Not sure, but I’m wondering if that’s a clue on the functionality of the spec. Maybe they’ll get some of the mesmers functionality that creates distractions on the battlefield, shadow clones or something similar, would definitely fit the ninja vibe.

No, that’s definitely a thief.

The concept art for rangers has always depicted the pet clearly, and are typically green based in coloration. They have stuck to their color pallets thus far, even with elites, there is no reason to assume they would change now.

It’s the thief guys. All those picture were datamined a long long time ago. The Druids is a green background with an eagle, a wolf and a bear.

Whelp, there goes the neighborhood. The rest of the spec is going to have to be like unto the gods themselves to make up for that weapon choice.

Oh well. I’ve got an S/P build I’m perfectly content with. Heh, looks like I’ll be sticking to it. Was nice to dream, though…

EDIT:: Pax was being sarcastic, people. He was sassing folks who were arguing over the datamined Thief image a while back and still hoping ArenaNet would make the correct choice and give Thieves rifles. Clearly not the case, regrettable as that is.

I was thinking the same, really sure it won’t be a stealth spec. but more for “distraction” tools.

was crossing fingers for druid xD but oh well, atleast they finally working on medium armor reveal. nice to see that Anet didnt used the PAX event as an excuse to give specialization reveals a rest, i hope thief staff gameplay feels way more agile than revenant, since they seem to be taking a “monkey king” kind of aproach from what i can see here

What I like the most with this new is that they had an almost free pass to not show any elite this week with the PAC announcement. If they decided to show the thief in the same week as PAX, that might mean that they will show us the Druid and Engineer in the next two weeks.

Aw, man. Warrior last week and Thief this week means that both classes I don’t play are being done in a row. Bad luck for me I guess.

It’s pretty obvious now that it’s coming down to crunch time as far as getting the elites finished and properly tested in the Beta Events before the eventual HOT release. It’s unlikely they could afford to skip anymore weeks, what with 2 more elites to go after this.

I don’t think it would be clones or anything like that. Clones and illusions are more of a profession mechanic for the mesmer. If they get anything from mesmer I would place money on mantras or manipulation. Then again Anet could do the same thing with thief as beserker and make their own special set of skills. Of course, this is just speculation really. Hopefully they will do another Wednesday teaser before the Thursday release.

I was hoping for rifle, but thats almost certainly a staff. There is no trigger there near the rear hand.

And yeah, looks like thief too. kitten , I was hoping we would get rifle with a trait to partially make up for losing ricochet, but guess not.

So, distracting? Some kind of shadow magic, or wushin staff fighting? I’m guessing the former, due to the comment of distractions.

to be honest i like the idea of a martial staff more than a sniper rifle, but i can see them doing more interesting other things with a sniper/marksman/tactical class, than i can with a martial design.

at the same time if the staff ends up being non martial thats gonna feel pretty crappy. Heres hoping the mechanics and utilities will create an awesome interesting playstyle.

Distraction sounds like aggro control. May be a new defensive tanking elite specialization.

Rev and mesmer both got shield, so it indicates no reason druide cant niw get staff

they are ok with doubling up on weapons is what it means.
Though its possible they changed plans on druid.

Staff druid was shown in the trailer.
Afaik it was purely assumption from the players that the weapons would be unique.

Druid still get’s a staff as far as we are aware. It’s not the first duplicate we’ve seen. Both mesmer and rev elite specs got shield.

Ooooh I hadn’t even thought of Bifrost. That’s been the legendary I’ve most wanted all these years, were I motivated enough to make any legendary at all.

Good thing I saved out enough unidentified dyes for it from the “sorry you had all those duplicates when we made them account wide, here’s five stacks of dye for you” time. I always thought I might want to make Bifrost.

Just gotta see what the new legendaries are to make sure none of them grab me more.

i hope one of the traits that comes with the spec is something like the +300 vitality trait in guardian’s honor line. It would be awesome to have a tankier playstyle along with this.

to be honest, it was pretty apparent that we were getting staff for a while. and staff’s not a bad weapon – if they do the skills/traits/mechanic right, it could be incredible.

really what matters is the details, which we’ll be seeing later this week

(plus, while dragonhunter didn’t make sense with guardian mechanically or thematically, staff thief certainly makes sense thematically)
