The game needs a content bridge before HoT

LA reborn was nice, but its nothing more than a glorified overhaul of lions arch, the game needs a new “pve” content to bridge the gap, something between now and HoT launch.
My proposal?
Return to Southsun Cove.
Synopsis:
After LA is rebuilt, we return to Southsun to find it developed too, the Karka have been “mostly” repelled but something isnt quite right.
The lava pit where the ancient karka lays has sunk inwards and a gaping hole has formed, leading to a new underground expansion of Southsun that leads to a new Karka Matriach World Boss.
Features:
Revamped Southsun, most of the region is now secure from karka attacks, barring the north western region which is now heavily infested with Karka defending their Matriach.
A new world event requires coordinated zergs to fight off waves of Karka and unlock access to the Matriach chambers, leading to one of the toughest fights between now and HoT.
Mini Features: The new Boss HP Bar and Breaking mechanics.
Impliamenting the new mechanics for the HoT bosses into open world via this would be a good way to add new stuff while streamlining HoT’s development.
That building thats been under construction near Southsun beach for a year now? A Landing strip for Airships!
Southsun is sort of a psudo Lions Arch 2.0 while not as secure or safe, its become a Consortium Vista, giving the Consortium a place to proudly call home. (Home also costs 10G per calendar month to maintain by any resident wishing to live under consortium residential legal fees, no repayments after the first fee!)
The Consortium welcomes Tyria’s residents back to its paradise vista, an island truly safe and sound, for all.

Thoughts?

I think I’d rather the Devs not take time out to develop something that would likely only entertain players the same amount of time it would push back the release of Heart of Thorns, leaving us exactly where we started.
But, good luck.

It’s a balance.
If it’s what it take to make the expansion perfect, I can tolerate a content drought of the level that Mists of Pandaria had, simply because this game has no monthly fee so I don’t have “expectation of content” when I have no monthly fee.
At the same time they probably don’t want the game to bleed it’s entire population and have them “forget” about Heart of Thorn.
If we’re going to have more than 6 months before the expansion, I think they would need some content to keep people interested. Even if it pushes the release by a couple of weeks, on half-a-year wait that doesn’t make a huge difference to me.
I would agree if it were an MMO other than GW2.
Progression is not vertical so its hardly as dependent on new content rolling out.
I mean I love new things, but it really isn’t necessary. Everything is relevant at all times, so unless you’ve spent a crazy amount of time on the game, there are bound to be things to achieve.
And if not, you can always take a break. The joy of being free to play is that you can take a break without being punished.
I’d just like the expansion to have more of that content honestly.

If I thought the devs could develop content at the same time as making an expansion, like every other mmo in existence, then I would say SURE!
However it is increasingly obvious that Anet is overworked, understaffed, and well behind schedule. They have pretty much everyone working on expansion related things and have abandoned normal development all together. So I find the addition of new content to be highly unlikely unless it directly relates to HoT release (WvW zone, trait changes, etc)
We need an event in the game now! It’s summer and it’s been 7 months since we had a game event (dragon ball)!! We need something! The game is sooooooo dead right now!
They could have re-released previous content and nobody would have minded. Like they could do a Wintersday and July thing, which would both give people something to do and give people who missed it a chance at the star of gratitude. They could also do a bunch of other stuff like SAB, Halloween, take the daily activities off their rotation so we can at least do the ones we enjoy every day, re-release dragon ball, lots of filler content to pick from. But instead we’ve gone over half a year without a single piece of content. Not encouraging for newer players coming in for the expansion when they notice there is no content coming out at all.

With regards to SAB, I’m pretty sure they said they couldn’t do it because of changes to the game engine.

Why would new players need ‘new’ content? They have the whole base game and all content to enjoy. It’s the vets that have ‘been there, done that’, that are without something (new) to do.

Oh I hope they manage to do it for S3 though, this content drought… although I must say that’s perhaps a bit hyperbolic, many MMOs have droughts before expansions hit.

I’d rather they keep working on HoT and get it shipped on time than incur delays. Thanks, but no thanks.
Also, they may have only already in the works or slotted for release.
One thing to keep in mind is that While ANet does the development work and has a lot of pull in marketing and release date decisions, NCSoft still has the final word. With Beta event weekends now happening and the game being available for pre-order, this is a good indication that the release date is soon. While I don’t expect that they will make it in time for the three year anniversary, I also would not be surprised if they did.

I rather they work on balance right now. Conditions are running rampant, Interrupt mesmers are pretty OP and Rampage Warriors are borderline broken. How about taking care of those headaches first?

See, balance to me isnt as valueable as content, if people have issues with balance, that can be addressed in a patch with multiple fixes.
But content is a well, once it dries up, people get bored.
At the very least they need to release “something” even if it lasts literally less than a months worth of hype as some kind of “minor” bridge gap between now and HoT.
LA reborn was nice, but its not enough.
We need something to “do” for at least 2 weeks.
That is probably coming. Bridge gaps tend to be shortly before an expansion release.
As for balance issues, expect them to get tuned as things go on. Also, keep in mind that PvP Balance =/= PvE balance and so on. What balances one, or improves it, can severely unbalance the other, as the condition tuning shows.

Different people, different engagements. I’d prefer more narrative content than say another hamster wheel to climb on. While other primarily wvw or pvp and thus mechanics are important. But to each their own.

That’s a pretty bad excuse. Why would you develop content that breaks other content?

It wasn’t content that broke other content though.
It was adjustments to the physics engine. Something to do with the movements all needing changing.

I don’t know what’s going on in the background, so whether or not it’s a bad excuse – or even an excuse at all; could be a legit reason for all we know – I haven’t the slightest.

Clearly not a software developer :P

10000000% this.

This is why they want us all to preorder, so we don’t leave bored before HoT. I didn’t fall for it, and I left already due to the trait patch after weeks of testing it out: it does not make me look forward to what they have in store in the exp at all. Not to mention I don’t see the point as I primarily play wvw and spvp anyway. I’ll just wait until they balance this again (hint: not going to happen until after HoT, of that I’m sure).
I miss Wintersday in July

I miss Wintersday in July
Fortunately we all can hop onto GW for that in a little over a week.
It’s true people want SAB they’ve always wanted SAB to return and I continue to check up on this game in case they decide to release SAB. Not so much these days as I log in for a min to gain mats to chuck down the legendary toilet and call it a day.
It doesn’t have to be SAB we had other events such as Lab Cliffs, Dragon bash, Crown Pavilion, and so forth and yet they won’t add any of them. All the temporary content exists as it was implemented and yes LA has changed and dashes too but much of the old content needs either LA or Jumping to complete. There emphasis on temporary content continues to be the albatross for this game.
It’s obvious there releasing content for only those HOT preorders and those people can’t even keep the loot the find. I don’t preorder anything without a release date and not from this company after the SAB coin debacle either.
Open the first world of SAB again, in memory of Satoru Iwata’s death.
While “Moto” is the main NPC, being an easter egg of Miyamoto – Satoru Iwata have done so much for games and the gaming history, and more for Nintendo.
SAB being heavily inspired by these old games Nintendo made in the past.
