First, Because of all the nerfs already I’ve basically finished all the content in less than a week.
With the exception of a few more masteries. Don’t ask for easier mobs or easier events, learn your class, learn how to move, stop ruining the game for higher skilled players. Run in a group if you really need too. Join a guild, do ANYTHING just stop asking that this gets easier.
Second, stop running your mentor tag and your commander tags if you dont know what you are doing. I just did Dragons Stand with 5 other commanders that had no idea what to do and attacked the invincible spitfire for roughly 5 minutes. While the people onmy tag laughed and did the escort.
Third, Yes, i agree. HoT is difficult. But where is the fun in something you can solo? or rush through? In HoT (not including tyria) Im already 40+ just playing running around with guildies.

If you are 40+ by now, you either played 16 hours per day since release or you did extensive CoF/Cursed Shore farm. Perhaps even both. And please tell me how you completed all the content of HoT? I have 4000+ hours spent in GW2 and I am far, far from completing all the content. How do you define content?

And as for skill. So far they nerfed HP required for elite spec from 400 to 250. So you have to do 15 less skill challenges in HoT zones to be done with maxing your elite spec. Please tell me, how does begging on map chat for help and then zerging the event an indication of skill? With 5 people you can 1,1,1,1,1 those skill challenges to death. Defeating Liadri on hard mode could be a skill. Doing high level fractals might be skill. Perhaps raid will be about skill. But discuss about those specific things when Arena will try to balance their difficulty level. When in 7 months you will decide to level your mesmer alt and find no people wanting to leave their event trains to help you defeat a hard-to-reach skill challange, will your overcome this problem with your skill? Well, maybe social skill? Try to pretend on the map chat that you are a girl in real life, maybe this will help. Skill.

MMO are MULTIPLAYER games, and they are such for a reason. Guild Wars 1 and 2 are also special in that there is much more care put on the Competitive and Cooperative side of things. So yeah, about people complaining being unable soloing everything, why are you even playing an mmo?
There is no mmorpg where the end game content is a cakewalk: what would be the point of it then?
I agree with also everything else you said too.

I am at 35+ hero points after the patch yesterday, my account is probably a month old and I have played around a total of 15 hours from Friday to Sunday on the hot expansion. On the weekdays I barely have time to hopefully get on good days about 6 world boss kills, I have yet to step into Verdant Brink since Sunday. Also I have yet to step into any dungeon in GW2, other than soloing Arah for the personal story

You are clearly over exaggerating.

Well designed MMO is where group content is properly incentivized and organised. An example of such content is a dungeon. 5 people join a team using some LFG tool with a common goal of killing the final boss. I could say that event trains are also an example. This works and is usually fun for everyone involved.

Arbitrary placed skill challanges in the open world with gate access to core gameplay mechanic are an annoyance, not properly designed group content. Standing in front of a HP challange and spamming map chat begging for help is not an example of good side of multiplayer games.

So, just to clarify, you rushed the content, used exploits to get to 40+, had no rl at all since launch, and now you’re here moaning?

It’s sad that you rushed though so much that you failed to see the real problems with the maps and HP’s etc, which is that having to solo a champ mob (for instance) isn’t that much fun on certain classes with a timer involved, and standing at a HP waiting or calling for 30+ minutes for anyone to come help whilst you burn through boosters isn’t much fun either.

And of course comm and others will tag up, not all will know what they are doing but at least they are trying- rather than stand there and laugh at them for 5 minutes whilst doing what needed to be done. Perhaps next time try sharing your knowledge rather than being a kitten?

Multi-player means more then one person playing at the same time. It’s no where in the name says grouping.

Also open world pve is not end game content, dungeons, fractals, raids, masteries, legendary etc, is end game content.

Also lowering the HP needed to unlock my spec did not make the content easier it allowed me to spec the way I wanted to.

You are 35+ on old-world mastery track. People do that fast by farming CoF or trains in zones like Cursed Shore. This is an exploitive mechanic (though I did not used the word “exploit”, its 100% legit) which does not translate into normal gameplay. Hell, in many MMO-s this would be nerfed 2 hours after launch or not present in the first place. For example if you did lots of gold and farmed your legendaries by heavy participation in SW chest farms, you did that by exploiting a weakness in game design. But Arena did not nerfed that because I think they thought that if someone wants to farm like that than let them do so. And as for mastaries track. Just go to the new jungle zones and start doing normal event chains without looking on reddit for some elusive secret spot which grants bajillion XP per hour (which again as I stated, is an exploitive mechanic). Then see how many levels you will gain over the next few days.

I retract my post, I was certain that he was speaking in regards to hero points he had extra… I would have never imagined it would be capable for someone to go 40 over the limit used for masteries as that is extremely over the top for less than a week time frame. I am at currently at level 5 just with boss runs, also not complaining that masteries are a grind.

40+ what? hero points or mastery levels? I assume you talk about mastery level. If you are 40+ mastery in HoT zones alone, than since release all you do is sleep and train events in HoT. Or there is some exploitive mechanic out there which I did not heard about yet (bugged adventure reward or something like that). It is like hearing a complain from a speed-runner who completes Skyrim in 1 hour that there is not enough content in the game.

Stop ruining the game for people who just want fun. There’s enough group content in this game (fractals, dungeons, world bosses, meta events, raids soon), a huge part of the open world maps should stay soloable. Great post. I don’t want everything nerfed into the ground…..but I hope Anet can find a happy medium on the difficulty level. This game has always been geared more toward casual and less than hard core players…..so I am not surprised that they are adjusting things towards the majority of the player base.

If it is too easy for some obsessed hard core player…..there are plenty of other games out there that will have all the grind and toughness that could ever possibly be wanted by such obsessed game addicts.

While I do know some “higher skilled players”, most of these self proclaimed “higher skilled players”, especially those that point it out in their own posts……are nothing more than no lifers who can commit just about every waking hour to the game.

It’s not because of the nerfs that you already finished the dlc. It is because arenanet made ls 3 + feature pack and priced it at 45E. Don’t blame the players for the lack of work of arenanet. for one thing, if you already completed all of HoT, why do you care if they now make it easier? your done right? But all i read in this thread is complaining that some folks are scarred that they will not the only <insert elite class> around for awhile. They need that validation to make themselves look important.

Its like the old GW1 days, when people would find a farming spot, farm it for days on end making millions, then cry to anet to nerf it so no one else can make money and they can have 1000x the money as anyone else. This is a prime example of kitten…

The funny thing about the OP’s post is that at release it didn’t take much more than a week to get 100% map completion and there is far more in Vanilla GW2 than in HotS GW2. And that was playing 10+ hours a day.

How does it make you bad for not spending as much time as you do on this game? You’re not a better player for spending more of your life on this game. And on top of that you’re talking about PvE and rather boring PvE at that. It’s not that it’s difficult, it’s that it’s time consuming.

You’re not a “skilled” player for playing this game for 120 hours with no sleep, grinding away so you can show off your lv 80 mastery rank.

Btw, the only thing I think of when I see somebody with a lv 80 mastery rank from HoT is… wow, their whole life is spent in-game… thats kinda sad.

the problem for me is not that it is hard. i think for pve players, masteries and hard content was much needed and is good. but for wvw players the heropoint grind is tough.especially in wvw new builds and the elite specialisations are important, thats why grinding hard pve content is a pain. its doable of course and eventhough i hate pve, i have been grinding 3 elite specialisations so far….but id rather be playing wvw.

Ok, what is this trick you are doing to get 88 mastery in HoT; I chained events there, did as many as I could but that gave me only 1 level after 6 hours. W/e. I did dragons stand 2x yesterday with my birthday booster and got a whole 1/2 a level for that 4 hours of work. I tagged every mob I could and worked my butt off. So there has to be more to this than you are suggesting. That’s ok, people will figure out this loop hole out and spread it to the masses eventually so you can keep your little secret for now.

And yet the “nerfs” didn’t make getting masteries any easier. If OP is in fact “nearly done with everything” then the changes had nothing to do with it. Elite spec only takes 250 HP instead of 400? According to OP, he’s nearly done, which means he’s gotten all 400 hero points in maguuma anyway, so that nerf didn’t affect him. “But the individual hero points were easier because the itzel gas is gone” – OP claims to be nearly done, which means he MUST already have itzel gas mastery.
Face it Aeon, you ran out of content to do because YOU rushed your way through it, and now you’re trying to blame others for changes that don’t effect you. Get off your high horse.

Can you PLEASE stop.
First, Because of all the nerfs already I’ve basically finished all the content in less than a week.

Which is all I really needed to read.

The problem here, and with the MMO industry in general, is how many people seem to think that rushing content, spending far too much time in front of a game and attempting to tell others how better-skilled they are because they managed to get to a high level quickly.

An MMO that is well-designed and balanced gives something for everyone who plays the game – both casual players and people who rush to the top for whatever bizarre reason of their own (Guild Wars did this brilliantly, by the way. Guild Wars 2, not so much).

While ANet likes to tell us that the game is designed to encourage cooperation, the truth of the matter is that GW2 is designed so that, with the exception of dungeons, we need absolutely no-one else, and have no need to play with friends.

So it’s no wonder that people went into HoT and discovered that you can’t solo it, then became frustrated and annoyed. We are taught right from the start that in the GW2 world, we are on our own.

Then they threw HoT Mess at us. It feels very much like it was designed by a team who had never seen, let alone played, the core game (I really mean that, Devs). It does, in fact, feel like a completely different game forced onto the existing one. A game that is specifically designed for people who want to rush through content and reach max level as fast as they can.

HoT is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a game for casual players. It’s a game exactly for people like Aeon – someone who’s going to spend 16+ hours in front of it, playing with the hardcore intent of caffeine addict truck driver trying to outrun the tachometers of Hell.

To all the whingers complaining about other whingers can you please stop. Accept that anet are in a better position than you to make AN INFORMED decision on an issue and move on.

Birthday Booster + Food + Utilitiy + firework + xp amulet infusion + killing mobs that have not been killed recently = about 5-9k xp per mob. however the catch is the more people who know about it though say forums instead of figuring it out makes the xp go down by alot so have fun

Anet… I absolutely love that mobs can one shot you, If you miss that predictable dodge. It is more than fine, that those yolo glass cannon berserker players die instantly!

Why am not more active in new maps? It’s definitely not because content is too hard. I’m focusing on halloween stuff for now and playing with my low-level friends who recently installed the game. Also I have incentive to be there, since new mastery system is encouraging that.

Well said, thank you.

And most complaining about the game being too hard are just plain bad at video games.
