So, here’s a slightly better than baseless bit of speculation about the Warrior Elite Specialization.

Name: Marauder

Weapon: Off-Hand Torch

  • Fits with the Marauder Theme and Warrior’s physicality.
  • Gives more condi damage (though burn is already on LB)
  • Burns are good for dealing with Plant Matter

New Skill Type: Survival

  • Honestly, it’s the only type that I feel fits the warrior.
  • Thematically fits with the idea of a marauding band of warriors

Overall Trait Theme: Mobility, Burning, Evasion

  • Again, fits with the theme of a roving band of pillaging warriors

Profession Mechanic: Swap-to Off-Hand Weapon-based Bursts

  • We’ve seen the swappable burst skill in a datamined image
  • Would open up completely new, powerful burst abilities based on Warhorn, Torch, and Shield
  • Would create incentive for Marauders to dual-wield more than standard warriors, making them more distinct

Is it a perfect idea? Probably not, but I can see some great possibilities. Frankly, I would love to see the torch be main hand, but that would require more development work on Anet’s part.

I’d be interested to see other people’s ideas, as well.

Well elites seem to be themed around bringing skills from another class and ranger has already been paired (with guardians) so I don’t think warriors are getting survival skills.

I think warrior are more likely to get something reminiscent of the classic “WaMo” warrior from Guild Wars 1 so they’ll probably get paired with mesmers and get mantras, or guardians and get meditations. Such an elite specialization would probably buff warrior sustain and support, and given that the most popular suggestion for bunker warriors is to reroll guardian (lol) I think it would complete the class nicely. A lot of classes are getting access to new buffs so I’d also expect warriors gain access to either protection or taunt.

Would probably be called something like “Knight” or “Champion” although Arenanet could always go “high concept” for the name. Guild Wars class names are pretty hard to guess. Probably not “Paragon” though because it would take the spear.

For the rest I think you’re correct. Warriors are probably getting torch and an off-hand burst. Dagger or pistol would be boring and completely “un-warrior.” I mean do warrior players actually want to be pirates or swashbucklers? That would be dragonhunter 2.0.

If we get off-hand burst I expect 2h weapons to just get a 2nd burst to be balanced with 1h+shield or dual-wield.

Survival skills lack a theme. They’re just 4 random skills they wanted Ranger to have but that didn’t fit into other categories. Therefore I doubt Warrior is getting those.

I think daggers and pistols fit Warrior completely. Warriors don’t discriminate as far as weapons go. Plus the elite spec is supposed to feel different.

We may be even getting Monks with Mantras or Spellblades with who knows what.

It’s by far the most braindead and boring class of the game. At least do something fun with it.

For utilities, the one that seems the most plausible is gadgets. It ties in with the whole Charr thing after all.

In this case, we could very well see pistol in the main hand (NPC Lord in Red Rock Bastion)

But the datamined picture for Berserker is also the same picture from the Norn Race Intro in which it shows a Norn transforming.

Could that possibly be a hint as some kind of Berserker Transformation?
Some people say its a Norn only thing due to Racials.

But people forget that Racials are meant to be weaker versions of class skills. Check out Slyvari Racials and compare them to Ranger Skills. They are pretty much the same except weaker. So that shows that Racials and Class skills can coexist while being same in concept.

Also to note more evidence behind this theory, is how each Elite Specialization weapon skin is themed in some way after the Elite Specialization it belongs to.

Well the Warrior Torch skin was datamined and its skin seem to have Animal Heads on it, and themed in some way after Animals.
Further to support the theory of Berserker Animalistic transformations.

That could actually be real fun to play, seeing how popular Rampage is currently with the Warrior class. So let’s see how Transformations can make the class a whole new level of fun.

I keep seeing off-hand pistol for Warrior. Does it make any sense at all that if Warriors get off-hand pistol that they wouldn’t also get main-hand as well? I mean that would be a huge slap in the face for Warriors (Thief can use ’em that way, why not Warrior?).

For Mesmers, it kind of makes sense since the off-hand pistol does a whole lot of non-physical/illusionary stuff.

Warriors have needed a 600-900 main-hand range option since original Beta feedback. If it’s off-hand Torch, lol. Like anything is wrong with off-hand Sword for everything a condition Warrior would need.

My speculation is that the Berserker Elite Specialization (Let’s presume the datamined name is correct) gives us no new weapon but a F2 skill that like “Rampage” – once u activated it, u’ll have new 1-5 skills or 6-0 skills just like the REV.

Would be awesome if it was hand-to-hand combat, but that would count as a new weapon most likely.

Just to put it out there; saying warriors get offhand because Rytlock does isn’t all too solid because;
a) He’s an NPC, therefore has different skills/values anyway.
b) He’s Charr, so therefore would have a pistol regardless of class (like the racial skill).
c) He’s a Revenant now.
d) They don’t base specializations off what NPC’s can do.

Also, hand to hand wont work because;
a) that’s an elite skill
b) it would mean the warrior gets no weapon stats
c) theres already unarmed attacks as utility skills

Given the leaks, my prediction would be this:

F2 skill: Berserk. Gain a massive buff but burns adrenaline while it’s on. When the berserker runs out of adrenaline, he loses Berserk. I know it’s a bit similar to Death Shroud, but Anet said we’d get a new way to spend adrenaline, and I don’t expect the devs to be so generous to give us an off-hand burst for every weapon that fits in our off-hand. (Which would probably include a double-burst for 2-handed weapons as well.) But I would be happy to be wrong.

Weapon: Torch. It makes the most sense sense to me. (I don’t know why some people want dagger or pistol so bad, those are way out of theme for a spec called “berserker”.) I expect Torch to be massively support or defense based. I expect the skills to be themed around rallying, and I expect berserkers to gain access to ether Protection or Taunt. (Or both.)

New skill type: I really have no idea there, maybe mantras? I dunno.

It’s gonna be hard to make torch different to how ranger uses it, which is pretty basic and combat-like already.

If I had to guess, they might give it a ranged AoE and a melee cone attack

as for the skills? my guesses are either Traps, Tricks or Survival. We know for a fact they aren’t just throwing shouts on this one, thank god.

The physical tree is already brushed aside by most anyway and you don’t have to make weapon stats useless, just make whatever weapon stats you have equip act as your unarmed stats.

Could also make the unarmed set an f2 skill, all of which consume a part of your adrenaline to use. What those skills are could depend on the style of fighting you use (a striking style, a throwing style and a passive style).

Warrior offhand shield burst would be interesting if:

Channel Ability: Slam your shield for 3 seconds, Taunting up to 5 nearby foes and dealing damage per second.

Stage 1: Taunt: 1 second. X damage per second.
Stage 2: Taunt: 2 seconds. Y damage per second.
Stage 3: Taunt: 3 seconds. Z damage per second.

So you have a choice to channel fully and deal damage, or cancel early for the taunt.

i totally think its either off hand or dual focus wielding. specifically a skin that has an exposed fist. if it were me, id pair it with elemental atonement types(flame, water, air, earth) for the four skill types and then a large aoe blast finisher that combines all of them. focus it on evasion and jumping around the foe while punching the enemy. for utilities, make them arcane melee skills. the elite could be an arcane power-up. animation from the signet of rage, make it a blast finisher, damage and launch foes then taunt them. utilities could maybe be an arcane double kick, us the technology from the revenant hammer jump skill to jump at the enemy and double kick. then maybe a spinning whirlwind of arcane fists. have it interact with combo fields liek the axe 5 skill does. a third could be a bunker skill. bunker down for 3-5 seconds with a pulse heal and no damage from attacks. forth should be a leap face forward at a targeted area that is an aoe that causes cripple and weakness. heal should maybe be something like the shiro heal from the revenant where attacking heals for a bit. could be pretty sweet. any comments? sorry its not formatted all pretty and stuff.
