So yes… trying to get into a DS map with population.
Tried 12 times now, on 12 different periods this week alone… No luck…
I’m trying to unlock commanders stats. -Exotics- and I need 150 x2 tokens to do so. Even getting the tokens when the map is done is not guaranteed and I’m starting to get annoyed with the fact I cannot find a map. I try taxi’s, be in the map before reset and nothing happens…. All maps with 5 maybe 15 ppl…. The 1 decent active map is full before you can say “wtf?”
I wasted quite some playing time saying no to guildies for dungeon and fractal runs, just to be able to get in a map and it is wrecking my positive experience with gw2.
This map is to cumbersome, teh events will not function with 6 or 10 ppl in the map
, and yes, you can do your best to find the 6 hidden pods but I cannot be bothered anymore.
I have 173 laurels, just make ’m available from a specialized HoT laurel vendor. All HoT event maps are now a waste of time, well at least for me. The only 3 things worthwhile are raids, masteries and specialisations.
All collections are uncompletable due low amounts of ppl in new maps, except in primetime when I need to feed my children and put ‘m to bed. outside these time windows it’s a turning into a completely useless part of the game.

Use the LFG to taxi into a map right after the reset.
^ if you go before meta and join a squad you will be able to follow the commander to a new map and people will join any map with at least 1 commander. I usually jump to the map right on the time the instance kicks everyone and use LFG, have never missed one yet.
I feels your pain, DS is a map designed for players without IRL responsibilities. It’s nearly impossible to go into a DS map, CASUALLY, right before or after the start time and get into an organized map.
You go in before the timer, you get placed into a low population map, so even if you squad up, you’ll still get put into a low population map just with the same people.
It’s real crap if you can’t play during any of the prime time hours.
The events themselves are a drool, 1-1.5 hours of 111111, change target, 111111, change target, etc. All that running around seems completely pointless, they could’ve just put us all in a big room and had the enemies funnel in, and it’d still be the same 111111, change target, 111111 change target, etc.
the commander idea could use some work; no one wants to do anything without an arbitrary beacon to follow, despite knowing how to play and what to do!
maybe there ought to be an indicator of how many players are present and how many are actually participating. it could enourage others to play without feeling like they’re so alone, broadcasting to everyone the fact that they’re helping, and slowly but surely the snoozers would add on to the participators

The tag isn’t there to motivate people, not in DS. I mean, it does that too, but it’s more than a beacon, it’s a way to quickly head count how many are in each lane so extras can shift to lanes in need and also a way to quickly sort out the boss killers from the zerg at the towers.
Also as noted above forming a squad in the 5 to 10 minutes before map reset is a good way to make sure a large hunk of people interested in an organized run can get to the same map. Then people leave squad once taxied in and go form squads for each lane.
My usual times to go to DS on those days when I do a run or two tend to be in any of the cycles from 1:30 pm eastern to maybe 7:30 pm. Not quite prime time but I don’t recall that I’ve ever had a map be empty or fail the meta in those times.

That’s pretty much NA prime time bud, at least the first half of it. It’s a few hours before the daily reset (players trying to get stuff done before reset logs in) and a few hours after daily reset (players trying to get stuff done as soon as possible once dailies reset). You’re pretty much playing during the first half of NA prime time. Probably why you don’t have the empty map issue.
Prime times are pretty much around and during dinner time in the 4 different zones, NA, EU, AUS/OxC, SEA. There’s not a big gap between the different zones, only about 2 hours. But I play on NA servers (live in the US) but can only really log in during EU prime times, so I don’t see much action on NA servers. Which is sad, for me that is.

Well, it seems we’ve identified the problem, at least potentially.
Hang out in an instance just before the map auto closes. Once you get moved, use LFG to find a map that’s organizing if you didn’t land in one.

You’re probably right. I just don’t think of early to mid afternoon as “prime time” since anyone with a 9 to 5 job won’t be playing then and I grew up in the TV era when “prime time” was in the evening after dinner. Given the quote about needing to use prime time to put the kids to bed, I was operating on the assumption that the poster got the same connotations as me. Eh, semantics
Seems you arent aware of the fixed timer:

Bookmark it, then you will always know when the next DS is available.
I understand the OP’s frustration. Part of the problem is we do not need to over-load a map. I do DS a lot during the average NA “work day” around mid-day. We’ll have about 15-20 in each lane max. The events don’t scale up horrifically, and I even got the achievement for slaying the Mouth in under 20 minutes during non-prime time on a map that had probably 75 people total working on the meta (given the counts from the lanes and factoring in those that don’t squadjoin). Usually we only need about 3 burns on the islands. It’s gotten so I don’t like doing prime-time because the number of adds in the lanes is just stupid and the legendary bosses in the lanes take forever to kill. It is possible to get a blighting tower boss down with 5-8 people (I usually pick the boss group, so personal experience), and smaller zergs around the towers again mean fewer adds for them to run through.
We’re making it harder on ourselves than it need be—both in terms of trying to get people into maps before, and scaling the difficulty during the events.
You only need about 15 people a lane but these commanders seem to think if the map is not full it is an insta fail, this even happened to me on the kitten Karka queen where a com would not start without a full map xD
And when a com fails after ignoring their team they just tag down and hide xD
Best part about DS map get dc and missing the event i managed to get there at the start of HOT one time got to almost at the end and then dc and tadaa the event is over when i get back in so i never tried that crap again.

I used to play this map for hours when it first came out. Now that it’s mostly dead when I play, I don’t bother with it any longer.
Of course, most of the HoT events and maps are going this direction. Given a few more months…well, good luck doing anything.
