Underwater combat in HoT
I can’t help but feel they’re wanting to abandon underwater combat and exploration altogether. I consider that unfortunate, but I get the impression I’m in the minority on that one. I guess we’ll know how committed to it they are if the list of new Legendaries doesn’t include a spear, hapoon, and trident.
if it’s any consolation i’m in the minority too, waiting for something about underwater combat. even if it’s an underwater cave in the roots of the jungle… something… anything…
I don’t mind underwater stuff at all, I just want it to stay out of PvP, because it’s rather poorly balanced for that. Exploring underwater caves has always been a blast in this game and I hope it stays that way.
I really was sad to see underwater combat was removed from PvP and nearly removed from WvW. I wish they would do something to expand and make underwater combat more interesting.
Part of the problem is a lack of weapon choices. You get two, total, barring those with only one weapon choice. If they broadened the horizon weapon wise, and perhaps had some skills that changed functionality underwater (I love how mesmer’s moa morph turns into tuna morph) for example.
(Yes, I know some have changed, but not sufficiently imho)
And maybe even make some really interesting underwater areas. Say, an entire city with a raging war between krait and quaggan. A dungeon ruins exploring an ancient sunken city; things like that.
Ah well. As said before, I suspect they are reducing, rather than improving, the underwater experience. But one can hope!
Hm, I wonder what the Revenant’s underwater weapons and abilities will be?

I was just thinking.
What if they forget Revenant’s underwater skills? and then they postpone GW2:HoT release because they need to create the Revenant underwater skills? lol
And if they release without the underwater skills…
…how many days people would take to notice it?

About 15 minutes. Absolute max.
This would be noticed in beta anyway.
Underwater Combat needs a complete Rebalance for all Professions and it needs to receive finally its own underwater specific Traits!!
The Game should give each Character Trait Points for Land Traits, which are those, that we have now, as like also the same amount of points for Underwater Traits, which should be completely different ones, so that each Profession’s gameplay will feel different, while not loosing important key mechanics.
ANet should also rework all Skills, that currently aren’t useable under water to become useable under water by changing their design similar how Tornado becomes under water to Maelstrom.
All Skills in GW2 should functionaize exactly like this..so if a Skill can’t work like on Land in Water, the skill should change itself at the moment when you enter the water.
It can’t be any good game balancing at all, when Anet just lets this skill design massively influence the amount of skills a class can use under water, where certain classes are alot strogner affected from, than others, when all professions should have under water the same amount of utility skill options…
Thats one big flaw of ANets game design, that bugs me about underwater combat until today still and that until today ANet has nothing done about that, when they had plenty enough of chances with various balancing updates to do somethign about that.

I hope they will remove underwater combat (but not exploration). It has been filled with bugs and plagued by a huge lack of balance since release. It’s not really something worth using resources for.
I very much doubt that there will be any underwater combat.
I find it varies considerably by profession. I don’t see it as universally bad.
Mesmer I particularly dislike. Guardian is ok. Thieves are good (probably thanks to initiative meaning you can ignore uw skills you don’t like) and I like how engineer kits (apart from flamethrower of course) function essentially the same under water as they do above.
And ele is pretty good – possibly for having double the choices of other profs.
Warrior underwater is better than on land – a fact.

Arguably the grenade skills are better underwater. You cannot aim so well, but at least you won’t break your hand when auto-attacking.
ONLY 2 Underwater weapons for all proffs
yet they cant balance it.
hell they don’t seem to even try to balance it.
:( <<<< look im sad……………..

Definitely. I only recently discovered that one – last week – and have been playing around with it. I’d found the lack of auto-attack on grenades on land a bit annoying so had never even bothered to equip them underwater before.
