Given this quote from the Masteries article:

“Mastery points are awarded for completing various pieces of game content. Things like completing a chapter in your personal story…”

Should I wait to do the personal story on my alts until HOT drops? I was going to catch everybody up over the next few weeks, but then realized that putting off my personal stories might be an easy way to gather mastery points quickly… Since I have 7 alts who haven’t done the story, at 7 or 8 chapters in Old Tyria + all the LS2 stuff per character, that’s over a hundred mastery points right off the bat I can plow through!

Does it work like that?

When HoT launches there will be some retroactive mastery points. So some people who have completed the personal story will automatically get all of those mastery points. This means you will get your points regardless of if you do your personal story now or once HoT launches. I suggest you work on it now so you can have the points for launch

and its account bound so if you have 1 char or 64 chars who done the personal story you get the same points.

anything that can be retroactively given to you (like personal story and world completion) will be given to you.

All this said, I’d venture to guess that it would only apply to future personal stories.

If the current personal story is to give you mastery points in the new system, then you will get the points automatically even if you have gained them before the expansion release.
