Arena net , thank you for including weapon swapping on the revenant. This was needed

Although you weren’t required to use the weapon designed around a specific legend, it felt like using say, the staff on shiro. Or vise versa, took away from the feeling that legends role was supposed to fill. Adding weapon swapping to match the ability to channel two legends was the last thing I needed to be hyped for this class.
It always felt to me that no weapon swapping made the class feel even more locked into a particular build based off the weapon/legend you were channeling .

So yeah. Thank you lots !!!

As a community. We’ve had some good things to complain about over the Years, and we’ve provided nearly as much feedback as possible. And to see arenanet handle our complaints and recommendations in such a mature and fair way is amazing to see.

I was upset for a while at the state of the game . But it’s good to see the game is in good hands .

There’s a couple of threads about it in the Revenant forum, along with Roy’s full list of current changes stickied at the top (mostly speeding things up and upping the damage).

Maybe I have issues with OCD— but adding weapon swap is the stupidest thing they could have done. Revenant was SUPPOSED to match Elementalist and Engineer, to be the heavy armor profession without weapon swap. You wanted more versatility, and to not be locked into certain skills in any way? Go about it a different way— like attunements, or kits, or, you know, channelling different Champions. But weapon swap? Now there’s no balance. 3 Light, 3 Medium, 2 Heavy.. oh wait, here’s another heavy, good there’s balance. 1 ‘no weapon swap’ light, 1 ‘no weapon swap’ medium, 0 ‘no weapon swap’ heavy… oh wait, here’s one, oh wait, never mind, we don’t like consistency.

That’s not true. We could have tried to drink out of a cup with a leak in the bottom, we could have tied our shoelaces together and gone jogging, we even could have put peas in guacamole. It’s all about perspective.

(Also, if you really want to talk about it, check out the link in my previous post in this thread.)

Don’t worry, it’s in the first minute or so, literally the first thing revealed. You didn’t miss any build up. (In fact, I missed it in the video, it took Rubi and Roy discussing it and Twitch chat erupting for me to know what they’d shown. To me it just looked like the rev sheathing its weapons).

Actually the stupidest thing they could do is either of things you’ve suggested. They would create an enormous amount more work for a product that’s timely delivery is already looking dubious and create an enormous balance headache.
I mean yes, the symmetry would be nice, but as it was the class just didn’t work, this is the simplest solution to make it somewhat playable.

well now when revenant have weapon swap time to add more weapons.

A main/off hand ranged dagger justa thought

Edit
To bad you painted yourself into a corner and the only melee 2her would be greatsword… cant really see longbow or shortbow working as melee weapons

Lol I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to spoil anything*!!!! It was just such exciting news, literally restored all hype to see arena net take there community so seriously.

I had my doubts going into this expansion, and even though some of the news has been a tad too slow, it’s refreshing to see them take everything we say to heart like that.

I mean we literally just finished the beta weekend ( I didn’t personally participate) and all the complaints of low dps staff, ect. Where already answered.

If it’s taking them this long to release info because they are putting this much care Into all of there desicions, then by all means take your time!

This , ontop of the pre purchase community address, and and the overall quality it looks like this content is being created with , I can honestly say again that I’m excited about this expansion

I feel like this kind of care they are putting into it is going to make for a well polished addition to gw2

THAT is a relief that they get weapon-swap! I was about to say; staff may not work with all the legends, exception of Ventari obviously.

I’d be really curious to see what the actual reasoning was behind adding weapon swap. I’ve heard numerous arguments for it, I wonder which ones convinced the devs to add it.

I’m not going to complain now that they’ve added weapon swap, but I never agreed with everyone claiming it was needed.

Edit: Watched the PoI, which mostly answered my question.

For anyone just reading this… basically they were considering it already before the previous revenant beta thingy (can’t call it a BWE when the man himself said it isn’t really one of those :P) and the feedback just helped push it along…

first of all learn to respect people that work.

Elementalist has no weaponswap because attunements already give them 20 consecutive skills, 35 if you add conjured weapons.
Engineers have toolbelt and kits, that are so many you can’t even equip all of them.

Revenant has nothing to compensate for that. Legend swap barely compensates for the lack of customization on utility skills.

Weaponswap was asked a lot and needed a lot. Many original suggestions were inferior to it, like swapping weapon with legend. It was pretty stupid, since legendswap should be feequent to stunbreak or get energy, while weaponswap is moved by things like range or cooldowns.

I don’t know. The whole revenant class is looking less and less interesting the more information they release. Haven’t played it yet so I guess we’ll see but with other classes, even though one some weapon options are really viable, each class seems like it has more than 4 possible play styles. For example, My warrior likes pairing a hammer with physical utilities and getting confusion stacks from interrupts is his sole reason for being. Other warriors could pick up the hammer or the physical utilities and play differently, which is making the revenant seem more and more boring by comparison. While the rev need weapon swap, it sort of just confirms that there is so obviously only one way to play each legends they had to add weapon swap in to save the whole class. Combined with the kitten show that has been their pre-order pricing and added character slot controversy and the other really disappointing choices they have made* it looks like whether I’m still with Guild Wars after HoT will come down almost entirely to whether the Rev elite spec can modify the classes mechanics enough to breath some life into it or whether the Warrior elite spec is worth $50.

*YES, I AM TALKING ABOUT RICOCHET, AND YES I THINK IT’S WORTH TYPING IN ALL CAPS TO EMPHASIZE WHAT A COLOSSALLY STUPID kitten JOB THAT WAS!

Yeah, this player has the weirdest take on balance. It doesn’t unbalance the game for the revenant to get weapon swap, because…soldiers are not a faction…! It just feels like a band-aid to mask the ultimate weakness in the class design. They need to flesh out each legend so there is more synergy options across weapons and different ways play within the defined roles by exploiting added utility skills (each legend has got to have more than 5 obviously or this class has a total of 1 meaningful decision to make!!!). For example, a tank like Jalis might do some mean ranged damage if he could swap out 1 skill and exploit a trait so that gets tons of damage when bleeding a taunted foe or something…..I don’t know…haven’t played it…..

A profession with 10 weapon skills, two heals, six utility skills and two elites at any time.

Sounds like a good idea to me. What’s next? A second action bar for all other professions?
