Hey guys!
Since we won’t be able to play the new content for the first time with the new elite specs which of your old pve builds that you have played for the past several years will you use?!
Or will you double that good ol’ progression sensing and play with a kitten traitline and then by the time you finish , you’ll be back to the same power level you were at?! Because woo progression sensing right?!
I personally don’t know yet! How about you guys?!

Did you expect to get stronger for some reason? You do realize this a horizontal progression game right? Not vertical? You won’t get stronger, you’ll just unlock more variety to expand how you play.
As for me, I’m going to play around with the elite specs regardless. I have enough to unlock half the trait line on all my toons, so might as well unlock them as I play so I can get used to them and be ready for them by the time I get them fully unlocked.
Regardless if the elite spec is good or not for a particular profession, I’m going to use them any ways just so I have some hands on experience with each one.

No unfortunately you will not be playing as a reaper straight away.

Where did I mention vertical progression? I think you should re-read.

Maybe the part where you’re talking about being at the same power level as you were before? I just assumed that you were expecting to get stronger with a comment like that.

No, 20 hero point challenges are at minimum required to completely unlock the spec, And since most likely the HP’s will be locked behind masteries (unaccessable areas) it means if you decide to play with the elite spec your first time in HOT, you will have an unfinished traitline which is less powerful than a traitline that’s already finished (one of the core traitlines)

Build for HoT content? I won’t be.
Will likely much rather stay in WvW and get ranks via a non-grind than even attempt at hero point farming in PvE.

Because Anet dissappoints. You need 400 Hero points to unlock everything. Admittedly that’s everything (armor and runes) but you won’t be able to spend your 200 from map completion to unlock reaper. It’s a bummer.
Snowywonders, I was thinking that I might play my guardian. Check this out… I was going to play Greatsword; mace/torch. I figure it’ll be new and exciting, getting to play the build I’ve used for years now, to trudge through HoT like an addict looking for his next fix of Hero Challenges. It might mean that the content I was super excited about gets tossed aside, but hey, at least I get to try out my build I’ve had for years… again!

Are you sure? I have 200 unspent hero points. 60 will unlock the elite specialization. That leaves another 140 to spend. Will it give me all the traits and cosmetic items and make me the best possible reaper there is? No. Will it allow me to play as a functioning grandsword-wielding reaper with a couple of traits and utilities to boot? Yes!
ergo:
No unfortunately you will not be playing as a reaper straight away.
FALSE information

you’ll be able to spend it towards it, but not enough to fully unlock the trait line

You keep telling yourself that, BUT, if you do manage to unlock right away there are literally thousands of WvW players that would like to know so we can demand retroactive proofs, you know because you can farm ahead of time while we can’t. Hope and pray for QQ sake that you have to grind it out or the hell that is about to be raised will be on a whole new level.

Yes you can. Nothing stops you from farming hero points on PvE maps. Since WvW already incorporates PvE -elements it shouldn’t be to “difficult” for you either.
Now stop spreading misinformation and go troll somewhere else.
That’s all.

Yes he will. If he has 100% Map on his Necro, he can get quite some Reaper Traits and Skills straight away.

I will see myself back in to tell you that most people aren’t satisfied that despite spending hours on map completion that hurray! they get to play with a half finished spec.
No, we don’t know exactly how much all of the reaper skills will cost. But if the betas were an indication, they wanted maguuma to be harder and more challenging than Tyria. Now we have people saying they want to run around with incomplete traitlines?
Could I run around with a greatsword? Yes. But I’d have to sacrifice a complete traitline for an either incomplete one (at best) or just the most basic access to the first minor talent, so that I can use a GS (at its worst). It’s frustrating that they’d encourage their player base to put in so much effort just to tell us that they’ve raised the bar and now we’ve only unlocked 1/2 of what people expected.

It’s stress free.
Though it’s insane, I am going cleric druid right away ^^; it will take forever to get through mobs but it will fun to finally play healer again as someone who’s mained a healer since they first picked up an mmo
Also dps revenant, meaning shiro/glint zerker trinkets and weapons with valkyrie armor because other wise precision is too high resting at 41% without fury and will get to 100% easy in groups.
Those are the specs I am going to running on my mains come HoT tonight!!
Ps. I realize elite specs are costly but I am not getting two of the lines with my new rev and might end up only unlocking three totals specs (including elite spec) and only shiro and glint utility at the start (assuming 60 HP for base skills and line for glint) otherwise I will be running from HP to HP on my rev when not playing my druid.
I’ll be playing as me, YAY !
I am quite jealous

I’m not going to change anything about my build for HoT. Simply the meta dps staff ele build. I’ll unlock Tempest just for the sake of character completion, but I don’t think I’ll play it after it was this bad in the beta.
I’ll also run a revenant dps shiro glinth build. Could take a while to unlock everything though. Maybe if I unlock Glinth before unlocking the specs I don’t need? We’ll see.
I already have over 200 Hero Points on my future Tempest so I will probably just kitten myself with about half of the Tempest Specialization finished and play with one of my support/condi auramancer builds I have created for her.
If needed I can always go back to one of my tried and true D/D builds even though I doubt that will be necessary. Playing a Tempest auramancer during BWE2 was extremely fun and rewarding and I’m counting down the hours to launch!

That is good to know at least.
I’m going to use whatever engie FT build I’m in the mood to perpetrate that day, until I get enough Hpoints to unlok scrapper and make a new engie FT build with extra hammer.
