1. Complaints on elite specialization being locked and “…requires too much effort” is a valid complaint, because when you compare it to other specializations, which cost no more than 60, it cost way too much and can be considered unfair and grindy. Anet really need to address this issue as I personally believe if they scale down the cost to 60, most people will be satisfied

2. This is funny because there are people complaining there are “…too many vets all over the map..” and they die constantly, try to change your build (stop using zerker) and change up your specialization and trust me you will survive longer. Combat in HoT is about who survive longer, not who kills who faster. Then there are people complaining all the zones are “..huge but empty zones with minimal content..”, I personally believe these people managed to glitch out all the mobs and events that appears every 5 seconds when you try to move

3. “Masteries are only there for grind and personal stories shouldn’t need these to continue.”
We have to compare this to the core game personal story which is gated every 10 levels. You only need to unlock each basic masteries to continue the personal story (for now at least). This actually seems fair when compared to the core game personal story.

I’m addressing all these complaints based on the core game and I personally believe is as unbiased as possible

Yeah, everyone’s entitled to feel how they want to feel about the changes.

I just wish they’d find constructive (and respectful) ways of communicating that.

This is all that bothers me so far (haven’t had the impetus to log in today so haven’t really tried out the new bl map, hopefully it wont suck). Elite specs need drastically scaled down to make them achievable in reasonable time frames – especially for those with many alts.

Hell they’re elite, make it 120 pts and i, and most fellow wvw’ers, would prolly be happy – especially if we could trade in the 1000’s of useless wxp pts we have lying around that cant be used and for some reason weren’t converted to something useful….

There is just 1 thing I dont fully agree with…

1. It may be true that it requires too much effort I dont know its too early to say. But if thats the case its not because of the points required… yes old traitlines could be unlocked by 60, but anet could never do that for masteries or most people would have unlocked them fully immediately. 400 may seem a lot, but keep in mind doing just skill challenges required 60 skill challenges to fully unlock a trait. in HoT skill challenges give 10 points each not 1 thus it requires just 40 to of them to fully unlock an elite specialization. However unlike core you need masteries to do all skill challenges so thats where you may be right… that being said masteries is a one time thing so its hard to judge.

At stage 14, you need Itzel 4, right out of the bat.

As in it pretty much goes 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 4. That is WAY too much for story grind.

That’s actually isn’t a lot compared to levelling from level1-80 in the core story

Yes it is.

I’ve been at it about 12 hours playing the game without hardcore grinding. (both long sessions though) and I have pipped HALF WAY to level 3 itzel mastery (already had level 1 from before the 12 hour start).

By this point I would have easily hit 50-60 without tomes or boosts of any sort.

It is simply too much to gate a story behind.

You have to do the math. From level60 – level70 total exp is much more than from mastery 2-3 in terms of number wise…Everything else is opinion oriented.

Getting more and more bored and kittened off with the chain-farming I’m doing just to get anywhere. Frankly, even to earn some of the masteries I wouldn’t bother doing the majority of these events for – I just want to play the kitten story, bit of fracs.

I haven’t gotten very far into the story at all since I’ve been trying to farm HP for the past 9 hours (been busy IRL so haven’t been able to play much before today) and I don’t like the sound of that at all, I also would rather just play the story in one go rather than have it artificially broken up.

The only issue I have is the Elite unlock, it really should be that high. I’m 110 HP in from a little story game play and a lot of HP farming and it’s taken me 9 hours. If it keeps going as is it’ll take me 30 more just for the first Elite specialisation, not counting any excursions to try the halloween stuff. Then I have several…several other characters that I want the Elites on and I’m way too tired for that train of thought.

Please refrain from rudeness.

Total exp is not really the main issue here. It is the METHOD of exp gaining. It is making you grind events that nudge it forward. In core GW2 exp is thrown at you, in HoT the amount of ways to earn exp is scarce, you are reduced to meta event farming for story progression. Simply add that to the total exp from mastery 2-3 itzel (1.7mil) equaling leveling to 1-61 (1.7mil) and extremely low exp gains in events (story wise it is asking you do go from level 1 itzel to level 4 itzel, not 2-3 btw).

Let’s throw into the mix the basic event exp for gold rating is 19k-ish

For level 2-3 itzel I would have to do 90 events. But remember, I am leveling from 1 – 4 for a new story chapter, so that would make it exp wise; 1 million + 1.7million + 2.5 million = 5.2 million (the numbers I use are rounded DOWN http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Heart_of_Maguuma_mastery_track#Itzel_Lore)

5.2 million / 19k Means I will have to do 273 events before I can continue the personal story.

You are talking to someone who has leveled every class from 1-80 (not including rev), I have a lot of experience and a good feel for slow or fast progression in general also. Leveling your mastery to the first level for the story felt fine, not too pushy and enough to make me explore without too much of a grind at all.

So all in all tell me, is 273 events for 1 story chapter NOT grinding?

Looks like the Itzel mastery requirement for one of the chapters is being removed.

I disagree on this point, I was expecting it to be way more than 60 HP points just based on what Anet said numerous times since the announcement of the Xpac back at PaxSouth. Knowing full well that we would have to spend HP points to even unlock the Elite Spec I began saving/building up SP/HP points on almost all of my characters so that they would average between 190 – 210 HP at launch of HoT. I know people think that 400 HP is a lot, but that is to unlock the entire Elite Spec including skins, it does however take more than 200 to unlock all of the skills/traits…the middle ground would be to leave the cost of the weapon usage, skills and traits as is, but eliminate the HP us in unlocking the weapon/armor skins, IMO.
