Everybody knows that! But what has he got to do with GW2?

The tonic and mini was added as a homage shortly after China launched. That was their only function
He has nothing o do with GW2 or its lore.
Also, you’d be surprised how many people are unaware of Monkey Magic/Journey to the West. In the half dozen threads popping up about the mini and tonic, many of the posters knew nothing of either. It was quite a nice extra by the devs, despite falling outside of the lore.

Thank you for the link! That was a very interesting read and I am glad the devs included it. We all need to learn a bit more about each other.
Wherever he came from, it’s probably the same place this guy here came from.
My guess is somewhere from another world through the Mists. Sun Wukong was no stranger to travel between worlds.

He has as much to do with GW2 as:
-Golden Pig mini
-Red Panda mini
-Ram mini
-Ram backpiece
-Baseball cap
-etc. etc. etc.
He was added for the Chinese launch to give something for their culture

Fair enough. The baseball cap really broke any suspension of disbelief I had about this game on day 1. It was very disappointing.

There are tonics that turn you into a tree, I don’t see how a baseball cap breaks your immersion.

Seriously, people really do get arbitrary about what upsets their “immersion,” while simultaneously taking for granted all kinds of equally silly nonsense. Other players are going to do silly things with their characters, put them in funny clothes, give them humorous names, etc. It happens in every MMO.
If a main NPC character wore the ball cap in a story scene, that would be one thing. But as an optional gem store piece for players to wear for fun? Not worth getting in a twist about.
