I just returned after being away for over a year. I noticed there is an expansion….I watched couple youtube videos….

I have couple questions (this is not a rant)

1) why this expansion is as expensive as the original game even though the original game has way more content?
2) would this be routinely? Like when a new expansion is released, will I get the basic game and previous expansions?

3) will future expansions make previos expansions less useful? For instance, in other games, players sometimes ignore earlier expansions and just get the latest ones since the latest make the other ones obsolete gear wise?.

I like the game but with that value I can buy way better full games (rather than rebuying plus an expansion).

IMO the expansion should cost about $25……I would better buy a new different new game rather than this expansion.

Was the expansion being sold alone before and I just missed it?

1) The core game started at $60, HoT is $50. Prices in the gaming industry are driven by a lot of forces, and amount of content is not always one of them. Factors such as costs to produce, business health, competitor pricing and what-the-market-will-bear all play larger roles in setting a price than amount of content. If you got core at $50, then you waited a bit for the price to come down. If you wait on HoT, the price will also come down. I paid a good bit less than retail about three weeks ago.

2) They’ve announced that future expansions will always include everything up to that price for the price of the XPac, including prior expansions.

3) This is irrelevant as you will get the prior XPacs at no added cost anyway. Will they add new gear tiers? So far, they did not in HoT, and that seems to be the current direction.

4) HoT has included core and was the same price from the moment the price was revealed until now. You did not miss anything.

5) Fwiw, access to living world updates between now and whenever the next expansion hits require that you have HoT. If those matter to you, factor that into the costs.

Just randomly answering stuff.

GW2’s Expansion is not like other MMO’s expansion, they didn’t raised the max level and made everything before completely useless (cough*FF14,WoW*cough)

The core game is completely free to play, they kinda include GW2 in HoT’s price, sort of.

For 2) we have no idea yet.

50$ is good for the expansion. Take in mind that they don’t charge the main game anymore, they don’t charge for a subs (those mega server ain’t gonna pay themselves) and its their first expansion in 3 years, its not like they’re abusing with 1 expansion every year.

Thx for the reply. Well, I guess I wait until price is about $25 or next expansion comes in.

While $25 or $50 is not big deal to me. I don’t think this is worth $50. I think is a good deal for a new player biut not for me.

I don’t give money away to game makers anymore. They have to earn it.

Thx again.

Directly from ArenaNet, it’ll likely never happen. They may drop the price by $10-20, but once season 3 is over, they could easily bundle it and raise the price back to $50.

From other retailers however, HoT was on sale for around $22 on Amazon (FR) a little over a week ago. Other retailers commonly have it on sale for around 20-30%.

If you quit playing the game a year ago because there was not enough mindless grind, then you might actually like the HoT expansion.

$50 for two expansions should be OK for me.

I will add it on my wish list on amazon in case it comes on sale again as you mentioned.

I had to buy it on sale price for $41 USD because Canadian currency conversion is really bad at the moment.

As others have stated dont forget that you will have to buy or find someone with all the living world season 3 releases to be able to see that story arc/ get items hidden behind the achievements if you buy aswell
