Thief Elite Spec
Just curious – everyone is assuming this is the art for the elite specialization. There were two pictures that are not currently in use for the thief:

AND
http://i.imgur.com/rNAy4Jb.pngOne would be for the new trait line and the other the accompanying new skill type. I’m not certain which is which because we’re missing important context.
I hope that ANet does not introduce a new class with a melee staff AND add staff as the specialization weapon to two other existing classes although its quite possible they will.
The second image is currently being used by Thief. It’s the Deadly Arts specialisation line.
I recognized and found the others on my thief but just missed that one.
Kits could be a very cool specialization for the thief.
Acrobatics trait line. Then sell it back
to them for $50. Brilliant! – ghost of P.T. Barnum

Aye, I never would have even guessed that until MattyP just said it – of course, I’m nowhere near saying it’s completely possible going off that picture, as to me it just looks like knives – not even looking like an ArenaNet looking image – but his suggestion of kits does sound like a good one.
Trowing knives, throwing stars, maybe some sort of Quasi-magical throwing blobs of shadow skill!
WE WANT THIEF KITS!!!
omg please don’t let it be melee staff, 1.I thought revenant was getting that in the expansion, 2. It does not fit the play style , i don’t see a lot of stealth or other thief like ability’s coming with a weapon set like this, 3. thieves are not monks -_- we are made to go in battle with the advantage and put pressure on enemy’s, and going back out if needed, then coming back in to finish the job, but still depends on how you play our beloved backstabbers. I spent my first year playing engineer, and it didn’t feel right, then i checked out thief and have been playing it ever since, don’t make me regret it.
Here’s a crazy idea, don’t play it.
If they added staff thief it wouldn’t mean the removal of any of the existing weapons/skills/trait lines.
Think about it.
“I don’t want anyone else to have this because I don’t like it and think it shouldn’t be added even though I could totally just ignore it I feel other people having the option would totally ruin what we already have even if the new options don’t change existing options at all.”
This is what you sound like.
Why not instead suggest something you’d like to see?
Suggest some options you think would be cool/benefit the class options instead.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Weapon master
Kit 1 > Staff
Kit 2 > Rifle
Kit 3 > Throwing knives
etc…
I was about to say it could be a new back item skin, but your idea is way better.
So, That_Shaman just tweeted this:
Throwing knives and a pouch to carry them in.
Friggin shot in the dark, but… Thief Kits?
I… I think I love you! Thief Kits? Yes please!
if we’re sticking to the “one class per weapon” idea…
weapons already taken:
longbow, greatsword, staff, shield
what remains?
axe, dagger, mace, pistol, sword, focus, warhorn, rifle, torch, scepter
of those what can’t thief already use?
axe, mace, focus, warhorn, rifle, torch, scepter
i certainly can’t see a thief using maces, torches, warhorns, focuses or scepters.
so its down to axe and rifle, and of the 2 i’d more expect rifle since the class is already seen as a competent melee class. (and other specs we’ve seen seem to like mixing it up)
Meditations fit Monk style.
Also Mantras work…

Mantras look like it may be the case…
or Physicals..
Staff Thief is one of the most exciting Elite Specs. I dont play Thief, but may play the class for this Elite Spec.

The one weapon type per class been debunked with the Mesmer and Revenant both getting shields.

Nothing has been debunked since Rev elite has not been announced.
No datamined material is considered accurate since so much has ended up being scrapped.. It might be true or it might not be. That is the best we can say at this stage
Thief might be getting staff, it might not
Has there been ranger confirmation of staff? If not same rule applies.
Rev might be getting shield, as normal or elite. It might not.

it is when the artist were paid to make art for the elite specs.
thats far different than just coding in place holder skills.

Concept art has existed for things that never made it into game before though. Voice actors were paid for lines that never made it into the game – like the whole Marjory death scene in LS1. That too was datamined
I’m not saying thief wont get staff, but people need to stop acting like it is absolute fact. It isn’t until it’s announced – something That_shaman has vigorously tried to communicate at times.

If we’re assuming thieves are getting kits (I’m not saying that they definitely are but it’d be cool) then the idea of an off-hand sword or maybe torch seems really viable. I just hope they are able to pull off the kits in a way that the class that gets them doesn’t feel too similar to engineers. I kind of feel that weapon kits would fit more into the theme of the warrior because warriors are supposed to be the “Master of Weapons” but we’ll see.
What you guys think the new profession mechanic for thieves will be?
Can’t remember what game it was, but there was one that I tried where the monk was not the same style as a GW1 Monk, was more a brawler type, martial artist without weapons, or perhaps knuckle dusters.
DAOC priest maybe? It used the staff as weapon.

Is there an example of a non-elite spec profession gaining its own weapon skin? No. Four core specializations have been revealed for the Revenant, and we know that both Shiro and Glint remain for the datamined Rev specs. Only one of the two can be a core specialization. That_Shaman datamined a Glint-esque dragon shield alongside other ascended weapons that corresponded to revealed e-spec weapon skins. No need to play games here. What do you think the safe money bet would be for the Revenant spec weapon? Is that weapon type the same as another revealed e-spec unlocked weapon? If so, then it would disprove the theory that the unlocked weapon type will not be shared by another e-spec’s unlocked weapon type. Simple as that.

Anet announced it when they revealed HoT. GS Necro and Druid Staff Ranged.

Rev is a new profession altogether. It is going to have its own core access to weapons and since we have 1 more specialization to go before we can start talking about elites, I say that the one weapon type per class is still factored.
Besides, thief wielding a melee staff isn’t going to change up how thieves play which is the point of elite specs. At most, it’ll make weeaboos squeal with joy that they can RP as a ninja.
Nobody is going to know what thief’s elite spec is until it’s revealed but everyone who hates thieves want it to have something that doesn’t work on other professions, like mace or warhorn. Neither of them will really change up gameplay on their own making w/e mechanic that comes with it the main source of playstyle change.

If it is kits then it will most likely be 1 kit and 1 weap for 10 new skills like everyone other proff is getting

The reaper gets 5 new weapon skills, 1 new healing skill, 1 new elite skill, 4 new utility skills and 5 new death shroud skills for a grand total of 16 new skills.
Hmm ur right Nec is getting more and ill assume the Engi will get extra due to toolbelt skills but no way they give Thief 5 kits. Thats 25 new skills without including any new weap.
melee staff would actually be my top pick for the thief elite.

No the game he thinking of is VANGUARD. They had melee monks.

What you guys think the new profession mechanic for thieves will be?
I was thinking earlier today “What could possibly replace ‘Steal’ for thief?” and then I realised that a thief would no longer be a thief with the Elite Spec anyway – so whatever replaces F1 & F2 would probably involve perhaps Shadowstepping to the foe, and doing some sort of Hand-to-Hand flurry, maybe then Shadowstepping back to safety with F2.
I can also kinda see the specialisation being able to do some Quasi-Magic Shadow manipulation too – like surrounding in a black aura perhaps, that absorbs or blocks damage.
The beauty of the thief profession is, by it’s very nature it’s all vague to start with – so a lot is up for possibility.
