There’s currently so many threads and topics just complaining and not many actually showing really cool discovery’s. Sure so of your opinions may be valid however stuff about how content “feels to grindy” which is ludicrous because its only the second day. Truly Anet has done a fabulous job with the release and the actual content so take a step back and appreciate what there is to be appreciated and you’ll have a much more fun time…
Edit: Im not trying to say that the grind about it is an invalid point and even one that I also felt what I was trying to say and see I have failed was that it is only first day and that there may not be things that are completed day one. Sorry to miss say

It’s not your place to tell people that their opinion is invalid.

Different people have a different threshold for when something becomes a grind. For you it doesn’t happen in a day. But for others it may only be a few hours. Or they’re thinking that when they get to their 5th alt it will be a grind and are speaking up now.

Im not trying to say that anybody opinion is invalid what I was trying to say is to take a step back and view something that it is in fact first day and that things that are grindy might take some time.

You’re right, TC. We’re all wrong. Every one of us who has been critical has done so in err. ArenaNet has clearly done an outstanding job with this expansion, and we should all be very grateful. In fact, I’m going to go buy a few extra copies of HoT to show my appreciate right now. Thank you, TC, for opening my eyes to just how wrong my opinion was. You truly are a saint.

Then your phrasing was off as I read it as you saying the opinions that it was grindy were invalid.

And for skills and traits for a supposedly not any more powerful than any other spec line, it really shouldn’t feel grindy to complete it for the average player in just two days.

Again if that is grindy to you then what is not grindy to you, you don’t have to farm the same events over and over again and you don’t have to stay in verdent brink.

Take a step back to realize that even on day 1, people are already realizing the game for what it is. That’s bad news from a development perspective. Your point comes with its own built in counterargument, you know. If on day 1 we should accept that it’s too early to call it grind, then conversely, on day 1 it should certainly not feel like grind, and unfortunately, to many of us, it does. Take another step back to realize what it’d be like to unlock something as basic as a spec on multiple alts. Now take another step back when you realize that even with all this grind, you are still expected to find a large group of people that happen to want to kill the champion mob that is required in order for you to get 10 measly little hero points out of a pool of 400 in order to unlock the elite spec for a single character.

Why call it grind? You can just level up mastery playing regularly, you can literally level most needed mastery for exploration without repeating the same event twice. Grind is doing the same content over and over, this is NOT GRIND.

A point that I did not even wright was that after all this grind people may start to complain that they are sad because there is no content to do.

I know, I didn’t. I got 8/11 of the hero points there, then left because the rest looked like they were gated behind masteries (I later found out that 4 of them were supposed to be, it was a mesmer specific thing that made one of them possible to get without it), rushed through each of the other maps to farm hero points to unlock the chronomancer spec that fixes the awful zoo playstyle of the base mesmer, and was so burned out at the end that I wanted nothing more to do with the new maps.

The elite spec grind is an issue because it’s a major playstyle change, you have people that love the playstyle of the elite spec, while hating the playstyle of the base class, meaning, until they do get it, it’s going to be unenjoyable.

It’s less of an issue for revenant, tempest, warrior, and daredevil, as the base classes play very similarly to the elite spec.

But mesmer vs chronomancer = Never using the class mechanic vs always using it
Necromancer vs reaper = Ranged class mechanic vs melee class mechanic
Engineer vs Scrapper = Ranged class vs Melee class
Ranger vs Druid = Little healing vs All healing
Guardian vs Dragonhunter = Melee with a lackluster ranged option vs completely focused on ranged combat.

Someone that wants to go druid because they love healing probably isn’t going to like having to complete half the maps + the entire core tyria as a non-healer in order to unlock the healer.

That doesn’t really solve the problem, though. At most they’ll only be able to do it again for a few hours or however it took them to feel the grind the first time before they feel it again.

And different people have different thresholds for grind. For me, for whatever reason Lornar’s Pass and Dredgehaunt Cliffs are a grind to map complete (I’m a completionist when it comes to map completion). It takes about 15 minutes in those maps and I’m ready to bail. Even though there’s different stuff to do on those maps. Other maps I’m fine on (except areas with Ascalonian ghosts, I don’t like fighting them for some reason).

So just because there are different things to do on the map or to progress towards getting the elite spec fully unlocked, doesn’t mean the process can’t begin to feel grindy within a few hours for some.
