The exp grind and new P2W
You can buy 2 xp boosters for 1 laurel. How is that P2W?
When those with alts need those laurels to equip ASScended trinkets that should never have been made overpowered in the first place.
Nah.. even with 250%+ buster (birhday buster+kill-streak buster+EX buster) it’s VERY slow. Especially on those painfull maps.
Popped a birthday booster, killed a champion troll, barely saw the bar move.
I can usually play about 4-5 hours a week because of my eclectic work schedule, I gave up a days overtime work to play this today, and Im not even level 3.
Its to much. Its demoralising and depressing and I dont think I can keep my interest for the 8 months it’ll take to see mastery completion or 4-5 months for a specialisation.
So long and thanks for all the fish, GW2.
I think the exp for masteries goes to fast. I expected it to be much more slower. At first I was using boosters, but now I don’t just to avoid rushing the content. I totally enjoy the new maps and events – they are super fun. Some of my friends thou find these new maps very hard and confusing, but only those who have low skills and play rarely. After I helped them to understand the new mechanics and etc. the problem was gone however. So maybe OP should get some help from good players as a solution?
I dont find any of the events that hard, I was soloing group events. Its just taking way too long to level up. I dont have the time required to powerlevel. It’ll take me 7-8 months of repetitive play at my rate of play.
Just gave it another try. Saw 4 events, 1 got completed while I was on my way to it, I took part in the 2nd, the 3rd required updrafts to get to it the the 4th was a Champion and I was the only person there.
I spend 10-15 minutes walking around LOOKING for an event then find I cant get to it because its gated behind a skill.
Do events people tell me. I CANT GET TO ANY kittenING EVENTS. I need to get to events to get masteries to get to kittening events.
In the meantime the limited number of boosters I have and am told I need to gain EXP faster are tick tick ticking away without being of any use to me.
Some of my old guildmates have asked me if HoT is worth buying. I have told them no.

Tier one masteries take about 500k xp each.
The level-up requirement for a level 80 is something like 250k, and you get a fixed percentage of that number per event. So, basically, 1 Mastery Rank takes about as much effort to earn as two levels.
Even on only a few hours each week, I can’t say I see this being too much, even without boosters.
The content that’s provided for you to ‘grind’ for your masteries is meant to be fun in and of itself. If it’s really not to your taste, that’s one thing, but you do need to be able to enjoy it for what it is. If you just regard it as a chore that you have to get done before you can move on to the ‘actual fun’, you’ll just mindkitten yourself into hating everything.
I don’t recall having too much trouble finding events to do — sometimes I’d see a map and think “nope, this is a non-starter”, but even then, I don’t think I’ve ever actually been in the jungle and felt like I had no way of amusing myself there.

Don’t all masteries take the same amount of xp?
I ask because their manifesto was based on no curve because they felt a fixed levelling journey was more fun.

The manifesto represents what they want to do, and what they thought they could do with an open-world MMO in 2010. While I presume that much of what they want to do has changed, I would kind of hope that, five years on, their views have evolved a bit.
The higher-tier masteries with higher MP costs also require more experience. As far as I’m aware, it’s strictly in proportion to the actual number of mastery points a given mastery will cost, so, e.g., Glider Basics costs the equivalent of two level-ups, and Updraft Use costs the equivalent of four.

It scales up with higher ranks in masteries.
Rank 1 is 500k, rank 2 is 1million, rank 3 is 1,7milion.
I havent seen what rank 4 looks like, but you get the picture.
I really like the new maps and I find myself smiling at the new difficulty – even though I am dying myself through the personal story – but I feel so demotivated to play this AddOn and it’s not even a week since release… I don’t feel any progression in doing events it just feels… worthless the effort. I don’t want all masteries done in a week, but I also don’t want to play this game in no-life-mode to see any progression on the exp-bar at all… Even Bosses are tied to in-depth masteries (Axemaster, etc)…
I…
Um…
Yeah…
I dun screwed up.
Seems that because of the Mastery window open button at the end of the EXP bar, I thought the bar was not completing when in fact I had completed that EXP level some time previous.
After being guided to the Mastery window, I had earned enough EXP to get to level 5 Mastery, and master Updrafts and Bouncing Mushroom use…
Levelling is still slow but not anywhere near as bad as I thought it was.

Hey we all do stuff like that. It’s a new environment so we are all learning how things are and how they work
I just feel like an idiot… I was screaming at the screen because from my perspective, my bar was stuck and I wasnt getting EXP…

If it makes you feel better, I was disappointed because I didn’t know you had to put your elite specialization in the last trait bar. I thought you had to unlock ALL the traits and stuff before you could use it…
Then I read the patch notes…facepalmed….became a reaper haha.
