Time-gated items to start working no now...

Q:

I want to play the game casually to really take in the game but am worried that this slow approach will put me far behind in terms of time-gated items (ie., things that you can only do/craft once per day). I don’t want to start working on a legendary a month from now to only realize then that I needed a month’s worth of time-gated crafting materials.

I was not able to find much info on this so please share any new time-gated events/tasks you found in HoT.

Well things I’m sure new legendaries will need: Fulgurite, make kitten tons of this because even ascended gear that needs it requires 450 of them for the full set. I would save all of your currencies obtained in the first three maps for now until legendaries come out because I am sure the legendaries will require some item from each faction that will cist a large amount of whatever currency.

On the fulgurite note, I wouldn’t make fulgurite yet, just save up the materials needed for it (airship oil, auric sand, and ley line sparks) as I’m sure these will be needed.

Also get your map completion in the magus falls all done because the gift from doing it is required for legendaries

Crafting items and materials should never be timegated. Period. End of story.

Yes they should as it gives control over the supply and allows “time” to be given a value. Not for everything but it makes sense to have this mechanic.

Remember crafting had no real way to make money before they added these time gated things into the game, they are a useful part of the economy and give a reward for leveling crafting.

Not sure why you’d be so dismissive of these benefits.

Because there should never be a pure hard cap on progress. If you want crafting materials to have value, then decrease their drop rates or make them more difficult to acquire. Many of these materials are also account bound, which means that they instead have no impact on the economy.

Players should never be punished for trying to make the most of their time. Timegating enforces the idea of logging in every day for weeks to do something that could normally be done in a few minutes’ time. It needs to go.

While it’s true the first part of all the time gated crafting materials are account, the refined end product is not. E.g. the Lump of Mithrillium is account bound but the Deldrimor Steel that it is refined into is not. So they do very much impact the economy. In fact, as mentioned above, they are nearly the only way one can make any money by crafting. Nearly every MMO has time gated crafting (I’m sure there are some that don’t) it’s a common practice that does not punish players, it adds value to higher level crafting professions.

OP my suggestion if you want to play it casually is just make sure to deposit materials while you play. For now, check the amounts each day and craft any time gates that you can. After awhile you’ll know your pace and you can craft every other day, once a week, whatever works for you. It’s usually safe to craft any time gated material you can if you intend to make Ascended/Legendary items. If you don’t use it, you can always sell it for good money later.

I would love for Ascended gear to be A LOT faster to make. With Raids in the near future and the indication that Ascended will be more or less needed, it should take less time then it currently does. There is no need for 24 hours per Spool of Thick Elonian Cor or Spool of Silk Weaving Thread, which if you do purely with crafting you can expect to take 36 days. That’s over a month for a suit of armor, if you choose to buy the mats it somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 gold.

Back when Ascended armor was new and shiny I get the reason for time gating, it was an accomplishment to have a full set but now with raids coming within the next couple weeks it’s becoming more or less mandatory. For anyone who wants to run raids on a regular basis it will become a requirement, because it is essentially replacing Exotic gear as the “common gear” there is no need for the repulsive time gate involved.

I suggest leaving a gate if it is really that important which I don’t believe to be true because anyone with gold or a Credit Card can buy a set of Ascended Armor or Weapons. So for the sake of argument, cut the grind in Half, allow for two spools to be created per day If it was cut in half that’s still 18 days for a full set.

Personally I think they should get rid of the Time Gate completely, the moment the mats became available for purchase is the moment the time gate became pointless. I know some will not like the zero time gate suggestion so that is why I suggested half above.

I also am aware that by Taking away or reducing the time gate that it will devalue the Mats, I don’t see this as a problem because the gear is quickly becoming necessity so it make sense that it becomes more common for players to acquire at increased rates or becomes more affordable for purchase. Players will have mat’s needed for Legendary that they can start using as a form to bring in Currency.

Time gates only work when everyone is restricted to time gates, when you allow for the gate to be circumvented with currency or RL money it becomes pay to win.

You won’t be set behind. If you’re worried, you can buy those items off the TP. I would not worry about ascended armor as it still isn’t worth it. The only reason I crafted them was to reduce the sets of armor that I had stored in the bank since I could now swap them between characters.

maybe this is a dumb question, but why are the parts of ascended gear account bound, but the final version sellable? doesnt that negate the reason for making them account bound to begin with? Just seems kittened is all.

I’m sorry, but I simply don’t agree one bit. Punishing players that want to craft for themselves is exactly what it does, and there are plenty of better ways to make crafting more profitable. Or, better yet, harvesting the raw materials yourself is an excellent way to make gold. The removal of timegating would definitely help increase demand for them, too.

It does occur to me that it would be nice if timegated materials could build up. As in, every day you log in gives you a “charge” for the time-gated material. If you make one of the material each day, then you won’t notice the difference. If you log in, but don’t make the material, then it gets saved for another day.

To avoid it undermining itself entirely, it would only work for recipes that you have unlocked and it would have to have a cap on how high it could stack. Something like 10-30.

The general idea would be that if you are active, but for some reason don’t have time to track down the materials and craft every day, you can play catch up later.

Or words to that effect.

I would be okay with this, I suppose. Might not be ideal, but it’s certainly much better than the mess we have currently.
