I’ve two characters with more than 90 unspent hero points. And I can’t spent them anymore since both of them have even specialization path completed.
In the meantime I’m working to build the Sunrise and I had to thrown away 90 books to collect Spirit Shards.
IMHO it’s a nonsense. It should be far better if we could convert useless unspent hero points instead of wasting tons of book, shouldn’kitten

Actually you’ll probably appreciate those hero points later when more elite specializations come out.

Kind of. Probably new elites will need 2500 hero points to max, and hero challenges in eventual new zones will award 100 points each

If I could give you my Spirit Shards, I would. I have almost 6000 Spirit Shards in my wallet, getting more every day, and have almost nothing to spend them on except for the rare T6 mat upgrade.

There are more hero points than ways to spend them so that you have the option to skip some and still finish your spec, and to reward completionists with a headstart on future specs.

They’re not going to let you spend HPs on things other than skills/specs because they’re designed as a finite resource, thile spirit shards are an infinite resource.

You will never run out of ways to generate shards, but you will always run out of ways to generate HPs.

Allowing you to spend those 90 HPs could have dire consequnces if they decided to add a new spec in the LS or something that required five of them plus the new ones in the new map to complete. Or, even worse, giving you the option and then having you realize you spent all your HPs on shards and have no way to level another spec, or no options in how you wish to level it.

Despite the wording, the OP’s concern has nothing (directly) to do with hero points — like a lot of people, they ran out of spirit shards and are in a rush to get more.

Spoiler alert: there’s no instantaneous way to get the ton one needs for forging legendaries or whatever. However, there are plenty of mid-term strategies to grow your shard count, any of which are faster than waiting for ANet to change anything in the game.

Hero points are a finite resource now. You get a certain amount from levelling, a certain amount from hero point challenges, and that’s it.

Allowing them to be converted so something else would be a terrible idea. Even if they keep adding new hero points every time they add a new elite spec, it’d still be completely possible for players to permanently lock themselves out of elite specs by spending their hero points on spirit shards or whatever else you could convert them to prior to getting their elite specs. Unlikely, perhaps, but still possible.

Good point — I completely forgot about that.

Spirit shards to get Bloodstone shard, spirit shards + Obi to forge clovers…..base amount of Obi needed to make the legendary. Start (if you haven’t already) looking at ways to gather Obi, because that IMO is far more tedious and has fewer ways to gain than spirit shards.

There are a lot more ways to get obsidian shards now. Mystic Coins would be a more likely bottleneck but you can buy those on the TP so any way to get gold is a valid way to get coins.

Obsidian shards are much easier to get than they used to be. They can be bought with HoT currencies and with bandit crests in SW. SW chest farm gets you both obsidian shards and spirit shards at the same time. They can also be bought with fractal relics and fractals also give karma which can be used to buy more obsidian shards. Fractal relics can also be used to buy spirit shards. Clovers and Obsidian Shards are also obtainable through WvW/sPvP reward tracks.
