Hello friends! After thinking for a bit, I believe that the success of the new Stronghold PvP game type may depend on the ability to create templates. Templates, to me, is the ability to set up your character armor, weapons, traits, and skills exactly how you want and save this build to quickly swap between other templates.

Hugh and Grouch said that Stronghold will bring in great opportunity for unique and off meta builds. This is made possible by the different aspects that bring the game type together.

The reason for templates is very apparent. Stronghold will be part of the regular queue and this means that people will have very little time to switch their builds, once they find out the map will be stronghold. Most of us would simply use our default Conquest builds and this can really affect the distinguished opportunities that Stronghold presents.

Has there been any word on Templates being included in HoT?

What do the rest of you think?

I think templates would be of extreme benefit to the entire community, not just stronghold or even pvp in general. I’ve been wanting templates since day one. Hopping between general pve, dungeons, WvW, and various other things, there may be times you’d rather not be using the build you have. For myself though, that’s easier said than done. I don’t remember builds at all, and even if I did remember them changing all your traits and so on is annoying. So I just stick with one build for PvE/WvW/dungeons in total, and then one build for pvp. Templates were extremely useful for saving, sharing, and creating builds and I don’t like not having them.

Exactly.
Templates are a big part of any game mode that requires build diversity. Anet made the right move in removing those dumb retrait gem store items and allowing re-traiting anywhere, now it’s time to take the next obvious step.
Many older, worse games have this feature, so I’m sure anet will get to this. Eventually.

There is no word on it. We’re just hoping for it.

Honestly, I’m amazed they’re not already in the game. Even just in regular boring old PvE it can be a challenge to juggle stuff around.

I took a whopping five seconds to switch weapons in preparation for a particular boss and copped attitude from one player for the rest of the dungeon. I imagine his poor little head would have exploded if I’d taken the time to optimally re-trait as well.

Not that would be a dreadful shame if his actually did explode but I’m sure someone would miss him.

I never realized how much templates would help until I started GW1 this past August. Even if it were just traits, that would be a massive help when switching things around for WvW roaming vs. “zerging”, different dungeons, and of course different game modes in sPvP.

I’m also big on the idea of templates. In fact, I think it would add more enjoyment to the solo pvp experience, among all the other benefits to templates (soloing champions, heart missions, wvw, dungeons, fractals, etc. All modes where players will or would change builds to adapt to a situation), where as a solo player in pvp, it is often advantageous to modify your build before a game to your teammates and enemies. But switching my traits and amulet, etc during the 1.5 minute warm up before the game is difficult.

I really hope they implement this feature, I’d even sacrifice my unborn baby…. Well maybe not, but it would be fun.
