I think the Rune and Sigil System is strongly in need of a rework.
Currently theres is too much of useless runes and sigils or simpyl worthless runes and sigils that are of no use at all.
The market is flood with them and if they would become accountbound, so that each player would need them only once, their worth would rise by alot.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside
