The Original Digital Deluxe Edition & HoT?
Veteran player that prepurchase expansion got character slot. Obvious that over now. Also when core game start free play core game owner got free outfit. You should have the outfit but can not prepruchase now so no character slot. Also free play have many restriction you can see here.
People who owned GW2 before the free version came out don’t get anything extra on top of what they already had, but what they do get is an account without the huge list of restrictions that are placed on free accounts. Free accounts can only have 2 character slots, no map chat, barely any access to the TP, and a whole load of other restrictions.
Which version of the base game you have doesn’t affect what you’ll get with HoT. Just like with the base game there are 3 different versions with different prices and you can choose which one you want, but buying the Digital Deluxe Edition the first time around won’t get you anything extra, all the bonuses for that came with it.

ahh okay, thanks.

Here it comes again. The game became F2P after more than 3 years of the time you could play. F2P is not really FREE, as you have limited character slots, inventory slots, chatting options, and Trading post limitations too.
Your deluxe edition already gave you deluxe stuff, it was some guild influence points, PVP rank points, ability to use 2-week long personal banker on every newly created character and the elite skill Mistfire Wolf. There is no reason for ArenaNet to give you anything more when you buy HoT.
From the site posted there are a lot of limitations for the free account. It’s basically a teaser for people to try. $50 to upgrade is not a lot.
The greatest part of the limitations is the gem store. They can convert gems to gold, but can’t convert gold to gems. So if they want something from the gem store you got to pay.
Also something to consider is the original game had a lot of sales. I bought it around Christmas a few years back for $10. After getting almost 2 years of enjoyment it was probably the best $10 I ever spent and didn’t hesitate to spend another $50.
