There is no secret that the marketing direction of this game is mostly digital.
By now it is clear that you only benefit from anything if you buying a code online and linking it permanently to your account (benefit mostly only for new players for the standart edition, though)

There won`t be a collectors edition (much to my dismay) and going by the FAQ, there might be simple boxed editions of the expansion in the near future, but that will only be the standart edition.
Going by their core game release this will be an utter disapointment, because it won`t have any usually boxed extras, meaning there might be a disk and a code in it and that`s it. Nothing for flavour.

Another problem people don`t know what they can get or are only interested in a fraction of the whole product.
The WvW people might only want the elite specializations, as well as the PvP guys.
So far the only ones who benefit from everything is the PvE crowd.

Selling the game to these people is subsequently not that easy.

If you are allready pushing digital, why don`t you go the package deal?
Cut the expansion in pieces and sell things seperately. With an upgrade function.

They have the technology as they have shown with the Living Story 2. This package automaticly sees what you have and calculates the difference.

Why not sell a package Elite-Specializations + Guild Hall access
Why not sell each Elite Spezialisation seperately?
Sell Access to the new Personal Story
And of course the whole bundle with kitten discount more or less.

This is not a new system. MOBAS use it for quite some time allready and I think I saw several other MMO using it as well.

If they actually pushing full digital (and I hate it) simply because they want to maximize their earnings, they should go all out and embrace it, so everyone can get their custom menu.

It’s not a bad solution, but I doubt the bookahs at ANet will do it. They don’t seem to have the sense to see a reasonable solution when it’s offered.

I’d like it if I could buy every expansion feature separately, even at prices that would add up to more than the $50 expansion price if I bought them all.

Because I wouldn’t buy them all, not nearly all.
