I have seen some people posting about the feasibility of adding the Tengu to the current Personal Story line and cant help but make the observation that they already make an appearance in the Concordia (Lvl 70) step.
I guess my question is how does this one appearance of an otherwise elusive race factor into HoT and the Personal Story? Also their introduction as a playable race in the existing personal story line?

This topic has been beaten to death, but in short, Tengu will almost certainly have nothing to do with HoT; however, the plausability as a playable race is that, they had some work done initially that would have allowed them to be playable, they have a rich history, and they’re just awesome. As for the personal story, the problem is they’d have to write out dialogue for the tengu which seems like lot of work for something so trivial. A side note, they’re having issues with primordus, so when that dragon is focused, then we’ll more likely have them playable.

Colin ruled out a new race for now in an interview with Eurogamer, citing it wouldnt add enough from a gameplay perspective at this time. They are concentrating on newer and more challenging content and developing the professions at this time.

An expansion with Primordus would seem more fitting, altho im not convinced we will ever see a new race added considering the resource investment involved versus potential gains.

Time will tell!

A new race doesnt add much to the game tbh.

There are only 3 story arcs (and technically the chapter 5, but it has a lot of overlap between races) that depend on your race, everything else is basically the same.

They will never add a new race.

ArenaNet failed massively in how they built the story. Adding different voice actors per race plus a lot of voiced content (most of it in poor-looking cutscenes) means that, if they were to add a new race, they would have to record a massive amount of dialogue for it to be able to play through the current storyline. Considering how voice actors are expensive, that’s not going to happen any time soon.

Plus, ArenaNet already said that they won’t fix Charr and Asura armor because few players play as them. So don’t expect to see anything that doesn’t look a lot like human beings any time soon.

As others have said, when we finally focus on Primordus, then I hope that the Tengu finally get off their feathery butts and join the fight.

I know many people say (including Anet) that adding a new race doesn’t add anything to the game and it’s purely superficial. While that may be true for a lot of people, I personally don’t agree with it at all. The characters I make are more than just tools to use in a game. I make characters with life: stories, personalities, etc. I get way into the characters I make, so to me, a new race adds so much more to the game.

But… you know, I guess I’m in the minority for that category.

There is no race currently in GW2 that I would like to play aside from the ones already available, I would like something new instead of Tengu…

Tengu actually are vulnerable to the jungle dragon. Its vines can burrow under their walls just like the destroyers, and the vines could probably drill a hole into the wall if Mordremoth them wanted to. They could be tied into this expansion in a good number of creative ways. Still, I don’t see Anet giving us that much.
