I like the idea in a thematic-y, maybe-some-day sort of way, but the last thing we need is more shouts.

I would love sword off-hand, but the reason Thiefs will probably never get this is because of the possible main-hand dagger/off-hand sword combination, since it would look really odd auto-attacking enemies with a small dagger while you drag a sword behind you in your off-hand.

I really despise all the pirate themed thief equipment in game. If thief specialization incorporates anything pirate, I am outta here!

So things you can ignore but are enjoyed by other players are enough to make you leave? Many of us will have elite specializations that we will never touch, especially if in the future each profession has 3 or more elite specializations. That shouldn’t offend anyone. It’s embracing diversity in playstyles and character themes.

not really. it’s not uncommon in history to have a short/long sword combo, with the short sword used to batter down an enemy’s defences while the long sword is used to deliver the finishing blow.

First of all, usually that is a long sword / dagger combo, not a long sword / short sword combo. Second of all, the long sword is then always used in the main-hand, not in the off-hand.

Swashbucklers aren’t related to pirates in the first place. Also the name itself says which weapon the swashbuckler will get : a buckler! Aka a shield.

This. A short sword would also make more sense than a small dagger that you hold backwards.
But historical use of swords and daggers aside, it would look just not right in game. For the same Reason Warriors will probably never get dagger or pistol main-Hand… Imagine that with a mace in off-hand.

Thief in not real thief – it a swashbuckler from the day he was programmed into GW2.
He aint picking locks, disarming traps and stealing isn’t real stealing its only a waste for skill.

He is a light armoured fighter and probably best or second DPS in game.
Rather call him assassin or swashbuckler but definitely not thief.

As for sword in off-hand – naah, swords are kitten -huge in this game. (scimitar or rapier – yes)

How about no. Steal should remain as is because gameplay wise stealing other peoples gold or items is NOT fun for the person being stolen from. that’s time/effort from that player being taken away for no fault of their own and it leads to the ability for players to screw with other peoples progress and ruin their fun. that’s not fun for anyone EXCEPT the thief.

So no, forever no to this idea. this is exactly why mob/resource tagging is not a thing in GW2.

Thieves probably get staff yeah, and physical skill.
So no monk theme, but rather a martial art style I guess.

I feel like it’ll be less martial-art and more brawler. between the name and the skills, I’m not getting a martial art vibe. (stances/alternate names would fit martial arts better)

Not Swashbuckler, Corsair. It would be more in-line with present lore.

not really. it’s not uncommon in history to have a short/long sword combo, with the short sword used to batter down an enemy’s defences while the long sword is used to deliver the finishing blow.

Wasn’t it the other way around? I’d imagine a longer sword makes for better battering. Of course I haven’t killed anyone with a sword so, more than willing to be wrong.

battering down with the long sword would be considerably more exhausting than with the short sword, while a well-placed blow with the long sword would likely do more damage – making it a better killing blow.

If you add ship battles and all that comes with it, a swashbuckler would be awesome to sail the many seas that could exist in GW2! Maybe not in the jungle, but a fairly large next expansion? :P
