As a returning casual player with just an hour per day to play, I can’t help to think that HoT completely ruined the bit of skill diversity the game had. Try to build a class without the elite spec and you don’t stand much of a change in most pvp fights as the elites are way more powerful.

For me GW2 has always been far less diverse than GW1 (which I played hapily for 8 years due to its endless combinations), but with HoT they even reduced this flexibility further …
Apart from this, HoT forces me to put a lot of time into farming those stupid additional hero points before even being able to roam around in wvsw or pvp (which is, for me, the USP of GW)

Any thoughts? Or am I the only one who has this feeling?

PvP as I said.

WvW is just a numbers game and builds don’t matter there anyway.

Use WvW to unlock Hero Points, if you so desire.

Lol. And all answers are like go farm hp, pvp doesn’t need elites and so on. And answer for robertjan.2197 : totally agree. Diversity in builds is significantly less. +I wasn’t very diverse before HoT but now….

Can’t disagree with OP in most cases. For majority of professions elites are a must to stay competitive, hell for some they actually make the profession playable again (necro!).

Even before elite specs every profession had at least one traitline that was considered mandatory if you wanted to be competitive. All that has changed is the mandatory traitline is now called elite and gives you a cool profession icon.

Unless you’re a warrior. Then Defense is still the mandatory traitline, with Berzerker being a very close second.

And thats the main issue with Gw2 compared to Gw1 and some other games. They limit the choices already with the new skill mechanism GW2 is using, with the elite specs however there is no choice at all. Apart from that it takes a freaking long time to unlock them for a casual player like myself, but without many clases are useless.

Does anyone know which classes are still as powerful without their elite traitline as they are with?

I think until this latest patch changed how Adrenal Health worked, Warrior was one of them. Now, though, the ability to spam bursts as a Berzerker is even more essential to Warriors. And non-primal bursts like Sword and Rifle are garbage due to the heavy restrictions on them (Rooting and duration on Sword’s flurry, and rooting+cast time on Killshot.).

With the True Shot nerf, Guardians are just as useless as Dragonhunters as they are base.

Yes it’s true. It was a problem pre-hot. Not a reason to make it even worst.

Part of the problem is the fact Anet did not completely unlink PvP from PvE in regards to skills/traits (have completely separate CDs and baseline dps specification, etc.). If they had the balancing of skills and traits would have been so much simpler and balanced mitigating the latest elite specs OP’ness.

Lol, Anet just get rid of hero points. The constant kittening from players who spend 1 hour in the game is simply annoying. People are calling anything with a progression system a grind. I hate how anet pays attention to players that only play an hour a day vs the people who spend tons of money and time on the game. in a couple of months all the mobs in the maguma jungle will be nerfed into critters.

Honestly, it doesn’t seem that much different than from before elite specs. In PVP there was usually only one or two builds you could run on a class anyway.

Good news is, as more elite specs get released there will (hopefully) be more build diversity.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Absolutely agree. I am lucky, I happen to love my Eles Elite spec…but all my other classes became totally unplayable to me due to lack of variety and the “best and only valuable build” just being either super boring to play or against my personal playstyle. There is now one, MAYBE two builds that are valuable per class and that’s just no fun. And why?! There’s no good reason for it. At all. Sad.

Ya but that’s the thing. We used to have some build diversity and HoT was suppose to bring more build diversity, but they just replaced old build with new more powerful one, making the old ones near obsolete and not increasing build diversity at all. That was a mistake if you ask me.

You can literally finish an elite spec in a few hours after entering the jungle. Now you are just QQing. If you don’t know what you are doing look up a guide for christ sake.
