Took a break from GW2 awhile ago around when HoT was announced, came back just recently. Thought about buying HoT today as I remembered hearing something about getting a character slot around when i took a break.

“For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account”

Getting the same content as a new player gets, but i paid more overall for it in the end. Awhile ago before i quit i heard about the free character slot, and how they were using it to make up for the veteran players that had to essentially rebuy the base game. That slot almost made the expansion worth the price for the little content it really gives, and they had to go ahead and remove it as well.

Actually they’re just doing what WoW and EQ are doing, because they have to stay competitive. The more barriers to entry you erect for new players, the less new players you get.

If you think not getting more new players is better for veterans, I’m not sure what to tell you.

if that slot all by itself almost made the expansion worth it, then obviously it was a ‘good deal’ now wasn’t ’it.

I suggest you check the list of authorized dealers. They frequently have the HoT on sale. Or you can wait for the next expansion and see if HoT is folded in and can get it for no extra cost.

Wait, I’m confused … if you don’t own the expansion and haven’t played it, how do you know that it gives “little content”???
