This is not about the money!
I +1 your argument until you get to your friend.
Your friend bought the game when an expansion was announced in January. Yeah 50 bucks is steep, but he should’ve known way beforehand that he was probably going to spending at LEAST 40 bucks just because that seems to be the typical price for expansions.
…it’s a little bit about the money. But it’s also about this. Very much so.
It is simple:
- ¿Don’t you have GW2 yet? —--> you pay $50 for a bundle of GW2+HoT and you recieve GW2+HoT. Recieved what you bought. Nice deal.
- ¿Do you have GW2 already? —> you pay $50 for a bundle of GW2+HoT and you recieve just HoT. You dont receive what you bought. Wrong deal.
¿Where goes the GW2 copy that you are buying and you dont recieve if you already have one?
¿Nobody from sales and marketing department saw this coming?
If that is the case, ¿when they will be fired for not seeing it and when are you going to fix it?
¿Why no one from anet speaks about this?
I wonder, ¿is this indictable?

We bought a copy of the core game Guild Wars 2 when we didn’t want it, (We already bought it and payed for it years ago), could it be given away or gifted to somebody else, and we keep the HoT expansion, I’m guessing not here.
oi, it’s also about the money… expac is pretty kitten thin for $50… all you get for $50 is:
- a new class
- a new PVE zone
- guild halls
specialisations, WVW map and PVP game being rolled out before expac.

Not to mention you forgot about the Elite specs.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
It’s just anet trying to see if people are willing to buy a 2 in 1 feature pack patch for 50usd. Cos after this there will be no base game/expansion differentiation. It’s all just a 50usd patch ^^
You also get all the time, enjoyment and experience you’ve had from the game up to HoT.
Look at WoW’s draenor deal. new players can get draenor, and only have to pay $5 for EVERY SINGLE EXPANSION WOW HAS EVER RELEASED, so long as they pay $60 for draenor. That is expansion content that veteran players have spent hundreds of dollars on over the years. There’s no outrage over at the WoW community, because they can grasp what most people here seem incapable of: that the value of a product mostly goes down over time, and that allowing new players an easy access gateway is good for game health.
GW2’s base game now is not worth what it was at launch, and ANet are doing the best they can to ensure that new players are not cut off by a divide or extra expense of buying the expansion or sticking with the base game. it’s a good idea and I support it. This approach is good for game health, it’s good for new players, and in the long run it’s good for veterans, too, who will have more people to play the content with rather than be segregated by pay walls.
Veteran players have had up to three years of content enjoyment, much of that unique and non-repeatable, that newer players will not experience.
I am utterly baffled that people can not grasp this concept that what people paid 3 years ago is not representative of right now.
People that bought the game in recent months who purchased it purely as a gateway to HoT, their upset I can understand, but not long-term veterans. (PSA: GW2 customer services is working out refunds for those who DID buy recently who want instead to just outright buy the expansion)

You still don’t see the unfairness, ok fine i give +1 that i was able to played the game longer time. BUT! We should at least get the same thing if we are require to pay the same price! well its not the case here. If you are new to the game you’re $50 will get you the core game(new account code) and the expansion. If you already have the game you can only get a code to upgrade your account! So no new account code! WTF! If they want to add core game as a separate bonus item then i should get it also! i may not need it but i can give to a friend! So why cant i even get that!? The only way to get all they stuff that was sold to me is if i make a new account with the with expansion, but my old account then will not have access to the expansion! ANET really need to do something about this BS.

Actually either way you get a code if you buy via the website.
This code can provide one of two things.
a 100% new account with absolutely nothing unlocked and 5 character slots as well as HoT access, OR it can upgrade an existing account to grant HoT access without in any way impacting your account progress or taking away from what you have already experienced within the game.
The choice is available to you to create an entirely new account to experience HoT with, you have to make a choice whether you want to use your code to create a new account and give up everything you’ve ever worked towards on your old for HoT access, or apply the code to an existing account for HoT access.
So no, new players are not, in actual fact, getting any more than veteran players. Veteran players are being provided with two options for what they wish to do with their access code, either make a new account with HoT access, or upgrade an existing account with HoT access.
rapthorne, i see your defense about this as: they are allowed to try to give us an unfair deal, cause we had a great time with the last deal they made with us.
I completely disagree. I paid for GW2 3 years ago, i got what i paid for, and i enjoyed. This time it is not the same deal at all: They want me to pay for a bundle and i wont receive that bundle, just a part of it.

Up to almost three years of access to the game that new players have not had?
You always have the choice to use the key to create a new account, nothing’s stopping you. If you truly believe that you need to get the base game bonus for your money’s worth then go for it, that option is entirely open to you.
rapthorne, i see your defense about this as: they are allowed to try to give us an unfair deal, cause we had a great time with the last deal they made with us.
I completely disagree. I paid for GW2 3 years ago, i got what i paid for, and i enjoyed. This time it is not the same deal at all: They want me to pay for a bundle and i wont receive that bundle, just a part of it.
You get one key, this is not a bundle. There’s no way to separate the base game key with the HoT key, to use them on different accounts for example.
That one key does two things depending on what you, personally, choose to do with it. You are getting more options than a new player, but still have the option open to you to make use of the free base game inclusion on a new account.

It isn’t a bundle it is the sale for HoT. The “Gw2 Core Included” clarification was ironically to avoid confusion on if they needed to buy the base separately. Which they can’t because HoT is the base. Games devalue overtime, with vanilla being down to 10$/sale their next step is to roll it into a single package.
New players who bought with the intent of upgrading, do have a legitimate argument. Primarily for bait and switch.

Up to almost three years of access to the game? Thats a “Bonus”?? If i remember correctly I pay money for the “Up to almost three years of access to the game” so its technically not a “Bonus”. Most good business reward there long term loyal customers for their loyalties, but currently the loyal customers are getting rip-off by ANET. Just plain bad business they are pulling.
You also get all the time, enjoyment and experience you’ve had from the game up to HoT.
People seriously need to cut it out with that.
Me playing the game has nothing to do with Anet being able to make me a kittenty offer & it’s even make the matter worst in fact.
This is the biggest fallacy I ever saw.
It’s a package deal for new players. End of.
We should be welcoming of new players, not complaining. What kind of message are posts like the “It’s not fair on veteran players!” setting to new players? I’m finding it more and more disgusting the amount of contempt people are ‘showing’ towards new players.
When a new player comes into the game, I would rather them see “Welcome to Guild Wars 2” rather than “It’s not fair these new players getting a better deal than us” it just shoots the wrong message across of people’s attitudes.

“Gw2 Core Included” Huh.. so where is my copy of that “Gw2 Core Included”? It seems like I wont to getting somethings that was supposedly included in my purchase because i have bought it previously. The clarification be like this “Gw2 Core Included and if you have bought this before you will still pay the same amount and the included will be excluded out because your previously supporting the game”
It’s a package deal for new players. End of.
Oh yeah an exclusive package deal for new player now when it’s the only package announced ?
It’s not a that GW2 is a free bonus for HoT expansion or GW2 is included in the package anymore ?
Can you get that straight once & for all ?
Can you tell me where is the offer for old player ?
Because I’m sure you know what Anet think.

Here we go again with the other crap:
ONCE and for all;
This is not about new player being unwanted by veteran.
This is about Anet screwing veteran & treating them lesser than newplayers.
And I said LESSER.
We don’t ask for SUPERIOR treatement to them; we ask for equality.

To be clear, we are not targeting new players. This has nothing to do with them. Its about how ANET is treating the veteran players unfairly. You know what, I rather ANET just make the core game free for download for all people then to be added to the expansion. So that way new players and veteran players both pay same and will get the same things!

What is the message that is coming across ?
Because I’m pretty sure that this have always been the veteran message since this debacle started.
i dont get the complaints about the price.
I bought expansion of starcraft 2, that was adding only a few new units and 10 missions in single players with a few CG video and it was at an higher price than HOTW.
I really dont get what people want. What about go play archeage? No one is forcing you to buy it and ArenaNet know it. Stop QQ about price, if you dont feel 45euro is not the value of keep play in a new environment this game, just dont buy it and the price will go down itself.
Complaining about price only tells Arenanet that you want this expansion.
For my point of wiew, there’s people paying in gems for skins, and I dont get why people shouldnt pay for having a new personal story, new event maps, new guild feature, new profession, new skills, new specializations, new mechanics, new wvw and pvp mode, new world boss.

If this is how ANET is heading to then everyone have the right to know. We should not create a false image of whats happening here in this community so we can trick more “new players” in to game. they have they rights to know also. In couple month to a year they will be vets and if we dont do anything right now then this will happen to them. All this is just asking ANET to be more fair and equal. Its not that much to ask.
No, it’s not about Money
It’s about jealousy.
Why do you care if a new player who starts playing Guild Wars 2 three years later gets the core game for free?
You’re jealous, that’s why.
I got my money’s worth out of GW2 in the past three years. Now I’m going to buy the expansion and get my money’s worth again for the new content. I don’t see the problem. I certainly don’t feel like I’m being slapped in the face by Arenanet.
I do not begrudge new players if they get a better deal. Good for them I say! I’m happy they get such an awesome deal! See you in tyria new players
Also there’s no loyalty kind of reward. If you have been loyal, you have make the original Gw2 price just much more worth than players that have play it less.
And this is coming from a veteran with 6k + hours in the game.
Speaking personaly? I wont buy it yet till they don’t give more further clarifications about new guilds leaderboards and new way for guilds to challenge to each others, cuz that’s what i am searching in the game, if they can convince me i will buy, else i wont complaint about price, i will just not buy it.

Please read the title “this is not about money”
I do not begrudge new players if they get a better deal.
Neither do I, I begrudge Anet for flawing me.
There is a nuance there that you don’t seems to get.
Since some people might not have noticed, here is my opinion why you are not treated unfairly.
Everyone, and I repeat, EVERYONE, who buys HoT gets both, the expansion and the coregame. There is nothing that says that veterans don’t get the free coregame.
You can create a new account with the coregame and the expansion just like every new player. So no difference there. However, I do understand that this would technically make HoT an expanded standalone game and not just an expansion.
Now, there is one difference between new players and veterans: veterans have the option to merge their already existing account into HoT, basically allowing you to skip everything you would have to redo in the coregame if you started a new account.
And your current account already has so many things that new players will never be able to experience like the living story and other events that were time-gated.
I do understand why veterans feel treated unfairly, but so many of them simply ignore the benefits they already have compared to what a new player will never experience.
I do not begrudge new players if they get a better deal.

Arenanet is not flawing you. They give you new content, you have to buy for it. End of story.

Not gonna answer you anymore. End of story.
Also there’s no loyalty kind of reward. If you have been loyal, you have make the original Gw2 price just much more worth than players that have play it less.
So this give Anet the right to screw me.
An example on Gw2; a new offer appear on the black lion :
– a new item very game changing (just for the example). The offer say that:
– if your account is less than 2 months old; it will cost you 400 gems.
– if your account is older than 2 months; its will cost you 800 gems.
Would you be happy ?
But that’s not happening. According to the op the expansion costs 50 bucks no matter if you’re a veteran or a new player with the latter getting the core game for free.
So your example should actually read:
-if your account is less than 2 months old; it will cost you 400 gems.
-if your account is older than 2 months; it will cost you 400 gems.
……
Not gonna answer you anymore. End of story
This is so very simple. Anet, just let us trade in the “free core game” for a character slot, or some gems. The price is…managable, it’s not nice but it could be worse. What we want is that when you are being nice to the new players, be nice to the veterans as well.
Just give something instead of the core game to the veterans.
Also there’s no loyalty kind of reward. If you have been loyal, you have make the original Gw2 price just much more worth than players that have play it less.

If you are a veteran willing to enjoy every aspect of the game, you pay 60 bucks, not 50.
Son of Elonia.

No the example would be the following:
-The new item comes to the cash shop.
-if your account is older than 12 months it will cost you 400 gems.
-if your account is younger than 12 months it will cost you 400 gems and you get a free mini queen jennah, which you – as a verteran – recieved with your birthday gift a long time ago already.
But would you cry about it?
All we wanted was a GvG.

you’re right, the cost doesn’t change.
the items do. a more valid example would be:
the Identity Repair Kit – 1000 gems, no matter who you are.
contains 1 name change contract, and 1 total makeover kit.
but imagine if:
- A) if you bought it, but had already received a total makeover kit at some point before (via AP chests, Black Lion Chest drops, etc) you only get the name change contract
- B) neither the makeover kit nor the contract are available separately. you can only buy the identity repair kit as a whole
now imagine you want to change your character’s name, and already have a makeover kit. does this package seem fair now? you’re paying for the kit and the contract, but only getting the contract. true it’s the same price for everyone, but it’s much better for someone who hasn’t had a Total Makeover Kit before.

Correct, it’s better for someone who hasn’t had the Total Makeover Kit before.
But since I’m not a person prone to jealousy I don’t really care if Bob gets a better deal than me. Good for him I say!

-if your account is younger than 12 months it will cost you 400 gems and you get a free mini mini at 400 gems that 12 month players have paid for before.
Would be more accurate.

Exactly.
That’s how marketing works.
Don’t tell me you have never seen something as an advertisement gift which you had to pay before.
But do you go to blind rage and want your money back every time you see this because it is for free now?
All we wanted was a GvG.
I am utterly baffled that people can not grasp this concept that what people paid 3 years ago is not representative of right now.
How funny that you are the one who fails to comprehend the real problem.
There were 3 $10 sales for GW2 this year, yet nobody complained. This is not about a new deal for the new players, this is Anet forcing the same deal on the veterans. We have to buy a bundled product and we don’t even receive the second item.
If you want to offer a bundle for GW2+HoT, be me quest. Make the game F2P, that’s cool, too. But offer a different option to those that already own the game, not a strictly inferior deal.

“Before”, “now”?
There is no time difference, we all buy the SAME PRODUCT, at the SAME PRICE, at the SAME TIME.
We both go to the counter together, buy the same thing, pay the same price, but the cashier gives only you an extra gift. When I ask for my gift, she tells me that I bought it for money a few years ago, surely I have no use for it anyway.

But they simply don’t have to offer a different option for those who already own the game. I’m sorry but you’re nothing special for already owning the game.
But since I’m not a person prone to jealousy I don’t really care if Bob gets a better deal than me. Good for him I say!
Would you come work at my place with me for boss at 50% of my salary (60 to be nice) .
We would do the exact same work & have the same number of hours.
I heard you wasn’t jealous so you should agree.
My boss would be very happy to have you as a employee.

Look. Lets say you are having an insurance. And there are 2 stages of it: the basic, and the advanced.
You’ve been paying for the advanced for years and now – as marketing – a new customer gets the advanced insurance for the price of the basic one.
But will you get your money back? No. Because that’s not how this works.
You both got the same product, yet the new customer gets the better deal.
E: It fits more if you say that you were having basic for years and are now upgrading to advanced.
The same purchase at the same time. Your words.
All we wanted was a GvG.

But new players are special for not owning it ? How come ?
