So HoT was released with 4 maps. A little disappointing, but okay. You can’t explore the maps completely without masteries, and that irked me because I like to explore 100% before continuing, but I decided to do the storyline in the meantime. But you can’t progress that without masteries either. So it’s story, farm, story, farm, story, farm…

So I’m at the mordremoth fight, and apparently it’s really hard to dodge the rocks without even more masteries… So back to the farm.

I understand “gating” certain things, but in the future could you not gate the storyline and map exploration?

I think the idea was to try to recreate the pushing further into the jungle and learning stuff as you go. I can’t reach this, but now I can glide. I can’t get to this but now I can.

People asked for a form of meaningful progression. In other games it’s done by level but Anet didn’t raise the level cap.

The best part about it is that it’s account bound so you unlock a mastery once and you have it on every character.

I liked having to actually participate in the different Metas to gain experience to continue the story, but I do understand your point.
Anyways you technically don’t need anything other than basic gliding to defeat Mordremoth. You can either enter someone else’s instance (Mord only throws rocks to the instance owner) or close your glider when you see a rock coming for you and then deploy it again before reaching the floor (aim for an updraft, or you gonna die).

I wouldn’t mind them not gating Story with map exploration. I’ll explore the kitten out of every map nonetheless!

Update: Thanks to the buggy nature of the mordremoth fight, me and some friends went from phase 2 directly to phase 5 and killed him.

TIP: If you make a 180 degree turn every 2-3 seconds during the rock throwing phase, you won’t get hit. This applied to basic gliding too.
