Tempest Teaser
Warhorn confirmed?
Crystal Desert
Looks Like my Ele is about to take the back seat. It’ll be replaced by my Sylvari Spookyn Spector Revenant.
They had the chance to do a dope sword spec(Idk I just had a feeling sword ele could add some fun animations and etc) but any way maybe it’ll be better than what it seems to [me].
just confirming an off hand weapon doesnt come even close to revealing everything the specialization will be capable of.
I’m skeptical about warhorn as well, as I’ve yet to see it be a really useful part of a main spec for any profession and I’m not fond of pretty much any of the warhorn skins. Still kicking myself for not getting the Aetherized bugle back when that was available, as I am so sick of the unrelenting big fat curved horn shapes.
But ANet has fairly consistently done interesting things with weapons that I would never have dreamed up myself, so I’ll wait for the stream on Friday to settle my initial impressions. After all, other than the name, Dragonhunter looked far cooler to me after its demo than before.
It’s Anet’s way of saying, listen up younglings you’ve played the Elemental ebough now it’s time for the Revenant. It was simpler for them to give it the warhorn instead of nerfing it.

Not, simply pulling your leg, roflmao.
boo…..not a fan of adding another offhand to a class that desperately needs a true melee mainhand.
well, hopefully the skills and new mechanic are cool (like mesmer, which initially disappointed me when its weapon was announced as something other than the main hand it needs)

Warhorn confirmed?
Looks like it.
Really disappointed in it now. Nothing it does will take me away from staff (since I dislike the only other two main hand weapons). Sword might have had the potential, but warhorn has no chance.
Please give us a keyring…

oh hah ok then. :P
I’m actually really intrigued by this Warhorn, since it seems those that get 2-handed weapons (guardian, Necro) get existing Profession mechanics edited, and those that get an off-hand (Mesmer) get an extra skill (f5 shatter). I wonder how that would apply to Elementalist? a Fifth attunement sounds a bit crazy lol.

Unlikely to be a 5th attunement, not only is there not really a 5th element to use for it, but would also mean they would have to design new skills for every single existing ele weapon. And beside that the f5 on chronomancer aint exactly a 5th shatter either, but a different kind of class skill
The Mists is the fifth element?
focus on Dungeons, Fractals and Raiding.
As a proud owner of Howler and the fact that my Ele, who is my most used alt class is a voluptuous Norn, I couldn’t be happier about tempest getting warhorn confirmed!
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
I feel like all the negative feedback to the warhorn is unwarranted. We dint know anything about the spec. And unlike any other class to get an offhand, we will be getting skills for every attument , well already be getting more skills then any other class would with a mainhand, Idk. I’m not worried about it.

Probably similarly to the guardian. They got changed virtues with the original effect still there. So elementalists could have changed attunements without changing the weapon skills.

Since Ele is getting warhorn….are they going to fix Howler finally??

No one is complaining about the spec, they are complaining about the warhorn.
It is just objectively the worst outcome.
offhand dagger = best offensive/utility offhand in the game
offhand focus = best defensive/utility offhand in the game
mainhand dagger = meh melee offense
mainhand scepter = slow and clumsy offense
staff = best weapon by far
Ele’s have 2 amazing offhands with pretty poorly designed main hands. People are disappointed in warhorn because it is a substitute for something we don’t need substituted. This will just drive more people to staff, and certainly won’t make anyone switch from staff because our main hand weapon choices have not gotten any better.
I’m actually really excited about the warhorn! I hope it will finally give the weapon an avenue to take the front seat, even if it is an offhand.
I am a little disappointed I still won’t be able to use some of the sword skins that would totally be awesome for an ele, but psyched nonetheless.
Also, totally sick preview art!
mainhand dagger = meh melee offense
If this is true, why do I see a lot of Elementalists owning a lot of people with D/D?
I think Warhorn fits way better than sword.
Why? Because the power of destruction of the warhorn is way bigger than a simple sword.
Yes,I know they imbue the sword with magic etc,but a powerful blow with the warhorn can be devasting, and the warhorn can create a “new element” (?) maybe? like Wind…
And wind can form storms, fire becomes way more devasting with wind, like a fire tornado etc…
Swords would have more “meh” spells/skills imo,now with warhorn you can be way more creative when creating spells because they dont need to create new animations or something. Or scrap a skill because creating an animation for it with a sword would be too problematic.
How Elementalists would cast a storm with a sword, for example?
Now with warhorn…they can just use the regular warhorn animation (blowing) and bam! the spell is cast.
mainhand dagger = meh melee offense
If this is true, why do I see a lot of Elementalists owning a lot of people with D/D?
Because offhand dagger is awesome.
Those giant fire rings, 8k hits, electric ball of death, KB, KD, bleed, and heal, are all from the dagger offhand.
It’s just if you take the offhand you also need to equip a mainhand weapon. No one in their right mind would equip scepter in PvP, and staff takes up both hands, thus you have a lot of D/D ele’s
The only few skills that main hand ele’s really need are dragons breath (burn stacking) and lightning whip (air auto) for sustain damage while they are waiting for their dagger offhands to recharge.
Isn’t it an off hand so that awesome offhand plus awesome mainhand wouldn’t become so powerful that it makes the other main handers sort of pointless? This way warhorn needs to be awesome enough to compete with already powerful options, while not making the class even more powerful than it already was.

When you have terrible options you go for the least terrible one.
Scepter sucks.
Staff while good has its own problem but it is two handed.
D/ suck less than scepter, therefore it wins.

plasma fits into this.
What if the ability/change of the tempest makes it so you can split attunements, one for mh and one for oh? though what do to do with skills…

I think that’s a really cool idea! I actually was thinking maybe warhorn would let people summon all 4 elements at once or something (hay Avatar hay).
I get that people are very concerned with warhorn being an offhand weapon that doesn’t seem to have a lot of potential, but I think ANet did a fairly good job implementing shield (which I would argue is less compelling than warhorn as a weapon) as an offhand elite spec for mesmer. They’ve been pretty innovative with the elite specs so far, and I’m sure they have something as interesting planned for ele as well!
What if the ability/change of the tempest makes it so you can split attunements, one for mh and one for oh? though what do to do with skills…
That seems extremely and overly complicated, I do not see that happening EVER.
So is the warhorn going to be offhand or mainhand?
ANet: “We saw how the elementalist was lacking in the support category, so for their elite specialization, we’ve decided to address this. The warhorn will bring much needed healing and condition cleanses to the elementalist which should help with their sustain. Meanwhile, since the thief is lacking in the melee weapon department, we’ve decided to address this by making their elite specialization a melee staff. This should help compliment the thief’s multitude of 1200 range weapons and lack of a solid melee option.”
Honestly, the only way I could’ve made it more troll myself is if the elementalist warhorn isn’t an offhand. Surprise! You’ll be bludgeoning your opponents to death with a glorified mainhand club that’s skinned like a warhorn. I’m far too amused to be kitten.

Why would it have to be melee?
It could be main hand, and the skills could summon swirling PBAoE storms.

What would be the autoattack in each attunement?

Sounds about right, classy Anet.

They could change the Ele so that the tempest gives you attunement “toolbelt” skills like the engi and each one causes some OP storm spell based on attunement.
So is the warhorn going to be offhand or mainhand?
it’s offhand, notice how it is in the ele’s left hand which is the offhand hand.
Notice her hand (main hand) and where it is.. Still could be sword.
The tempest needs a new Warhorn skin that looks like s whistle.
So they can whistle up a storm. :-)
Now just need them to implement a Legendary warhorn named Storm Caller. Take note of that “legendary” word, ArenaNet. Legendary Weapons should be legendary because of lore; not because they have a ton of particle effects or shoots unicorns.
I’m skeptical about warhorn as well, as I’ve yet to see it be a really useful part of a main spec…
Warrior
Yay, we’re back to specialization reveals. I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for the return to spec showings.
Also quite excited to see what they can do with Ele. I actually find the warhorn fitting and intruiging.

The Dhuumfire thread
I’m kind of interested mostly only so far in what a kind of name abomination this Elite Spec will end up with for the German localized game version … a class specialization named after a weather effect rolleyes
Don’t really know, whats more ridiculous so far ..this name or Dragonhunter.
If it ends up as “Sturmrufer”, then the “joke” will be just perfect …
My main problem with warhorn is that the skins are not interesting and there is basically no animation for it. The skills could be cool, for all we know.

I think you are WAY over-extrapolating from a sample size of “those aren’t patterns yet”
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
To be fair, it’s not just extrapolation. There was a dev comment along the lines of those elites who get a one hand weapon (and thus less new skills than a two hander offers) get something else to compensate. Thus far the something else has been a mechanics change to the F-skills.
They’ve also said they’re looking for overall balance not slavish adherence to patterns that will lock them down and make Especs even harder to produce in the future. “Something else” is just as likely to be a 2% up-tic in damage coefficient to make one of those handful of weapon skills really sweet.
