Veteran entitlement mentality.
A better question is why do people like OP keep throwing around words like “entitlement” ? Have you bothered to read past 10% of the complaints ? It is a matter of principle, it is the fact that we should be able to trust the company that is asking for our hard earned dollars. I see no reason to give Anet a shred of trust at this point. Ya a character slot would be nice, you know what would be even better ? If they hadn’t scammed thousands of customers new and old with their FAQ’s.
For the record those FAQ’s have been up for months so the whole “they will reimburse people that bought it in the last 30 days” is not good enough. They spent their time, some spent money on gems, they have progressed in game. All of that has value to each individual, they shouldn’t lose it all for a BS refund because Anet consciously scammed them.
It wasn’t an accident, I used to think maybe it was a mistake but the more I have thought about it, someone there knew it was wrong. If they truly couldn’t see the problem with their little stunt then they should close the doors because they have no business running a company.
The silence ontop of it proves to me they know they are in the wrong and are trying to figure out how to BS their way out of it.
so unless they agree with you, they are whining ? you don’t see that as oppressive behavior ?
No, theres a difference of whining and disagreement. I disagree with some people that the expansion isnt worth $50, they however arent asking for free stuff and whining how someone else is getting something and they feel like they are getting the short end of the stick even though they had access to sooooo much more than any new player would even know they could of had access too. Its like the vets have forgotten what they had access too and was able to experience and then they have the kittening nerve to ask for even more when all that new players are getting is the core game and not even what everyone who has been playing for 3 years has access too?
so you just want people to stop getting upset, and just don’t support the company ?
how is that good for anet ?
you will face a small caveat with me in debate, i care about the company.

We are asking for the same thing new players get. HoT + a copy of the core game.
Which, as I’ve said before, does have value even if you already own the game.
Equal treatment. Fairness. That’s what I ask for.
~Sincerely, Scissors
You just said you wanted to be treated the same/get the same. That’s all. And THAT you can get, new acc incl. exp.
That is what newcomers get. They don’t get an existing Acc and then the Exp…You said the exactly same thing as me and saying I’m wrong. That is quite illogical for me. New player gets new acc, new gw2 new hot. You can too. That is all.
True is, it isn’t preferred and I can understand that.
Though you ‘demand’ or ‘wish’ to get something similar, but not the same. You want something else as a bonus, promotion, because you are a veteran, no?
I’ll explain it easier, Rai:
You have a [Banana] since two years ago. Anet comes and offers a bundle that contains an [Apple] and a [Banana] for same price that you bought your old [Banana]. You want the [Apple], but you can’t buy it without the [Banana], so you tell “good, in this case, I want the full pack”. Anet replies then: “if you already had a [Banana], you only get the [Apple]. You’ll have to save the old [Banana] and grab the new [Banana] since the [Apple] is bound”.
Now tell me, Rai: only ‘cos you already had a [Banana] since two years ago, you have less right to have a new [Banana] ’cos it’s included in the bundle? Or if you don’t get the [Banana], you’d not ask for something with equal value as compensation for this loss in the purchase?

You didnt read my post did you? Read it because I said the only people who should be kittened are the people who bought the core game recently. The exact people you are talking about. My post however is about the vets that think they are entitled to get free stuff because they have been playing for 3 years.
Their silence could mean they are looking into a way to make those people happy that recently bought the core game and feel like they got ripped off. You know kitten well if they say “we are looking into a solution” people would find something to lash out at them with. Your not working fast enough, or that isnt good enough, or this or that.
I don’t particularly agree with all the arguments people are making against including the core game free with HoT. But its not entitlement. People love to throw around that word but don’t even know what it means. It immediately devalues your argument. So I don’t agree with the OP.
There are a number of things going on at once. One is people weren’t expecting a 50 dollar price point. Two is people were expecting a character slot. But they got a 50 dollar price and no character slot.
Three is that Anet was selling the core game up until the announcement and stating that the core game is required to play HoT.
I think the reason that the inclusion of the core game is irking people so much is that it makes you feel like you’re getting gypped.
- It’s why people hate car shopping (or mattress shopping, or anything where the price is negotiable or not certain). Because no matter what the end result of the transaction, you feel like you got screwed.
- It’s why people hate the new method of apartment pricing in some places – market price. The price fluctuates daily. So you know that someone else is living in the same apartment but got a better deal. So no matter what price you get it at, you feel like you got screwed.
There’s a very simple way Anet could have prevented this. They could have even kept the $50 price. But included in the deal was the core game for new players or a character slot for linking it to an existing account. Everyone’s happy.
(Well you’re happy except if you bought the core game since the HoT announcement thinking it would be required for HoT. I think Anet should so something for anyone who bought the game for full price since the expansion announcement. That part was pretty sleazy.).
We are asking for the same thing new players get. HoT + a copy of the core game.

…. honestly: you can get the same: A BRAND NEW Acc including Base Game AND Expansion…
THAT is exactly what newcomers get xD
You want: The Expansion for your existing Account AND and additional new Account with just GW2 Base Game.
That’s is different.
If you want a similar Value, a similar promotional gift as newcomers get… well that I would understand. That would really be nice, I wouldn’t complain.
alas… most promotional things even those which don’t have a time limit don’t let you choose what you want as a gift/gift possibility

You arent paying for the same thing again. The expansion itself is $50.
“You didn’t pay for LS!”
Well, who did? Who would?
If we compare living story to other games, it amounts to something like , IDK, a quest chain? Ok, maybe many quest chain.
Thing is, quest chain are included usually in the base product. It’s just that GW2 had a different approach with hearts and so on.
But it also lacked other things, living story was meant to replace things as raid, raid tiers, and raid tiers, which also include story progression-
Example: Wrath of the Lich King did costs +/- as HoT, but it had 4 raid tiers (Naxx, Ulduar, ToCr, ICC) , and with each tier they added new quests, thing to do, and continued the quest chain for the legendary axe, Shadowmourne. Yeah, WoW had a subscription fee, but what I mean is that GW2 didn’t use the subscription model not out of generosity, but because they didn’t want to compete on a business model that required a steady output of PvE and PvP content.

But I admit it sucks that the offer is not the best for me. I can decide between getting a new banana and apple… and save my old banana too, but I can only make one banana apple smoothie.
And I would prefer my ripened Banana for that, but wouldn’t get an additional banana for it. Such is the nature of promotional gifts.

this fascinates me beyond the game actually, this is the same argument Nestle uses to imply that water isn’t a human right. water is not an “entitlement” and should be purchased.
it concerns me that gaming companies are slowly training their audience to this mentality.
Except you are getting what you paid for. Your paying for HoT, so your getting HoT.

What do you need another fork for? And no, just look at what it says “if you dont have a fork one will be provided for you.” Its like if you dont have a lawyer one will be provided for you, if you already have one then you dont need me to supply you with one.
My post however is about the vets that think they are entitled to get free stuff because they have been playing for 3 years.
So, a post about hypothetical people you have not proved even exist? Fine, go on, but you are aiming your arguments at noone then, because people that you argue against either do not exist at all, or are some individual exceptions. It has no bearing at all on the current arguments on the forums.
What do you need another fork for?
That’s for him, not for seller, to decide.
Except you are getting what you paid for. Your paying for HoT, so your getting HoT.
And again i will ask – do you really believe that noone is paying for the core game that is included in this bundle?

It is different: Newcomer gets one account, you would have two at the end ^^
But still you want the same value and as Accounts theirself hold no direct value, I can understand that you would like similar value.
Though you still do not want the exact same, that’s all. Nothing wrong with that I think. That is valid opinion and why not try to get it with saying that out loud?
I never reprimanded that you want same value… I just say that you used the wrong words here, as you can get the exact same: New Acc/New GW2/New HOT
though for us it is of lesser value, there is nothing to argue about that. You are right and I think it is ok to ask/say: for that money I want something of equal value as everyone, not the same, but same value, like and additional GW2 base Acc, or something else.
Nothing wrong there. Honestly, just pointing out the ‘wrong’ use of words.
Except you are getting what you paid for. Your paying for HoT, so your getting HoT.
yes, and others are paying the same price, and getting more than me, just because i happen to have the game already
real fair

lol, this topic is so big beyond just the basic price tag, it should be coined #hotgate heh!!
the idea that people think people should not feel entitled to get what they pay for is seriously fascinating. forget the game, i want to understand how people have come to accept this, it may help understand why the world is such a mess today.

Never said I don’t get it… just that saying: I want the same! (New Acc/New GW2/New HOT)
Is not the same as saying: I want the same value (my acc/new HOT and new ACC/GW2) AS a new ACC/GW2/HoT is not of the same value to us, as for a newcomer because we would be ripped of our time invested.
I agree there, I really would like to get a promotional gift I could use… still I prepurchase because money/value option is fine for me. That’s all. Don’t think it is wrong to voice the opinion to want same value (not same thing).
We noticed our playerbase is concerningly white-dominated. With the launch of our new expansion, Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we figured this is the proper time to remedy that.
Our expansion is priced at $50. However, if you a part of an ethnic minority, you will also get a complimentary gift: the award-winning Guild Wars 2 core game. That’s right, 2 games for the price of one for all PoC out there. Because, a diverse community is a happy community.
For those out there that might raise the topic of discrimination, don’t be hatuurs, and check your privileges.
you should have switched the races, some people might get upset now :P
but guess what- that’s exactly what’s happening, they arbitrarily pick a group of users and give them a bonus, while the others “get what they pay for”
so apparently my money is not worth as much, strange, other companies will be happy to have it
lol, this topic is so big beyond just the basic price tag, it should be coined #hotgate heh!!

Alright, lets all get on the same page then. What do you think you should be getting when you buy HoT?
Now tell this to Jongi, who still keeps same arguments without getting the point… maybe ‘cos he doesn’t want.
Regarding the often used argument: Arenanet should give us a free character slot because of the Revenant…
Yes, it’s tough having to pay for another character slot if you want to play the Revenant and have already used up all your exisisting slots… but the fact that there is a new profession coming and the fact that you already used up all existing slots are two separate events that are in no way connected with eachother.
Just because there’s a new profession doesn’t automatically make you eligible for a free character slot. Yes, you have to delete an already existing character or buy a new one for $10. That’s just how it is. And the new players don’t get any free character slots either. They get the same amount than everyone else the only difference being that they haven’t filled those slots yet but you can hardly blame them for that.
Does that mean it would be better if Arenanet gave everyone a free character slot? Yes, of course if would.
Does that mean they have to or “owe” it to you? No, they don’t.

@Jongi – the current deal is a Hot expansion AND a free core account. I’d be happy with expanding my core account and being able to gift the extra core account or even set up a 2nd core account anet is offering for free ( i like making asura characters of every class ). is that bad ?

Buy some character slot upgrades? Use gold for it, you know play the game if they dont want to dish out real life money.
There no need to read past this “Why exactly do some of the veteran players think ANet owes you anything? I see a lot of vet players understand that nothing is owed to them, but the vocal majority of vets here on the forums think something is owed to them”.
Its has been explained NUMEROUS times, take the time to read a few of the thousands of posts spread all over the internet before asking a question that has been asked several times over. There are many problems aside from them scamming people, you would know this if you did some research. Stop focusing on the 1 part that people feel jipped, you know what they are absolutely 100% entitled to ? Their opinion.
Jongi, really I can’t help thinking you just are trolling ‘cos you don’t stop repeating same arguments again and again. lol
@Jongi – the current deal is a Hot expansion AND a free core account. I’d be happy with expanding my core account and being able to gift the extra core account or even set up a 2nd core account anet is offering for free ( i like making asura characters of every class ). is that bad ?
Its the HoT expansion and a free core game to new players. You can make all the asura characters you want without needing a new account, just buy character slots with gold, easy.
So now Jongi’s argument is “lose ALL of your progress and make a new account”. You really can’t argue with these drones, they refuse to understand.
lol, this topic is so big beyond just the basic price tag, it should be coined #hotgate heh!!
the idea that people think people should not feel entitled to get what they pay for is seriously fascinating. forget the game, i want to understand how people have come to accept this, it may help understand why the world is such a mess today.
Alright, lets all get on the same page then. What do you think you should be getting when you buy HoT?
separate cd-keys for HoT and the ‘free’ gw2 would be nice
How about a list? If you want that just make a new account and buy HoT, you get exactly what your asking for.
if you buy Hot you get one key that you can use to upgrade an account, or to create an account with HoT + new gw2. I would like to upgrade my existing account and use the ‘free’ account to play EU pvp. currently I can’t.
currently a Boyfriend main :P

OMG, I can’t believe what I read from Jongi. I’ll come back tomorrow and read this was just a joke, right?

What do you expect me to do when people keep repeating the same things over and over again? Its called staying on topic. Do you expect me to talk about pink unicorns and gumdrop enemies or something?
@ Jongi, As a vet,I could use that second account actually. Personnaly I’m not filled on chars slots, so I can manage without one, but I know many ppl that filled all their slots long ago, what about them?
Buy some character slot upgrades? Use gold for it, you know play the game if they dont want to dish out real life money.
I have not read one point on this thread from you that holds any water at all, not one.
The rev is a selling point for the game, there for you should not have to potentially spend more money to play one.

Except you are getting what you paid for. Your paying for HoT, so your getting HoT.
Wrong, you are paying for HoT + GW2.

No, you’re paying for HoT. The core game is free for new players which shouldn’t concern you.

That really isnt a list of issues. The issue you have could be something as easy as linking the regions together where you can choose where you want to play. You want to play on EU you just open up a slider say you want to play on EU and wala.
Its not a matter of entitlement…. Its a matter of being deceitful to your fans and playerbase…. especially those who continue to support the game.
There is no expansion for Guild Wars 2, yet.
The “betas” we have experienced are nothing more than the next episode of the living story.
This preorder nonsense is to fund production of the expansion that hasn’t even come into existence.
Anet needs resources to actually make this expansion… and they want you to pay for what is “behind the curtain” when there isn’t even anything behind the curtain yet besides a mockup.
They need money to even put something behind the curtain…. hence the preorder with barely any information and little details.
Buying a HoT preorder is basically the same as funding a kickstarter to make the expansion happen.
Why not be up front about what they are doing?
They would rather lie to our faces about it so they can get more money.
Its not hypothetical, Ive been reading the forums for days now and I have seen a lot of it going on.
Yet when asked you failed to point even one example of what you were talking about.
And i see you have avoided my (so often repeated) question about the value of core game in the bundle again. Is it because you really _don’t believe your own arguments?
