Probably the most interesting elite spec revealed to date. It’s right up there with the Chronomancer. I don’t play a thief but that looks crazy!!
Wow! Looking really fun! Can’t wait to see how it actually plays!
Oh man. That name. BWAHAHAHAHA..
I mean, the details make them seem like they might be a bit OP in some ways, but not so much so compared to the new specs coming out, just compared to base.
That name though man. Wow. Dragonhunter is sounding SO much better now.
Would it have killed them to just call them Assassins again?

Daredevil > Dragon Hunter
Any day. All day long. Regardless of spec; all characters are dragon hunters. Not everyone is a daredevil. xD
Geez, the thief sounds like it’s going to be overpowered. Personally, I think there’s something wrong with a single person being able to take on a whole group by themselves, as stated in the blog’s opening.
I’m getting worried with this anti chill stuff: first reaper (-66% duration), then tempest (overload cleanse chill and makes immune for the cast) and now daredevil (remove chill on dodge). At this rate will reaper be innefective by the start of HoT.
looks really really interesting…
friday’s livestream should be cool.. wonder how much aoe that’s going to be?
I can barely contain the hype within myself right now.
this looks amazing!!
well… I guess it’s time to start on artificing then.. :p
Hype?….interesting?, its a Thief, a sneaky character there is killing and stealing stuff. The Dagger, Sword, Pistol and Bow do actually make sense….but a Stick…i’m going to sneak up on people with a Stick and club them?…what??! Give them the Rifle and become a Sniper or something, that would make sense, but a STICK!!
Take this scenario ….“I’m in the shadows, sneaking around in the dark allies….I see my kill target. I slowly get closer and closer, the target is still unknown about, that this is going to be his last seconds of his life. Right before I kill him he hear a faint sound and then he turns around, he see me CLUB HIM WITH A FREAKING STICK!!!”….no no….nooope, does not “stick” with the Thief.
Well my thief can hide a max height Norn warrior in plain sight. I don’t think a staff is such a problem.
Hate the name… it just doesn’t fit at all. Though I am liking the specialization itself. Bout time we got a real block. Not sure how I feel about this being a replacement to the nerfed acrobatics trait line though… its starting to look like they are purposefully making base trait lines bad for the purpose of these elite specializations.

But it’s not a thief. It’s a daredevil…

Never hard about capturning people for things like information gathering, ransom,… ? Could be much eaier if your weapon could hit someone unconcious?

You’ve never seen the kind of real damage blunt force weapons can do to a another have you? And a “reach” weapon at that. Yeah, I’m okie with it, especially in the fantasy game such as this.

Take a look at it. Mesmer, Necromancer, Guardian, Elementalist and Revenant (and now …..Thief) can use Staff….then why not give it to everybody now, Warriors probably also need it…So many classes can use it and only…ONLY, Warrior and Engineer can use the Rifle, it would have been WAY more interesting to give the Rifle to the Thief and have some variations between the weapons used in the game.

Thieves really needed a way to do AoE damage.

dont forget, druid gets the staff too.
Please give us a keyring…
Meh, not sure about the staff. I would have liked to seen off hand sword, but the stick has potential.
The name, however, has got to go. Assassin, heck, even Ninja would be better than daredevil IMHO.
Oh yea Rangers…forgot about that sorry. Theif do have AoE damage, the do have the Short Bow and they can, like all others hit multi targets with the Daggers, they did have the Pistols AoE, but removed it…because of…have no idea…they were eating schrooms or something.
Hm, I have a ninja outfit and some red dye…
Y’all can see where this is going. XD

There are few if any arguing that the Rifle should not have more utilization amongst the classes. However, they didn’t end up going with Rifles this time around. What that doesn’t mean is that the staff (or as you condescendingly state a “stick”. I mean, seriously? Martial weapon archetypes include the staff in almost every source, so this is not farfetched at all.) isn’t useful or a good weapon choice. Of your listed professions, only one of them uses the staff as a melee weapon and even then it is focused around a more supporting play-style. Melee staves are not a bad thing. Also, you didn’t mention that Druids will also be getting the staff. If it makes you feel better, the second round of Elite Specs will likely have no staves added in.
That’s the other point; the second Elite Specs. There will be more of these later on. It is almost undoubtedly the case that Thieves may get rifles next time. Either that or maces, so they would just be trolling us at that point, but we’ll see.

Thieves really needed a way to do AoE damage.
thief had short bow, and sword for aoe dmg.
in fact staff utility is pretty similar to sword/pistol.
I like the staff weapon, but its basically similar in use to sword pistol. whichever one end up being better at that playstyle will destroy the other. I think they are going to have to boost sword sustainable damage, and increase staff in combat mobility, or maybe give it like slightly more range

its possible druid got scrapped, or it no longer uses staff. but yeah if the nexts spec ever happen (i think this may be more work than they are willing to commit to in the future) that the probably wont be passing out any more staves.

Sword had a max of like 3 targets and underwhelming compared to what other classes could do.
I did wrote that i forgot about the Druid (Ranger) and using the Staff as a Melee Weapon make sense if you are some kind of saolin monk, but there isnt any monks i GW2…sadly.
The Thief as originally build on the concept of the Assassin from GW1 and trying to make a new kind of class for GW2, the Thief came out of it, base on an Assassin type character and they didnt mix it with a Monk.
But if the second Elite Specs better be a Rifle.
Mace….blunt force trauma…ookay, maybe.
Focus…noope, Scepter…noooope, Shield…come on…

Probably because they create specs based on a cool concept and not on what weapon needs to be represented more. Seems to pay off imo, i love the daredevil. Name, staff and everything

I thought I had seen 5 in those datamined images but I guess not. The new spec offers a different playstyle. Giving them a rifle just felt like a waste.

the spec playstyle is a more thought out version of the sword/x acro style.
which is ok, i like the flavor, traits, and utils,
but the staff itself is going to be in direct competition with sword/x for that type of playstyle, either sword or staff needs more diffrentiation, or they will cannabilize each other.
Its not like other classes where it might still be useful due to cooldowns.
This is so cheap… Anet. How can I rationally critizice your designs if you put DOUBLE ENDURANCE on them?
Now i’m going to forget totally about the many rifle possibilities, the sad destiny of the pistols and how little staff changes the thief playstyle and simply devote to dodge, dodge, dodge with my shiny Daredevil.
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”
Hawks
I do worry that, by defining this spec by endurance/dodging they are going to gut em pretty bad if they nerf their dodges/endurance.

So staff looks like it fit perfectly with the Thief. Can’t wait to try out Daredevil!
Now we just need a collapsible one!

Or one that comes apart into two pieces. Brilliant.
Just FYI, these elite specializations are actually “new” classes, they’re a sub-class, but they’re not the base class, and as such their fantasy and lore are open to new interpretations. Also Daredevil isn’t far from the thief. Where as base-thief is precise and quiet, using tricks to get an upper hand, the Daredevil is a bit more fearless and reckless in their quest for riches, preferring to pummel down enemies and roll in with acrobatics to take what they want and get out alive.
At least theres some form of visible fantasy behind this decision…
Dragonhunters are basically what everyone is and has very little that sets it apart or ties it to the base class to be a suitable sub-class, which is why I wish they had just called it Sentinel.

Give a rifle to Thief because they lack a long range option. Hit foes from 1200 range with hard hitting single target attacks, then use stealth, rinse repeat. I can’t be the only one that sees a problem here, long range + stealth is easily abusable. Unless they made it so you get the revealed debuff for as long as you got a rifle equipped and for some time after you swap, a rifle would be way too hard to balance.

I dunno, my thought on rifle-thief has one skill:
[BANG!]: Range 1500, does absurd damage. Alerts all targets within 3000, applies Revealed for 30 seconds. Taunts all enemies in range 3000 for 30 seconds.

Not Sniper. Disappointed.
Have to see how that insta gank on downed works. Downed combat is still my number one gripe about this game downed state is awful. The majority of the time whoever I fought in a perfectly even 1v1 and won by downing them is now all of a sudden 10 times stronger while downed. Then there is the fact you have to stealth or use stab to actually get a gank cus every single downed person can stealth teleport interupt etc…
