Does anyone have a complete list of the changes to crafting disciplines?

For example, Insignias have been changed completely. They now require patches of silk / wool / whatever which means you’ll need a lot of leather for your Armorsmith leveling from now on.

An Intricate Gossamer Insignia now needs the following additional things:

  • 10 Cured Hard Leather Squares
  • 1 Bold of Gossamer
  • 5 Spools of Gossamer Thread

You might think they would announce these rather big changes somewhere. Even the Wiki still has the old recipes. There might be other changes as well?

Actually they did mention this. I don’t recall if it was a blog, or one of the multiple posts they made before HoT release, but they specifically mentioned that insignias would use leather and cloth now, in order to even out supplies.

I’d really love to see that article. Do you remember where you read that? Any keywords I could google to find it?

Actually, they removed one bolt of gossamer. It now takes only four instead of five. But that doesn’t make up for the cost of the added leather and thread. Also, it now takes three hardened sections to make a square instead of only two, so 10 squares would take more time/gold than they did before even if the TP price had stayed the same.

Sorry you have it wrong – The actual amounts required for crafting all Masterwork, Rare and Exotic Insignia has been raised SIGNIFICANTLY.

The old recipe for a Rampager’s Intricate Insignia for example required:

5 Gossamer Bolts (refined from scraps)
5 Globs Ecto
20 Gossamer SpoolsThread
5 Powerful Venom

Total: 20 Spools Thread & 5 Bolts Gossamer

The new recipe requires:

5 Gossamer PATCHES
EACH patch requires 25 Spools Thread / 4 Gossamer Bolts / 10 Cured Leather
5 Powerful Venom
5 Globs Ecto

Total: 125 Spools Thread / 20 Gossamer Bolts / 50 Cured Leather

There seems to have been a collective amnesia in the community about the fact that that a further step has been added to the refining process and bolts now need to be refined into patches.

Crafting ALL masterwork and above Insignia now requires almost 5x the material costs than prior to the update and to add insult to injury, they forgot to add bank storage for the new patches.

You craft five patches at a time making the total cost 25 Spools Thread / 4 Gossamer Bolts / 10 Cured Leather not five times that.

Well spotted – Ignore all of my assumptions except that they forgot to add a bank storage tab for patches

Which I find utterly baffling. You craft them five at a time and use them five at a time to make one insignia. What is the benefit of that over crafting one (using the same mats) and using one to produce one insignia? All the introduction of the number “5” does is produce confusion and lead to people making the same mistake that Daroon did. I nearly made the same mistake myself, but double checked what was actually happening.

This is especially confusing when you get to ascended insignia, which require three Damask patches produced one at a time, unlike all the lesser recipes.

I agree with you 100%. I only figured it out myself when I accidentally ended up crafting 25 of them instead of the 5 I wanted.

Tangentially related, the number of Black Diamonds required to make an equisite jewel was changed from 2 to 1 very recently

It would be nice to have a list of these changes.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Actually, you do have a point, but only where ascended crafting is concerned. Here, they have just added 3 elonian squares to the cost of each insignia, while leaving the damask at the previous value. It was a straight increase, made to make ascended gear cost more. This at the same time where it has suddenly became more important (due to incoming raids) and also when Anet massively nerfed asended drop rates in fractals.

I’d really, really want to hear reason behind that one.

The cost of ascended insignia went up more than one might think if you look at everything that goes into it. The increase wasn’t as “straight” as it might appear at first glance.

“Just” three elonian squares? Elonian leather now costs more because it takes four thick sections to make a thick square instead of three. So, for the 150 thick squares needed to make three cords, you need 600 sections instead of 450. That mounts up quickly. A full set of armor requires six insignia, so the total number of thick sections is 3,600 — over 14 stacks!! — just for the added cords, plus the cost of all the lower-tier leather, the ecto, and the reagents that go into each square.

But the cost increase doesn’t end there. Each ascended insignia also requires a gossamer insignia, so we have to factor in the added costs to make those — more leather and more gossamer thread — as detailed earlier in the thread.

It’s kind of jaw-dropping when you pencil it all out.

Remember, Ascended is RECOMMENDED for Raids, but is NOT needed/required…they’ve already said you can be successful with only Exotic gear. Only psychophants will demand party members wear Ascended.

You have 2 options for the materials, either spend the gold(increased gold sink), or you actually farm the materials yourself(which isn’t that hard, only takes time).

I might be wrong here, but I suspect it’s one of the reasons this game has been known for poor rewards and continues down the same path of notoriety.

Don’t have a quote, but a guild mate said it was in response to the request to bring leather and damask more in line with each other. Most expected something like a reduction in the mats needed for damask, because it already requires the most of a single mat than any other ascended piece. But nope, instead they gave us this bull.

But hey, the prices are closer now last I checked!
