Transfer characters from GW2 to HOT?
When you bought HoT you should of added it to your current account. If you didn’t and instead made a new account you will have to get with support and have them close the new account and issue you a new key to add to your current account.
you dont transfer anything. its automatically linked to your account. you play the same characters but to use elite specs you have to use mastery points to unlock the skills for each chacter ( if you want to use that spec)

To correct this… Mastery Points do not earn Elite Specs, they feed Masteries. Hero Points earned by doing Hero Challenges earn Elite Specs.
simplesimon may be correct if the OP has already added the HoT key to a new account instead of the existing account. If he’s doing research prior to buying, or if he has not figured out how to get to the HoT maps, the answer is this:
Once you buy HoT and get the key, log into your existing account on the GW2 site. Add the HoT key. Then (or if you’ve already done that), go into the Story Journal Page on the Hero Panel (H, in game). Below Living World Season 2 will be a listing for Heart of Thorns. Activate the Heart of Thorns Story, and follow the steps until you get a character to Verdant Brink, the first Magus Falls (HoT) Zone. Once you’ve done that you can take any other character on your account to Verdant Brink through a portal in the Silverwastes, or run them through the story if you want to.
