Just another complaint in the sea of anger.
If you were confused by the title what I am saying is this: If the expansion came with a free slot (which it should) with the game and not as a pre-order bonus, the ultimate edition is giving you cosmetic items (which a ton of people don’t care about) and $50 dollars worth of gems for $50. So if you are buying it thinking you are saving money… you aren’t.
This will only be a good deal if they do not include a slot to the expansion (again, as part of it like every time they added a class in GW1, and not a pre-order bonus).
When HoT was announced I was extremely happy. Then no new race (tengu!!!), or weapons (polearms on ground!!!!) so I was a bit bummed but still planned on dishing out for the best package to show that I still support them. But after this I won’t. I might get just the expansion and delete one of my toons for the revnant or I may just go play another mmo and just log in here for bonuses til they get their act together.

Actually this game is all about the cosmetic items, otherwise why get a legendary, new armor, or bother to mix and match armor, have a mini, buy anything from the gem store, or have weapon/armor skins at all???? Some people don’t care, very few I’d argue. The bulk of people like their character to look good!

The deluxe buyers pay more that $10 for the slot, so they somehow have to justify the value of the digital fluff to themselves.

And to those people it’s a non-issue so what’s the problem again?

Legendary has higher stats so there goes that one. And a title that everyone will have is not the same as armor skins. Many people buy minis just to auction them off later. I care about cosmetic to a point. All these items will be very easy to obtain and not tradeable. I’m sure there will be an option to upgrade to deluxe later on. My point still remains. IF you don’t care about cosmetic, or at least the cosmetic items included, and we ignore the slot, for reasons stated in original post; we are paying $50 for $50 in gems.

Legendary weapons have the same stats as Ascended weapons.

Legendary weapons have the same stats as Ascended weapons.
Legendary allows you to swap stats on-the-fly, which are equal to Ascended gear of the same stat type. That’s the only reason I crafted one.
Of course, now we find out that regular Ascended Weapons will be able to change stats using Skill Points, so…

Was an issue for me, and I was seconds from clicking to buy the ultimate myself. Anet goes and not only changes it’s long standing practice of new class=free slot, but breaks it in the most dirt bag way it can by explicitly designing the pricing tiers so that ultimate made most sense(also preselected) ….Yeah, I morally can’t support that, even before I knew they stealth changed the FAQ, shut down the forum for a day for a “bug”, and condensed every complaint thread they could into a quarantine thread……

Yeah, I can understand that. I just meant for the people who actually went ahead and purchased the game.

The inclusion of an Ultimate edition is pretty ridiculous. They should have done the following:
1. Reduce the price further of the base game down to $5 from $10/20 but remove the base from sale.
2. Buying the game from a local game store or the webpage would include HoT with the base game priced at $50 for the standard edition and $80 for the digital edition.
3. However existing users could upgrade their account from inside the game for $45 for the standard HoT upgrade and $75 for the digital edition. Saving $5 and the need of purchasing the base game again.
4. In the upgrade tab of the gemstore there would be a HoT Digital Upgrade option for accounts that only purchased the standard edition if they originally chose not to get the Digital edition, that would be priced at $30.
5. Instead of an Ultimate Edition that adds nothing but Gems, just have a special gemstore page only open to accounts that have upgraded to HoT that sells gems at a discounted price. But that would only be available for a couple of days in celebration of the pre-order and would eventually go away.
This way you’d have a simple option between two versions of the game, giving a great deal to new players while giving kitten discount to existing players. Plus you’d have people frantically buying gems and the pre-order during a short term sale.
