Q:
Tomes of Knowledge and Masteries
I’d assume they’d still give you SP, they aren’t getting rid of them. frankly, it sounds like with other things rewarding SP, we are likely to get more Tomes of Knowledge as rewards and such.
that’s actually a very good question…
Tomes didn’t give you SP directly, they gave you a level. The level is what gave you the SP. If 80s can’t gain levels then they can’t gain an SP by using a Tome.
Hopefully Rubi will answer this tomorrow.
What will happen to Tomes of Knowledge for lv 80 characters after HoT?
Will we still get SP from them?
Will they give us a level of mastery?
Will they give us a mastery point?I’m hoping they’ll give us a level of mastery and a mastery point to replace the exp level and skill point. I expect they’ll just become useless for lv 80’s though.
Any thoughts on this?
That’s a very good question. I mean they’re currently giving us them for the daily login rewards, in PvP tracks and so on, I hope they won’t become useless* in the future.
*As in useless for those of use who aren’t planning on making any further new characters. At the moment they’re another skill point, at least. My dream would be at least a skill point.
I doubt they will give us mastery progress though; they don’t want someone popping a few hundred of these to unlock everything on day one and then complaining that there’s nothing to do.
From the blog post:
Because the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries. This means characters that have reached level 80 will no longer gain skill points through leveling. Skill points will be added as rewards across high-level content to offset this change.
So I’d assume the Tomes are here to stay, likely rewarded more often as rewards rather than through levels.
Stack up on them – there’s a chance they’ll give mastery points.
im betting they will function the same as skill point scrolls for level 80 characters (only level up pre 80 characters)
Gates Of Madness
Jewelcrafting to 500!
Oooh, I hadn’t considered this! Guess I should start stockpiling a second stack of Tomes just in case.
Scroll of Knowledge = grant skill point only.
Tome of Knowledge = grant level up (hence also skill point)
Archeage = Farmville with PK

Actually, that blog posts doesn’t address the Tomes concern in any way – quite the opposite, this part is what made OP to raise the question in the first place.
OP is not asking if there will be other sources of SP. He is asking if Tomes will be changed to give SPs (or mastery xp) after Mastery changes, or if they will become useless for characters that are already 80.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It is logical to assume they will continue the way they do now. So they will grant “level ups” (one level and one skill point) for characters below level 80 and “skill ups” for level 80 characters. Similarly I expect my skill scrolls to continue to work. If either of these is not the case then they will give us plenty of warning. Or there will be (forum) war!!!111!!11111!!!one!
I assume they will not grant any progress towards masteries as “the Mastery training bar completely replaces the experience bar, players who’ve reached level 80 will no longer gain levels but will instead train Masteries” so I believe it will be completely separate system that you switch over to from the experience system (in much the same way that sPvP or WvW rank are separate). I expect they will add “sips/flasks/jugs/potions of mastery” to go alongside the various potions of Karma, PvP, WvW and so on.
