Hey Anet,

With all the negative rage going on around the net and game, I wanted to take time out and say, Thank you. Colin was so excited to show/tell us all the hard work you all did on the Guild Halls and announce the pre-order last night. When I opened the page to see the cost, I knew right away I’d buy the $100 bundle as it’s worth it to me. I know there’s a lot of rage/negative feedback right now and that’s understandable but do know, there are people out there like me who will buy the expansion (and have already) with no problem.

Thanks for all your hard work and I can’t wait to play HoT!

The sad thing is that all the ragers will too. I look at the price/fact that a brand new person can buy it and have both games as a good thing. They didn’t give us a release date. Obviously they need money to help finish it. I want it, you want it, the ragers want it. Just give them the money they need to finish it up. It’s not like they have income from subscriptions or anything like that. They thrive off the few addicts that spend thousands of dollars in gems to be honest. Also it could help sales of the game. Meaning they have a bigger budget and we get better content!

50$ for the basic version are too much. Everyone is free to do what they want with his money..and you are free to spend 100$ on that.
But counting on the numbers of complainings…be careful mates..if things go on this way… you all risk to play Hot alone^^

I wanted to buy Hot but I’ m too disappointed and for now I won’ t buy it.

This is true. They will still buy it as more and more information comes out and their friends/guild mates get it. So, this will all blow over. =]

@Darkness – I highly doubt anyone will play HoT alone. People will buy the expac so, I’m not worried at all to be honest. Just a bunch of talk right now but in the end the people who really love the game will buy it eventually.

Anet Should give ppl with multiple accounts a free xpac. I played for two years and They MADE me get a 2nd account. I had no choice. I helped Trahearne save Tyria, I ended Scarlet’s reign of terror and I sent Trahearne along with all the useless npcs into the jungle as payback. Yes I’m entitled to free stuff! Oh wait… All of that was free…. Nevermind here’s my $100.

Just let me die so I can waypoint out this mess

For some people, forking out $100 may not be much. For others, it could mean half a month’s wage. For some people used with WoW or other greedy companies, this may seem normal. For others, used with ANet’s old business (with literally tons of content/addon and quality) this is kittening frustrating.

Do you know that GW1 used to have just as many char slots as it had classes? Or that each addon on came with roughly the same play time worth of content (either full continent or a plethora of instances?) and that the only exp that didn’t feature new classes was actually cheaper at launch than the rest of its predecessors?

Good for you being able to afford it without actually caring what you’re tossing the money on, and how much value you’re getting in return. Your kind of behavior encourages these types of cheats from the publishers and the continued decrease in overall game quality in favor of game bling-blings.

As a base player since GW2 beta and even since GW1 way back I get it. Gotta keep in mind it’s a business. Businesses gotta make the money right? Besides what makes something worth one thing to one person and nothing to someone else is pretty arbitrary.

I think it’s worth the 50$ not because of the hype, but because I’ve legitimately been excited with the new elite specs, the rev, the new content, and the fact Anet has actually done something rather than filler! I expect this isn’t enough justification to spend 50$ on some 1’s and 0’s and for something they’ve already spent 50$, but for me what else would I spend this 50$ on? Other indy games that go on sale in steam that will take up memory? 50 red box movies? 50 1-dollar toys? 10 weapon skins they’d release?

So, for me the ability to re-experience a game I genuinely enjoy I would pay 50$ and then some to support it, and play. -I’m entitled to my opinion.

Not invalidating feelings, but if someone feels the ~30$ dollars difference loss and the feeling of utter ‘betrayal’ then they’re entitled to their feelings and nothing more. I’ll see y’all in HoT Beta!

Thank you Anet!

I certainly hope you aren’t implying anything here, since it would be an Appeal to Tradition. It’s a logical fallacy where one argues ‘well its always been that way so…’. I’m not saying that ANet should or shouldn’t stick with what they did previously, I’m just pointing out that saying what they did do is in no way an argument or evidence for what they will or should do.

So glad to see a positive post! It’s amazing to see how people can be so upset at such a small detail that they would let it ruin the expansion (for them) that we’ve waited for so long to get. In reality, if ANET decides they want to give the core game to new players for free, good on them. Starting an MMO years after its release is daunting to many players because they know that they’ll be nooby in an established world and there will be a learning curve that the vets will be impatient with. Besides, the amount of content already in GW2 is staggeringly awesome and giving that for free is incredibly generous.

If people are mad because some people are getting a better deal, they must be forgetting that the 10$ a new player might be saving with this purchase does not equal the value of having 3 years spent enjoying one of the greatest games I’ve ever played.

Stop letting one, inconsequential detail spoil the awesomeness of this huge expansion. I and many others expected a 60$ price tag on the expansion, and the core version is even cheaper than that. Just buy your copy and enjoy the game! The developers shouldn’t have to spend so much time and energy creating a wonderful experience just to have their forums explode with negativity because they exercised their prerogative to give the game free to new players.

What would Dave Ramsey say?

I admit having to google that name. I’m not that familiar neither with the person nor with in-depth financial analysis.

I do think of this mess from different points of view:

  1. If your life-long favorite car manufacturer would start selling you higher price vehicles that break every 200 km, you’d probably revisit the other options. (The difference in game quality between GW1 and GW2 is huge and doesn’t really favor the latter, if you ignore the visuals)
  2. if any merchant would sell you a product which proves to be different than advertised, you’d probably sue the bugger for misleading advertisment (certainly doing it in US, I think – not sure about the rest of the world)
  3. lastly, one thinks perceives value different based on one’s income. For some, the latest mini on gem store is a must have, for others is a waste of cash best saved for something more important. It’s easier to fork out $50 or $100 when such a sum is rougly equal to what you’d spend on a night out (seeing how all you drink ends in a less mystic toilet).

Agree. Colin’s face was magic, he and the video shown on E3 were enough for me to buy the expansion…

In fact, I’m going to buy ultimate edition as soon as I can afford it

Obviously, it is not a solid argument. It is, however, the quality of their products that lead me to buy the new instalment of GW and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.
As such, I’d say they do have (had) a strong reputation which is getting trampled into the dust by this shaddy and deceiving new marketing strategy.

They went famous for high quality gaming experience and rich content in every single of the packs they’ve come out with. I do believe they should (‘ve) stick to that.
For me, now, they’re famous for dropping a silly mini or an outfit while blatantly ignoring or postponing fixing broken – or poorly made – elements their game.

Lastly, people defending the current HoT situation are doing precisely that “it’s common thing that all addons are at same price…” (completely disregarding content).
It’s like saying “it doesn’t matter what the hamburger’s made of, as long as it’s sold as a hamburger, ’cause everyone knows the hamburger price is $xx”.

Thank you Anet!

Ill be buying ultimate as soon as i get payed to be honest. This game has given me almost 4000 hours of play time. The only game ive played more than that? GW1, with WoT sitting close behind GW2 for play time. So yes ill be buying this!

The pvp community reminds me of what Obi-kittenenobi describes Mos Eisley as from star wars.
