Unsorted new information
Wow, what’s the point in these specializations if there’s only one per profession? It will probably be just a mandatory thing to further progress your character. I am a bit angry about that because it seems like there isn’t big of a choice right here. Sure, you could not “specialize” at all, but will there be an incentive to not do it? I do realize that this will be a framework for future updates and additions but I don’t care about the games technology but about the explicit features that get shipped with it. Why would I buy something that says “delivery in the future”? I’m not Anets investor. I’m their customer. Sorry for coming up with this kittenstorm but that just made me really angry.

Interesting on the precursors. What if someone wants to make more than one of the same Legendary for some reason? Will the new system allow that?

It definitely sounds like it’s one per class to begin with and they’ll use that format to give players new skills and utilities via the specialisation system instead of randomly throwing new skills in. So in time they’ll add new specialisations so players get more skills and traits.
Via that article linked : “Each of the professions will be getting one of these Specializations and this also is a framework that we’ll use to grow the professions in the future. This will be the way we add more skills, traits, and abilities to the game moving forward. That’s how we’re growing our existing professions.”

Not necessarily, as they have the ability to both change, give and take away aspects of the base profession freely when you specialize. Nothing says they all have to be additions just differences.
So a Ranger might want to stay a Ranger for example (imagine f.ex. one entire trait line being different between the base profession and its specialization). Or a Druid loosing access to all of ranges traditional Trap utilities and having them replaced by a set with a more druid like slant, or even an entire new classification of skills.
They have free rein to suffle traits of the base profession just as much as they do to add to them. Colin already stated that trait acquisition would be reworked again in HoT.
This is my understanding, but specializations sound like a horizontal choice whereas masteries are the vertical path.
MMORPG: To clarify, it’s one precursor collection… per character? Per account?
CJ: All collections are account-based, so there’s one collection per precursor per account

I know it’s early and we don’t have all the info, but when the interviewer compared the new mastery system to a “gear check” and that idea wasn’t shot down in the response, that gets me a little worried.

I’d imagine precursors will still be a chance from the mystic forge and random drops.
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA

Why do you need 2 while we have wardrobe?
O, to get the 2 told legendary title…..
Oh, I don’t even need one. At least I’ve not yet bothered getting the bits and pieces for one, much as I like Bifrost and Juggernaut. But some might like to have the full stat swap ability on double Incinerators, for instance.

It is technically a gear check because if you don’t have glide but the content requires it, what do you think will happen?
But that is no different from any expansion having content that locks out people without expansion. Which is technically also a gear and skill check since you wont.
The point being the nature of a paid expac demands players who don’t want to buy it, to be behind those who buy it.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
I hope this means we can expect more specializations in the future, at the very least I imagine that each expansion will add more specializations, but I hope they add them as they develop them, just periodically as content patches.
Also I’m really hoping switching between specializations will be easy. I don’t necessarily want it to be just a re-spec button, but I wouldn’t mind being able to start my Druid over as a skin-changer or something from ‘level zero’.
One collection per Precursor per account? I can get behind that.
Several interviews have stated that each profession is only getting one Specialisation with HoT, but more may be introduced in the future. (CJ hinted that further PC improvement is likely to be via Masteries and Specialisations.)

The classes have far too few skills as-is for them to start making future skills mutually exclusive AND further tied to weapon choice.
And many of them are already heavily tied to traits. They’re making a hell of a mess.

A gear check is character bound (since each character must have the right armour/infusion to access the content). These masteries are account bound.
At least it’s a progress.

If think you nailed it right. I guess these CDIs were useful after all.
