Types of masteries!
I hope for something like: Exposed Weakness (Enemy Type)
Like in 10 tiers of mastery, 1 gives 10% 5 gives 50% 10 gives 100%
Every tier will make you deal 10% of your normal damage to that monster.
So once 100% you do your normal damage against them.
Why I’d like this, so the first time I encounter some dinosaur I’ll be crushed to pieces making me feel weak! :P

I hope the masteries will be more active than flat bonuses. I think id prefer a skill I could slot that would enable me to actually target and remove a piece of protection an enemy has.
Say an enemy mob has 4 "armor points’ one on each cardinal direction while fighting it. If im fighting on his left i could rip off that armor point long enough to deal some really heavy damage to the softer hide underneath it.
Or maybe certain large mobs will have targetable “weak points” that are normally impossible to damage. But people with mastery could work together to “rip off” the covering for a short time. (Imagine four people with hooks and wires ripping off a dragons scales so that meleers could start stabbing it.)

I would like to see some kind of a mobility-style mastery, such as rock climbing, or parkour, so we can get up to those hidden areas ArenaNet were talking about at PAX.
and I would like to see features in areas which make them impassable, such as being unable to pass a desert in the Maguuma Wastes because its too hot, or later in the game, when we get to go to colder areas, an area which is impassable due to extreme cold or snow storms, so i’d like masteries to negate that effect such as desert training, or tundra training.
Ok seriously speaking now… Climbing would be my greatest wish.
Masteries like these would open possibilities for combat positioning.
Like fighting a world boss with a weak spot above his head or back and the only way to get a clear shot to those areas would be from the top a hill (or tree) accecible only through climbing mastery. But in order to get the boss in range (or to lower his defences, other masteries would be required.
That would be a whole new level of trinity
Exploration Masteries:
- Feature of Climbing
- Feature of Crouching
- Feature of Deep Diving to reach Depths way deeper than ever before
- Feature of Gliding (Hang Gliders)
- Feature of Riding (Mounts)
- Feature of Teleportation (cosmetical to make you using WPs and Asura Gates look more awesome with special animations and maybe to unlock for you special WPs/Asura Gates also too)
Language Masteries
- Itzelean
- New Krytan
- Old Krytan
- Dwarvish
- Canthan
- Elonian
ect.
Combat Masteries
- Predictions (makes Attacks better visible also when fighting other playes)
- Climbing on Enemies (Dragons Dogma FTW)
Body Masteries
- Heroic Movements
- Jumping Power
- Endurance Training
- Underwater Traits Unlock (if just not direct Underwater Masteries if ANet should completely rework the Trait System with Masteries better)
Masteries are a System, that would provide alot of potential for futurous Character Progression
So I’m assuming everyone in this thread so far overlooked the mastery IGN stealthily revealed in their article.
Go down to the gliding mastery image and scroll all the way to the right. There’s your “climbing” / positioning related mastery right there. Or at least one, no one says there can’t be multiple.

Its not literal climbing, no, but it serves the same purpose of getting you from one level of an area to another beyond your normal jumping ability.
Persuasion/Deception/Intimidation
A pseudo-language mastery as a re-imagining of the personality system. Mastery works similarly to other games with such systems. At certain breakpoints it opens up content that was otherwise unavailable with some overlap.
For instance, all three would have some passive mercantile benefit (merchants pay more for junk) and each would unlock different subsets of content. Persuasion might unlock some royal/noble related stuff, Deception might unlock some more spy related things, and intimidation might unlock some more underworld related stuff.

1. Double jump/Tripple jump (like DJ in WildStar)
2. Diving sport games (41 places with googles already in game)
3. Skills blocking enemies regeneration/skills allowing interrupt and knockback enemies with immunity (most champions, elite, some veterans).
