The Story in this game changed over the last years so much and Heart of Thorns changed alot in the Sylvari Lore by now, that you have to question yourself what a kind of role will this race play further in this game after HoT???
The Sylvari Race got introduced as the hive mentality race that is kind of based on a class mentality also startin with two hand full of “Firstborns” over which stands just only the Mother Tree (Avatar), followed directly by thousands over thousands of more or less meaningless “Secondborns” which received now over the last two seasons a bit more importancy in the Slvyfri lore by introducing some Sylvari like Ceara or Canach.
If there wouldnt exist still the mysterious Malyck and the somewhere existing “other” Mother (or Father Tree, who knows) which aren#t linked to the overall Sylvari Dream, I think Anet basically has shot already way too early all their lore gun powder all out to keep this race over a long time interesting.
From a lore standpoint I think it would have been much better to keep Mordremoth back and they should get sent us out first against an other Elder Dragon like Kralkatorrik or Jormag to give the Sylvari race and their lore more space to develop, before they got already nearly axed and evilized as Dragon Minions, while explaining nearly over the last years nothing at all about this races lore very much and leaving alot of open questions after hot even still open that are now not as miuch as interesting anymore at all to be cleared after the happenings of HoT, because alot of things became now with hot very unrelevant to completely uninteresting….
Like for example what will happen now with the Nightmare Court, now where their leader and mental paragon is dead, ending up as just one of Modremoths mind corrupted puppets as like many others or just simpler, being turned into a part of the Modrem Guard simpy, whats the reason why Modremoth kidnapped so many of the Nightmare courst, because they were alot easier to corrupt than normal Sylvari that were protected by the Pale Tree’s Dream and guided by Ventaris Teachings.
now where Modremoth is defeated, what kind of a role does even stil lthe existance of malyck and a possible other tree play even at all anymore? It just became completely obsolete to get to know about these things in my opinion, because it won’t have any affection anymore on the Sylvari race and their lore or can partake on the outcome of the overall Sylvari Lore in regard of Mordremoth.
I personally would have 100% loved to see Malyck becoming for example part of the group nstead of Canach, because this would have allowed it ANet to implement alot of unexplained Sylvari lore into the story instead of retconning Canach into the group, only because a kind of small fanbase of players wanted to see him become part of the group, where I think his role as “mercenary housepet” that works for Countess Anise in the backgrounds would have fitted alot better to expand on that, than to forcefully push him into the HoT Story just to make a few players happy that he got pushed into the story group where he essentially has in my opinion no place, other than being a las tboss option spot filler, where I think Malyck would have fitted either alot better as 3rd option or instead Marjory as she is the only NPOC that i think should have been used rightfully at the end as 3rd option, to give her the option to fight with you to get revenge for her killed sister Belinda.
But for now, lets take a look on the First Class of the Sylvari Race… not much of them are left over..
The Sylvari Race started with originally 12 Firstborn, so does their lore say, from which are so far only 10 known, because 2 does Anet willingly keep as it seems as a secret so far for whyever reasons.
From the 10 that we know, are by now 4 DEAD already.
Riannoc, Wynne, Faolain, Trahearne.
Three of them were basically by now in the whole game’s story the most important and famous Sylvari from the whole race..with the most famous and known one being one of the still 6 alive ones being Caithe, which is in herself just a mystery as she always acts and does things what she wants with no clear structure behind her actings, last time seen by her stealing the Dragon Egg without getting to know from her what she actually wants to do with it, other then hearing at the end from her, that it would have been her “Wyld Hunt” to bring it to somewhere – to where? no clues, she doesn’t tell..could have been Tarir, could have been a completely different place and therefore that we take her her job away, she takes it in my opinion way too easy, once she sees that the Egg is safe in Tarir and out of range for her… nobody knows what she will do next….everything again like usual with her shrouded in mystery.
Then we have there stilln the absolute so far other unimportant Firstborns that never played at all over the last years any big role at all.
Anet could have made them pretty much Secondborns, it wouldn’t have made a matter at all.
Dagonet… nothing but a boring Scholar who does just only diplomacy work for Kryta.
He never was anything special worth about it to make some story about him…
Kahedins.. in regard of lore, he would have been basically one of the most important Firstborn, because he helped to build up the Sylvari Hometown from scratch, hes basically the Firstborn, who knows it structurewise the best and he has also alot to to with helping newborn Sylvari with their dreams. But the only time where we basically get to see him is at our personal story as a sylvari …
Malomedies… other than knowing, that he was the first Sylvari that made contact with the Asura and ended up as a guinea pig for them barely surviving that, theres absolutely nothing interesting about him …
Niamh – shes the main protector of the sylvari home toem and leader of the guards there… I am personalyl very disappointe,d that she basically played absolutely No ROLE while all the attack on the mother avatar happened in season two and that she also played absolutely no role at all in HoT … very very disappointign from a story tellign and lorte standpoint seen …
Aife – another diplomat sylvari that basicalyl never plaed a big role at all for the whole race other than beign just another kind of unimportant firstborn placeholder.
And then there are still the two unknown Firstborns that Anet never showed us so far, even not in the memories from Caithe, where they practically ALL should have been together.. but these two either got forgotten by Anet or where somewhere on vacation >.>.
I really hope Season 3 will start soon and will clear up alot of this Sylvari Story Tellign and Less Mess, that Heart of Thorns left behind and brings the Slyvari race per se again in a spot, where it stays an interestign race, that hans’t totally lost now all its shine after HoT, only because anet sems to have fired off already mostly all of their storytelling gunpowder for this race after the defeat or Mordremoth, puttign this races now into a situation, where they are free, but in regard of ther inner structure heavily now destroyed and there beign still some thigns to clear up about malyck and the possible second tree and what all of this could mean for the whole race lore if there actually would be a second one that we can find and explore and talk with like with the Mother Tree Avatar to get to know more of this races from a potential completely different point of view and what in general ANet is planning to do now with all of the leaderless Nightmare Court? Will they all remain hostile, or will they get the insight, that their path was wrong and reunite with the other Sylvari and turn normal again and that trying to turn their only protection from a greater evil into a nightmare was from begin on never the right path???
Thats hopefully stuff, that anet will clear up soon with Season 3.
HoT created more open questions, than it answered basically at its end. This needs to be looked at.
