It’s obvious what I meant, and that toy being in game just further proves how easy it would be for them to be implement them into the game.

Seriously though the absurdity of not having them has been eating at me since gw2 launched.

We have…
one handed maces, two handed maces(hammers)
one handed swords, two handed swords(greatsword)
one handed axes…. and then we trail off into the other weapons.

Is there some lore reason why two handed axes are not used as weapons in the guild wars universe? Also since this section of the forums is for the expansion and for things to come, it seemed a good place to toss the idea out there.

Sadly they have already made it clear there’s not going to be any actual new weapons this expansion, there might be in the future though, a lot of people have asked for two-handed axes. (And makes sense, when you look at the warrior profession image)

Hammer are not “two handed maces”, but ignoring that, what can you do with a two-handed axe that you cannot with a greatsword?

cleave harder, more forceful blows considering the weapon is top heavy meaning more force is in a tighter impact spot also the ability to tear shields away by using the gap between the blade and shaft to grip the top of the shield.

Which is why they should just add two-handed axe skin in a GS weapon set.

Less work.

5x Warrior, 5x Ranger, 4x Elementalist, 4x Engineer,
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant

It would be great if they added a 2hander axe and some additional weapons.

not at all easy as weapons are placeholders for skills in GW2. Having a skin already in game barely has any effect here.

There are 16 weapons in the game, not counting underwater. 5 of these weapons are currently used by no more than two professions.
Let’s use the stuff we have before we start adding even more to the table.

Now that’s some advanced thinking. I like to two handed dagger idea. I think the auto attack would be a lot like paddling a canoe lol

This ^.

They need to bring allot of the existing weapons up to par before adding new ones.

As for new ones they could add, yes great axe is one.

They could also add the whip, and some type of polearm or spear for use on land.

Now not to be a negative nancy or anything but how the hell does someone one hand a bow? I could understand if you said wrist mounted Crossbow or a 1 handed crossbow but a one handed bow is a very strange concept unless the characters you are playing have a second mini arm on each arm.

i imagine that, similar to revenants filling in the ‘missing gap’ for soldier professions that great-axes may be added in the next expansion for professions. the problem is, who will be using it apart from warrior?

Well I could see a necro rocking the whole executioner theme (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Executioner_Axe_Toy)

An axe would probably end up being a skin for the hammer or greatsword, the fighting style in the gw2 system wouldn’t have a big enough difference to make it a completely different weapon.

But really lets spread out the existing very different weapons before adding weapons that are similar to existing ones.

We even have the title to fit that role.

I can totally see that as a norn with a twisted sense of humor too. he beheads his opponents, keeping their heads to mount on his wall and reanimates the bodies to act as distractions. whenever he’s ‘out hunting’ it’s not always game he’s after…

Rangers, maybe guardians, and necromancers. Reverants, and warriors as you said.

That’s 5 professions, which is more than rifles, longbows, or shortbows have. I’d say that sounds fine.

They could literally give it to just warrior and rev and that’s already on par with other weapons.

Also, forgot torch and shield. Three for each. Honestly, great-axe won’t be any issue. MOST weapons have 2-4 professions, and great-axe could fit at 2-5 without much issue.

Yea. 2 handed dagger could go in 2 directions.

1) dual dagger that some skills can combine both dagger into one single weapon. Either chained or double blade…

2) single dagger with skin that mixed with some martial art. Palm strike, Iron fist etc.

Yes add two-handed Great-Axe please and well try to pretend that it’s not exactly like the greatsword fundamentally as far as skills and usage are concerned. Or, much like the Slingshot, just make it as a skin and flag it as a Great sword, since, mechanically, the would be absolutely identical. Mmkay thank. This is kinds like the ’give Rangers Pistols and/or rifles nonsense that comes up every two weeks tbh.

is the sword exactly like the axe? i didn’t realize you could interchange swords and axes and play exactly the same way. sarcasm

regardless i would think they’d put in enough differences to make it noticeable.

I don’t see the problem, and the toy abilities for the executioner’s axe would be pretty sweet if they just took it out of toy mode and slapped some damage co-efficients onto each ability.

Even without that, having some two handed axe SKINS for GS or hammer would be sufficient enough to at least stomp out the ridiculous concept that there are no two-handed axes used at all in the entire universe of tyria. It would have to be more than one skin though, give us some variety.

Yes Carlin, that’s exactly whit I’m saying. In the context of the function of how GW2s weapons work, a 2h Axe would bring absolutely nothing to the table that Hammer or Greatsword don’t already provide. Except maybe “hey that looks cool” which is why I propose a skin but flagged as a GS or hammer, similar to the slingshot/short bow deal. This is no different that requests for crossbows, or the please for ranger to get pistols or rifles. Use you very matter and plz explain, in the context of GW2’s skills, kitten would these additions actually ADD to the existing skill set. And Noe contrived skills a cool animations won’t cut it.

Thats not entirely true.

Greatswords are used as slashing and stabbing weapons and hammers are used as crushing and smashing weapons.

mechanicaly Greatswords and hammers are about either their AOE damage or their AOE CC. An Axe could be about single target high damage or AOE bleeds for a warrior for example.

Great axes are more about chopping and possibly about ripping away defenses. It could literally go any way because Great Axes have alot of opportunities plus you cant have a great sword and great hammer and not have a great axe.
