Trahearne first Reaper?
rytlock also uses OH pistol.
Marjory seems more likely. She’s been training hard with her sister’s sword and has a darker heart thanks to her sister’s death.
Or there may not be a “first” since the Reaper is just a refinement of Necromancer, whereas Revenant is brand new and needed an explanation for its introduction.
Given Caladbolg’s origins and the nature of Trahearne getting it, I’m inclined to stick with assuming that’s more symbolic than having anything to do with reapers (let alone any discussions if anyone on the team had even thought of greatswords on necros back when the original story was written). It seems more to me that Marjory’s representative of the necromancer HoT additions just as Rytlock is for the Revenants.
I agree that it’s more likely Marjory would be it. Caladbolg already has its weird unique skill set of different classes skills, so I doubt they’d go changing that when there’s already a better candidate. What better person to choose for a reaper than a woman with a ghost-possessed sword?
Fun fact: Regardless of profession, any sylvari player character progressing through his/her personal story gets to wield saladballs instead of treeman.
Its a sylvari thing not just a necro thing.
When a player of another race progresses through the story, thats when treeman wields it.
Marjory is going to be the first reaper.
Marjory really would have fit better for a summoner/ritualist sort of thing… :-/
Kind of a missed opportunity.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
picking up a hoe doesn’t make you a pimp
It might even be that they intended necromancers to use greatsword before launch, and then changed their minds during development.

That’s not entirely accurate. Sylvari characters do get to use Caladbolg in two story instances, but it’s eventually given to Trahearne, regardless of which race you’re playing.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
As all we know, Trahearne is a Necromancer. And after Claw island, he use Caladbolg, that’s a Greatsword. So, is he the first Reaper of HoT, similar to Rytlock is the first Revenant?
Trahearne is
1. a wimp (who doesnt do anything unless his mother tells him, or you tell him)
2. rarely uses NECROMANCER abilities. (once…i’ve only seem him summon the undead ONCE)
3. his GS has LIGHT abilities. liek a mesmer.
Reaper is
1. epic and deadly
2. darkness abilities
3. a necromancer
marjory is a necromancer. and a possible Reaper. she matches the 3 things i listed for reaper.
Trahearne matches 0/3 of them. in fact he’s so anti necro he matches -3/3 of them.
so NO.
in fact. lets make it -4/3 cause he’s so anti necro that his whole point of being is to destroy the undead of orr completely and bring life.
while that might be the “good” thing to do. its not what a necro would do. a necro would see the appeal to orr and try to use the undead there to increase their own power.

artistic license, an interesting term to read up on.
I see Trahearne falling to the dragon’s corruption in HoT and becoming a significant story mode boss. The dragon will put extra effort into converting the leader of the Pact.

Then you fight him again at the Ring of Fire, and in Guild Wars 3, some Quaggan shows up with Caladbolg because reasons.
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.

And proclaims himself Pact Commander.
I was doing the personal story on an alt and noticed Trahearne throwing smokey energy bolts that looked and sounded like necro staff #1 attacks. Later he is given Caledbolg, a greatsword. I know his Gs attacks aren’t the same as a Reapers, but prototypes usually differ from production models. Am I off base?
