I for one am really hyped for the expansion. ANet haven’t let me down in any big way like other game developers have, and I can’t wait to be able to explore the heart of the maguuma and experience all the awesome features like specialisations and gliding.

The recent backlash is absolutely not representative of the community at all. GW2 has by far and away the best community of any MMO (perhaps even any game period) I have played in over a decade. I’m sure once all this silliness blows over the community will be back to it’s old self and we’ll all be venturing in to the lair of Mordremoth together.

I totally understand what you mean by GW2 being a truly multiplayer experience. ANet have really pushed for the cooperative PvE experience rather than a competitive PvE one (Something I feel contributes to the generally good attitude of the community) and they’ve done it masterfully.

Rage and drama aside, I’m truly looking forward to HoT and everything it brings with it at launch and in the future.

• not sure I’d call it silliness – it’s a consumer base raising a number of valid concerns with a business that doesn’t seem interested in listening.
• also, I’d argue that the recent backlash could well be representative of the community. much of the backlash is people dealing with real-life business issues, but I expect the vast majority of people involved are just as nice, friendly and welcoming in-game as anyone.

Euhmm, yes it is. A community is a group of people, the players on the forums are a group of people. I play the game and am mostly in there, but i am also part of this forum ‘community’.

Just look at the forum pages and count the number of posts made about the current ‘issue’, and you’ll soon realize that it’s indeed “the community” responding in a massive way about, for the most part, 1 thing.

If you mean it’s not representative of how they usually are, then yes, you’re right, they’re usually friendly. But this is an ‘unusual’ time to say the least.

I wish you’d be right, but i don’t think so, you won’t see certain players anymore, at least not in HoT (for quite some time), that’s for sure. My guess is that only 10% max from all players buys into the whole pre-order thing. The rest is just waiting to see what will happen and how Anet will respond.

If unfavorable, then i think you’re being rather to optimistic.

I’m not going to bother responding to any points made, as I won’t contribute to yet another positive post being derailed by rage.

On a side note, i’m happy for those that wanted the guildhalls, personally i don’t see myself spending lots of time in there, it’s mainly good for the big kahuna guilds out there i think. They’ll have plenty to keep em busy. I just wonder what it’s going to cost to build up your guildhall. I’m just guessing it won’t be for free. We’ll (or you’ll) see.

This community has heart, you have pegged them right on, thank you. I am that super helpful Veteran that help a new player roll around the game for 5 hours when I could have been doing something. I help them with a bags and some silver, I help explain thinks if they are confused.

I want them to stay and enjoy the game, but I also have heart to stand up and say I work hard for my money, I have so many other things that this money could go too. I take from things so that I have a form of enjoyment that helps me unwind and deal with the stress, but now I feel that it is being added too.

I disagree with the people directing unfiltered anger at inappropriate people. I think those people are making a kitten of them selves and likley trolling anyways. But I think the majority of the upset community is reacting appropriaely.

Have Anet make better or more communication I think this would likely have calmed down alot more to a gentle mew very the primal roar that it is currently. When my wife and me fight the silent treatment always and I say this always makes things worse, that what you do when you are kids, it is not expected of Adults and not epected of a business.

I want to appreciate, I do understand that there is alot of work dont and the quality is spot on, the art devs and programmers and storyline people don’t generally have a part of these decisions, so one thank you for your hard work we really want to see alot more of it and know the rest. Two we don’t know what going to be released so that fueling again make you point right now it’s unfair and the value does not seem to match up.

New money is important but customer retention also important, please address the preceived feel of hurt from the Veteran players, though the longer waited the harder it’s going to be to convince, unless you don’t care and just come out and say that either way.
