Guild Wars 2

Before I begin please know that I am not calling anyone out directly.

I must say, I am shocked, appalled and wholly disappointed by the actions of the Guild Wars 2 community. What happened to the people I’ve heard stories about giving gifts to new players when the game went free-to-play? The players that answer questions in chat, help you find that vista, complete that jumping puzzle, etc.? I’m sure they’re still out there, however, they have been drowned out by the onslaught of seething hatred concerning Heart of Thorns.

The way people reacted to the changes presented in Heart of Thorns is just disappointing. When it comes to a community I have heard nothing but good things about, this has left a sour taste in my mouth. Instead of expressing your concerns with content, mechanics or anything else in a polite and professional manner, people have turned into a ravenous mob ready to tear Arena Net apart.

The expansion hasn’t even been out for a week and instead of giving Arena Net time to listen to your feedback and adjust things in hopes of sating the vicious appetites of the community they took to the forums, wrote unreasonable reviews and have given people an impression of the game that is unjustified and unwarranted.

Yes, there are changes, some of them people aren’t going to like. However, expecting Arena Net to read, plan and implement changes immediately is just ludicrous. Developing, tuning and releasing an MMO (or any game) isn’t easy. When you have thousands (if not millions) of people who play your game, everyone is going to have their own thoughts and opinions and while Arena Net wants to hear all of it, it takes time.

Unfortunately, at this point, the damage is done. The snap-judgement reviews and bile has been spewed across the internet and chats in game. I sincerely hope that Arena Net’s heart does not sink and falter because of this because they produce great games and content for those games.

In closing, I would like to ask that from this point forward that if you are dissatisfied with something related to Heart of Thorns to please be civil and take the appropriate recourse when expressing that issue.
