Guild Wars 2

So; since the finale of LS2, we’ve had this week-long Dragon Ball with mf bonus and Rams/envelopes; and some mini feature pack with camera angle ++ is coming (pending last-minute testing & QA).

But what else is happening in the live game? I’m certainly not feeling that the GW2: HoT hype is enough until release – a release which sounds like it’s not coming until late August at the earliest (to coincide with the 3rd anniversary).

Closed beta? Fine, if you get selected from the pool of entries, but still, testing new content that won’t matter until it gets released. Don’t want to spoil story content, etc. either until it really matters and expansion goes live. So, please… no thanks.

Open beta? Didn’t get the early (closed beta) access to test it, and sure as heck don’t want to test it now.

So… what do we get in the Live game between now and the expansion?

It’s really wearing my patience thin already; I need content in the game that I enjoy, not just watching Twitch shows and reading out-of-game articles about something coming in 5 months give or take.

We’re going to get a camera change soon, probably along with a couple of other things.

I’m aware of the upcoming patch which brings some camera adjustments, stability changes and the WvW map removed from map completion. All good changes on paper, but to me as a veteran… what am I to do between Lunar New Year and HoT launch?

Make gw2 machinima with new camera perspectives??

Whether it’s SAB or some other content patch, heck at this point I’d even take another PvP or WvW tournament, but the live game is going dry and the expansion is months away…

Is no one else concerned about there not being any new content for the live game we’re all playing?

We’re basically just sat here doing the same over and over; last episode dropped mid January; it’s been 2 months without anything except a rehashed Dragon Ball event. And if GW2:HoT isn’t dropping until after summer; that’s another 4-5 months…

It’s all good with hindsight etc, but I feel Anet should’ve kept up with LS2 content if nothing else and then dropped the final episode when they were sure about when HoT would release, so that the wait was max 2 months.

There’s plenty of things to do in-game, no need to panic just because the flow of free updates is slowing down a bit and the contents of the updates are not exactly what you want.

if you’re absolutely, 100% done with everything currently in the game: awesome, take a break and go play something else.

There won’t be any new living story until the expansion happens. What there will be is feature patches and various event/holidays going on.

They could have most likely could have fit a 4-6 week WvW tourney, and another whole season of LS (~12-16 weeks), ~4 weeks of SAB, or maybe a festival or two, when they first announced it, as we had ~7-8 months of time to fill.

I agree I do want something else new to keep me busy. Right now I’ve just been focusing on PvP to unlock all the dungeon skins, and praying to mystic forge gods to give me zap so I can finally finish Bolt (rather not wait ~5 months for the hunt, which for all we know will be just as annoying/time consuming). Also, trying to guess which achievements may be used to unlock Mastery points in HoT, but all of that has already gotten a bit boring after ~8-10 weeks.

And my hype has pretty much worn out, so unless I get into the beta, I don’t know how excited I can be after the 5 min it takes to read a new blog post week after week. The main thing left I’m curious about is guild halls, and I bet they’re saving that for last. The specs could be cool, but unless the War one is awesome I can’t seem my standard build changing.

I miss the LS updates. Also I really want them to bring back Dragon Bash (and an item to eat dragonite ore).

most likely we’ll get festival/holiday stuff from days past – perhaps letting out SAB for a bit or allow access to the Crown Pavilion Arena again. and as others have stated, perhaps a wvw tournament or stuff.

So… it’s been another month; any chance of us getting a new update on the live game? Something to do?

“Rebuilding Lion’s Arch” event?

For a company of 300+ people, leaving the live game in such a draught while you expect everyone to wait 6 months or more for an xpac to launch, do you consider that healthy?

And to those about to say; “there’s plenty of stuff to do in game” – yes, lots of old content to play over and over and over and over and grind your heart out. But do you really want a stale game for another 3-6 months (because we can only assume as much since we have absolutely no official news or indication of release date)?

I’ll try again now that maybe everyone is done farming SW/DT for beta portal drops.

Is anything going to happen in GW2 anytime soon?

It’s been a while now… no one is asking for nothing actually “new”, but re-rolling some seasonal content would be nice. People are repeating vanilla content to death by now.

Apart from soloable Victory or Death, there’s little in the way of new content. This game has done and redone it’s game mechanics so many times by now; all these feature packs setting things right that didn’t work the first time around.

However, those aside, I’m talking playable content. Even gw1 had more to do for its 10th anniversary just these last two weeks than gw2 in the past 2 months. Anet’s own old, discontinued/automated game!

I know we’re in for an xpac but noone knows when, and tournaments are only formats of existing content…

Eh, they added a few quests (that were basically doing stuff that have been available for almost 10 years) and some new items (which were mainly either re-skins or items that were also slated for release in GW2).

Which is basically what we have been getting here as well.

I am in the exact same situation as you, I was expecting HoT to drop in Late June/Early July so that we could play it over the summer, but as time passes and we still have no word on a release window, it looks like they are aiming for late August, now if that is the case A-net HAS to do something to keep players interested in the live game, yeah yeah the camera changes and stability changes are coming, but lets face it those are just balance changes or minor improvements to the game. We need something content wise, either SAB needs to return with alot more levels, or we need some event to happen to bring us all back, because right now, I haven’t logged in and actually played for a few weeks

Now to address some counter points: No I don’t consider beta events to count since the PvE ones are closed beta and are very difficult to get into, not to mention very limited as far as to what people that got in can actually do, and the WvW ones are again, likely to have a time limit associated with them. Not to mention players like me who don’t WvW have no interest in them.

Another counter point some might say is “Well we have the new specializations system coming into the game” again the base changes to traits are just UI tweaks and balancing, and as far as I know Elite specializations are NOT dropping before HoT, if I’m wrong about that please tell me. Not to mention yeah we know this update is coming before HoT, but “Before HoT” doesn’t tell us anything considering we still don’t know when HoT is supposed to be coming, for all we know they could drop the new specialization update 1 week before HoT comes out. sigh Come on A-net you need to do one of two things, announce a release date for late June/Early July, which is highly unlikely considering how dodgy you’ve been about a release date, or release some major content update to keep the player base interested

I don’t consider items acquirable through content or ingame store lottery the same, and I doubt many people do.

Well my GW2 activity has dropped to log-in, say hello in guild chat, and log out – most days. Sometimes I can get myself to do a dungeon, or play a PvP match. Sometimes I don’t even bother to log-in.

Playing other things in my free time.

Which is okay I guess, I can return anytime. The problem is, my will to return is dropping daily. I never doubted I will buy HoT at first, now I am at a point where it’s a “meh, do I even want to return?” decision.

They originally said that normal game updates would continue… but April came and went without even a hint of a feature patch. Now May is half over and still no word on the next feature patch. I mean they’ve been working on 500 jewelcrafting for 2 years now, they could at least give us that.

Well, they said there wouldn’t be more story content because it couldn’t technically progress since HoT picks up immediately after the cut-scene with Pact assault crashing to bits.
But that shouldn’t bar them from dropping game updates with festivals, SAB, an event to help rebuild Lion’s Arch… imagine if we could have an update where people help out rebuilding LA and you gradually see it coming to life over a few months. Stuff to do and things to see while the (endless) waiting time for HoT could pass less noticeably.
