What if you logged on last Friday and – with no heads up or prior announcement from Anet – the game changed as it has with the HoT expansion?

What this hypothetical illustrates is that some faction within Anet felt that the core mechanics of the game were flawed, and in need of change. I can only assume that all further expansions will build on these current changes, and that the base game will be marginalized or phased out entirely – as are the dungeons.

As someone who has played almost every single day since the head start, I disagree. I liked the game as it was. I just wanted it to expand. Not change into something that I can’t recognize.

But to be honest, I knew it was coming. It was obvious from the Living Story platform game play.

But what if it had been free?

Well other games have had patches with a similar amount of content for free.

But what if it had been free?

People would still whine about it.
